Frankston posted:Ugh that poo poo was such a disappointment when I finally got some. I don't think I ever blew a bubble as big as the first pic, but I never had trouble getting modest results with bubble plastic. That said, the absurdly detailed balloon animal-esque designs they'd show in the ads were pipe dreams. Though honestly for me the disappointment came down to "You blow a bubble and then...um...it stays there. Until it inevitably deteriorates from its semi-fragile state into a sticky mass of chemical.". It's like all of the worst qualities of balloons, bubble gum, and soap bubbles with very few of the positives.

Anyone remember those small (I'd like to say about 2-3 centimetres tall but I could be way off) robot-looking thingies that combined to form bigger robots/vehicles/monsters? There were some non-robot-looking bits too like cockpits and wheels I think. Two or three of my friends had them in the mid-eighties but I have no idea what they were called. E: Oh, sorry, this is the 90s thread but I'll leave this here in case someone knows what the hell I'm talking about.

Anybody else remember Z-Bots? My brother and I loved the gently caress out of those things. And godDAMN if we weren't going to look through every single back at the toy store to see if any of them contained Neptoon. I think we finally got him by trading a bunch of the lamer ones to a friend of mine.

I remember the main menu being a sort of library and you could go to the blackboard or something and cycle through significant dates in space exploration. One such article that's burned into my memory was about the cold war, and featured some EGA art of a multiple rocket launcher truck in a snowy forest, with some ominous Sound Blaster music to complete it. Not sure if this is it, but I remember playing around with this when I was a kid. Orbits was a DOS program that had similar features to the one you explained, but I believe had more astronomy and less history. Oh and who remembers that Encarta program that was on all the mid 90's computers running windows 95? I still remember the little maze game that would ask you trivia and had these voice overs. One that my brother's still talk about is this girls voice who says "The world is your oyster!" when you are asked a question and if you get it right she says "You found a pearl!". This was misleading because you actually have an inventory so we bother figured that we got a pearl which would be the answer to some other little puzzle or something...stupid kids I know.

Oh, man, I drank this stuff a LOT at college parites during the mid/late 90's... It's liquor...with SUGAR crystals grown on the inside of the bottle! I remember taking an icepick and breaking up the crystals once the bottle was empty because I thought the crystals would have absorbed enough of the alcohol to keep my buzz going. This was only about 7-9 years ago, but the convenience store I worked in at high school sold this stuff along with other lovely 'toys'. It wasn't too hard to create a bubble over a foot in diameter, but any shapes beyond flattened sphere were virtually impossible. The best thing to do with it was fill it with starting fluid or ether. Not coincidentally, my coworkers and I usually had short, singed arm hair if any arm hair at all.

Aftershock is like Fireball Whiskey: Booze for people who don't actually enjoy alcohol but still want to say they drink something that isn't Mikes. You'll find it at any liquor store near a college and pretty much no where else.

You'll find it at any liquor store near a college and pretty much no where else. Pretty much, but instead of "Fireball Whiskey," I'd say "Goldschlager." I did see it used in mixed drinks however - Aftershock, Goldschlager, and Peppermint Schnapps was a "Red, White, and Blue." I've only seen Aftershock (cinnamon) and Avalanche (peppermint). Never saw or have seen the other colors. Cromulent posted:Oh wow, I remember stealing swigs of that stuff when I was 14, after my friend's older brother left some out after a party. Didn't it advertise that the proof increased as the crystals grew larger? When I turned 21, I thought I'd buy some just for kicks, but couldn't find it anywhere. From Wikipedia. quote:There is a regular myth that the drink crystallizes in your stomach until the next morning. The crystals were then said to liquidate during the morning, releasing a second wave of alcohol into the blood stream. CobiWann has a new favorite as of 12:43 on Jun 6, 2013 |

I was so excited to get that stuff, and the only other thing I remember about owning it was the smell. It smelled loving horrible when you first squeezed it out of the tube, like burning plastic mixed with rotten fruit. Then, after you got used to that, there was this sickly sweet, vinegary bitter ammoniac smell that would seep into your nostrils whenever you tried to make a bubble with it. I remember accidentally breathing in while blowing a bubble one time (I was clearly a very intelligent boy) and my lungs feeling like i had just inhaled a cloud of weak acid. It was impossible to avoid the smell, and since you had to roll it up to make a proper bubble, your hands reeked like industrial runoff and turpentine for the rest of the day. poo poo sucked in retrospect but I loved it anyway because kids are dumb colored bubbles yayyyyyy

MD 20/20 that stuff was the worst. The first time drinking it wasn't bad and really easy to drink, for a novice teen drinker. Of course rapidly drinking high alcohol% for novice drinkers leads to puking. Every other time I tried to drink it I couldn't finish the bottle.

I went to a party thrown by a local tech company in the area last night that had an early 90's hip-hop theme. A picture of the specialty drink list: They had Naughty by Nature, Arrested Development, and Salt N' Pepa perform. It was fun seeing lots of people in costume, and then realizing that holy poo poo, twenty years ago they would be considered to be wearing normal clothes.
