any non-lovely datetime API is likely wrong because datetime APIs are wrong and terrible IRL.

we could rotate one zone to the west every year so that once every 24 years your noon would be correct.

I like when people say timezones offsets are easy, and then you look at their code and they don't handle timezones on a half hour offset, or those that are at 15 or 45 minutes offset.

theres three time zones you need to care about because they cover like 90% of the market you actually want to sell to.

you can get the timezone of the user from your runtime/user prefs and any timezones related to data from the database and at that point the runtime can calculate the offset from the UTC time source.

unless you're doing something retarded like managing the mapping of timezone to offset you'reself

Shaggar

its only when you have to start doing offsets combined with dst for stored dates that poo poo gets bad cause dst can change on a whim

Just look at Boost::Date_Time, you can neither determine the time zone of the host OS or convert from UTC but you can convert to UTC.

Time zone handling in C++ is balls.

Here's a chunky big data system that receives data in one time zone, runs in another, has calendars in a third and receives queries in combinations of the above.
