What's the latest on books, is Tom still in that situation where he's not really getting $$$ from them? (I was thinking about getting books 2&3)

(I was thinking about getting books 2&3) Get 'em from Topatoco; he gets the biggest cut from them. For reference, this is basically the case for just about any webcomic, aside from selling their books direct from their website or at a table at cons.

I messed with the levels a bit, there does seem to be some kind of pattern on top of the robot's iris pattern. Reads like a string of 0s to me.

Thats almost double what I pre-ordered it for on Amazon with free 2-day shipping. I plan on donating the difference straight to Tom when the book comes out. Unless he's getting more than 65% pure profit from TopatoCo's list price it seems like the best option to me. Oneiros fucked around with this message at 02:24 on May 31, 2013 |

It's bugged me for a while that the first and last pages of Divine share such similar patterns. I can't decide if it's implying some deep connection between her pulling off the fake scar and throwing it away and Gamma tossing away Kat's headband, or if it was just intended to be a nice mirror pattern to bookend the chapter, with no deeper meaning. Every time I go back and read that chapter I am reminded that I have almost no clue what's going on in it. It's maddening, but it's also neat to watch an author show you a whole story while telling you almost nothing about what's really happening in it. It's like watching someone do a magic trick and knowing that there's probably sleight of hand going on but you never catch it. And there's the question of who exactly Zimmy and Gamma were talking about with the 'I don't want to see her' 'She needs your help' dialogue. At first you'd assume Annie, but then at the end after that crazy vision of Kat as the machine goddess, Zimmy again says 'I told you I didn't want to see her' which makes me wonder who they were talking about needing help in the first place. And then why were Shadow, Robot, and Rey there (if they ever were)? The whole chapter is just a mystery that seems more confusing every time I reread it.

^^^ Well I feel like Tom didn't make it clear that Zimmy was going into Annie's dream even though it seems that way at first glance. Upon rereading she could very well have been going into Kat's dream while she waited for Annie to wake up. Or maybe she went into both? It's not really clear I don't think.BobTheJanitor posted:It's bugged me for a while that the first and last pages of Divine share such similar patterns. It's a total reversal. On that first page she's trying to run from helping Annie by throwing the scar away. On the last page Gamma's tossing away the thing that Kat was using to run away from her issues. It's really clever and I didn't even realize that before and I've read through that chapter a few times. Macaluso fucked around with this message at 05:32 on May 31, 2013 |

More knowledge: the symbol for mercury is shared with its planet, and thus with the god of the same name. Mercury (aside from being quick) is best-known as the messenger of the Gods and inversely the god of messengers, but is also the god of travelers, trickery and thieves (among other things). Mercury is also most commonly found as part of the igneous ore Cinnabar, so clearly this chapter is going to be about Volcanoes AND Pirates.

Redeye Flight posted:Yep. "Quicksilver" is an old common-place term for mercury. It was thought to be living metal, because it fled your touch. Hence, quick, not in the modern meaning of "fast", but in the old meaning of "alive". The implications of a living metal make sense when you consider the city grew out of a seed bismuth and is populated with robots.

I don't think that is quite the symbol for mercury. It's close, but mercury has a circle at the top below the half circle. That one just has a half circle.

Yeah one of the (many) burning questions has always been why Surma ended up with that jerk instead of Eglamore. Or even Reynard, if there's a way that could be not creepy. (I mean they're both sort of magic spirit beings) Anthony just seems like a mostly blank slate and the only hints we've had of his personality are that as a child he was very awkward and intense, and as an adult he seems to be at best an absentee father, and at worst actively trying to do something bad to his daughter.
