Fair enough, figured I should post sources
Zavvi says they'll have it

Stick Skills says it won't

I've never heard of either of these, but still.

Zavvi is a site with a good reputation, its effectively the corpse of Virgin Megastores. The game's also out on PC so that might not have the DLC but there is precedent for this poo poo on the Wii U.

I managed to find a used Wii U on SA and have taken the plunge. Its the deluxe bundle with the one tablet controller. I haven't ever owned a Wii or anything.

What should I purchase to get started? What games are recommended for 2 player couch play?

Nintendo Land should already be on the console, new Super Mario Brothers U is good if you have a friend you don't mind occasionally punching in the face when he picks you up and hucks you in lava, and NFS:MWU is a Criterion game with their usual quasi-pornagraphic detail in crashes and cars. All of those are really good and have 2 player modes, though NFS is mostly a single player game. Since you haven't owned a Wii, if you like RPGs, get Xenoblade. Past that, it kinda depends what games you've played before, because Mass Effect 3 and Batman Arkham City are both fun games (but cheaper on PC and the other consoles)

EDIT: Oh, and the Sonic racing game is really fun too.

This is the only game you will need for the next year or two... Until MH4 comes out. MH is a time eating bitch. I have no idea where the past 200 hours went, but the game says I spent them playing it. It doesn't feel like 200 hours though. And I'm just now in the G rank, so I still have a good amount of content left to go.

New Super Mario Bros Wii or U (requires Wiimotes for multiplayer)
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Pretty much any of the licensed LEGO games have coop play
Wii Sports; maybe Wii Sports Resort (but it requires Wii Motion Plus)
Nintendo Land, if it didn't come with your console
Bomberman Blast (Wii Ware)
Kirby's Epic Yarn and Donkey Kong Country returns have coop multiplayer
Call of Duty: Black Ops II has 21st Century split screen multiplayer using the Gamepad. (TV Player will require a Wiimote and Nunchuck or Classic controller)

If you're interested in single player:
Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 can't be praised enough
Zelda Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are good... mostly
Xenoblade Chronicles is an astoundingly good RPG with ~80 hours just to finish the main story
The Last Story is a much shorter RPG, but does some really interesting things with gameplay
You might enjoy the No More Heroes series, depending on your tolerance for poorly done open world hubs that bookend kick-rear end boss fights

Edit: a few more multiplayer
House of the Dead: Overkill (don't get this if player two is a child or otherwise sensitive to filthy language)
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is a really well done (though hard) shoot-em-up

It's also grindy as gently caress and you'll need to be rear end-deep in a wiki to understand most of the important poo poo you need to do. It's the little asterisk that goes next to MH3U that a lot of the fans like to leave off when talking about how good it is.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I have a PC where I play the AAA titles like Mass Effect and such.

I thought the Mario Galaxy games had coop or is it more of an interactive second player that watches most of the time?

Is it worth investing in multiple Wiimotes/Nunchucks to play the older Wii multiplayer titles or just stick with the Wii U ones?

Wii U games require Wiimotes or the Pro Controller for multiplayer anyway. It's definitely worth getting as many Wiimotes as you'll have likely players.

(Mario Galaxy's second player just gets to collect and shoot enemies with the games currency.)

You will probably want to make sure you get Wii Remote Plus instead of a normal Wii Remote, as more games will probably be requiring it.

I'd recommend Kirby's Return to Dream Land before Kirby's Epic Yarn, especially if you're recommending it for co-op. Epic Yarn isn't bad, but it's really one of those "love it or hate it" titles. I'd suggest watching a bit of medibot's Epic Yarn LP and deciding for yourself.

Check out any local Toys R Us or K-Mart locations for Wii Remote Plus controllers (your local stores, not online). Namely, look for a game called "FlingSmash" because it comes bundled with a black Wii Remote Plus, but also it's usually cheaper than a standalone controller by at least $10 (and last I heard, K-Mart dropped it another $10).

I own three copies of the drat game myself. It's basically a Wii Remote Plus tech demo. Not really a bad game, but if you actually bought it for the game instead of the controller you'd feel ripped off.

Which is more expensive than a Wiimote. I'm not sure how much of an object money is for flare, so

Also I'm kind of freaked out by living in a world where Nintendo can just straight up patch their games like some sort of normal software company.

Buy four of every controller for every console ever, even those consoles that don't have many 4 player games, or any at all! What am I gonna do with 4 3DO controllers? SOMETHING, that's what! And 4 Saturn controllers? A little game called Saturn Bomberman! :getin:

I'm not against having the remote as an option for whatever games it's suitable for, but I think one of the ducks Nintendo needs to get in a row (in terms to tidying up the console's image) is controller bloat. Continuing to feature the Wii remote prominently in marketing doesn't help with misperceptions about the console, and it's an awkward secondary controller due to not matching the Gamepad at all.

Yeah featuring it front and center in their ads is a huge no-no, further confusing customers, but keeping them around is good, especially since theyre so different from the pad and can actually do their other unique things as opposed to the pro which is 'pad but worse'

Supercar Gautier posted:

I couldnt disagree more. The controls are still the big thing that the Wii U is trying to do different from the other guys, and a clever developer can still do cool stuff with it. It's really best existing alongside the pad and pro controllers, this way devs can choose what they want to do.
