Also, uh, anyone had luck with fast looting? I keep dropping a can and that seems to catch the attention of five thousand undead in a ten mile radius.

I have a girl with a high looting bonus and I start looting then kinda just tap the speed up button so you get a little burst from it. I may have just been lucky though.

Also had a full on church invasion. Not sure if those randomly happen or if the fella sniping happened to attract a small horde maybe? Still, that was a surprise.

Is it just me or does this game do a terrible job at explaining the mechanics? I must be about 2 hours in and all there seems to be to do is story missions and looting. Granted this has created some amazing moments so far but there's got to be more too it than this.

It definitely feels like some 'loud' activities just sometimes spawn a couple of enemies to rush at you, rather than them organically attracting nearby enemies if there are any around. Radioing for a runner to come gather some supplies is one example, even if the whole area is clear some zombies always appear and attack.

Playing it way too much today it is good, but it's not as sandbox as I hoped and there's a bit too much focus on the unkillable plot characters, at least at the start. It's also a bit easy in that melee is very, very powerful compared to shooting. I've gone out on scavenging trips without a gun by mistake and honestly you don't miss it, between the melee being quieter and it hit-stunning multiple enemies and how difficult it is to aim there aren't really any situations where it's worth pulling out the firearm except as a change of pace. The bombs and distraction devices are actually really well implemented but it's hard to see the point of them when a pack of crisps, a bottle of Aspirin and the 'Press A to get up!' thing make you basically immortal. And the cars seriously make hordes into a joke, they are very, very powerful too.

I don't know if managing the personalities of the camp members is important or what the mechanics for doing so actually are, I haven't really dived into that. In my game Alan killed the Pastor when he got sick, I don't know if that always happens and it would be interesting if I could have avoided it.

It feels like the game is just crying out for a Hardcore mode, my camp is always at really high morale, I'm swimming in ammo and meds, it's so hard to die that the Ubermensch Marcus and Maya are the only people I need for field missions. Honestly considering some self-imposed no-melee, only use one vehicle at a time rule because the core game really does have so much going for it.

Edit; Be careful if you're driving the yellow supercar, it's fun to drive but pretty easy to flip that thing for a Walking Dead; Lori Grimes moment. I also liked that there's a Kirkman residence in the first town.

I think the intro was a bit rushed though.

Anyone else having issues with zombies just randomly and constantly spawning inside the church safehouse? I upgraded the guard post with Sniping to increase my sphere of safety or whatever, and since then, instead of making the area safe it's just made the entire outside of the building Zombietown with a bunch of big zombies I've never seen before leaping over the walls to rip the everloving poo poo out of everyone.

Do you have an infested house next to your base? I had that problem with a seperate survivor group that constantly got overrun and murdered. Stop making a safe house there ding dongs!

VV for what it's worth I got the "sniper upgrade"(Pretty sure it's a 1 hour long buff) and it didn't cause any problems and saved a survivors life that was getting eaten outside the normal perimiter.

As far as I could tell I didn't have any sort of infested houses nearby, the church is pretty isolated. I went off to clear out a house and set up an outpost and apparently I was still close enough that zombies were spawning in up there and killed my primary character, I think I'm going to just restart my game and avoid the Sniper upgrade at the start. All it seems to do is kill "nearby" zombies which is more trouble than it's worth since the sound just alerts zombies from outside the safe zone.

Running them over twice with a car works. Once just knocks them over, the next kills them. Alternatively I just beat on everything with a stick and that seems to work just fine. Ferals, Zombie Goons, Screamers, they all fall to the might of my sticks.

Have you been using the radio to search for it?

Regularly finds materials for me when I ask Lily to search for some.

I honestly don't know, I just hoping for a option to sleep instead of barely seeing at night and sending the "B-Team" out. Also I can't get the radio to work, as nobody responses when I select the option for the various food bundles I find.

Yeah, I don't think you can unfortunately. Beds only seem to assuredly prevent people from being unable to sleep. Characters just rest when you're not controlling them.

The nighttime is seriously making it hard for me to play this game. I adore it during the daytime but at night it's just a solid black wall even with my monitor's brightness popped to maximum, aside from the crap-rear end flashlight.

I mean through the build/safehouse/whatever menu rather than using it to call someone to pick-up supplies since you can get Lily to search around for the type of goods you'll need and then put a marker on the map for it. Might help you find the materials, it's also the biggest thing I'm looking for right now since my food and ammo are pretty good and apparently I've maxed out fuel currently.

Why isn't the barbed wire all along the fences of the safehouses? Zombies keep on climbing in the gaps.

I think I'm going to start a new game. I didn't plan very well, and all my bet trained guys went missing all at the same time, leaving my group with a lack of skills. Every time someone went out to get supplies to build stuff as that the others could catch up, they tended to be too underpowered to wander too far.

You kind of have to hold the Y button a bit, doesn't register a press always. There's a few other button presses like that too. Pressing down on the d-pad while in a building should get you the radio menu too.

Not that it would matter because zombies give zero fucks about barbed wire. That gaps are for you so you can just jump over instead of slowly hauling your rear end to the front.

Sucks that some people's nights are too dark. Luckily my TV has a pretty big brightness range. Why they didn't give an option for gamma I will never understand. Maybe you guys can plug it into your computer monitor's until it is fixed.

How do I get survivors to join my base. I saved a bunch of girls at their house, but they are not on the list of residents at the HQ. Need to get someone need to swap to since Marcus got hurted doing something offscreen while Maya just wants to sleep so I can't really use her for the time being.

Did find the option to look for materials and got some expansions coming my HQ through. :toot:

I ended up playing for a couple of hours and then starting over because I somehow screwed up my game. First I ended up killing Maya and then instead of respawning as Marcus I came back as some random dude and Marcus was no longer on my survivor list.

Weird question, are any missions time based?

There are only a handful of places you can use as a home base, and you don't get the option to move until after a story mission.

I think you have to fill up their trust meter. Seems like if you kill hordes and clear out infestations near them they'll eventually ask to join.

You can do safehouse upgrades now, they're just poorly explained and you need materials to do them.
