pagancow would be ok with this default if you didn't have to jump into the terminal to hack your EDID file to set it to RGB mode.

Huffman bumpWikipedia posted:In 1951, David A. Huffman and his MIT information theory classmates were given the choice of a term paper or a final exam. The professor, Robert M. Fano, assigned a term paper on the problem of finding the most efficient binary code. Huffman, unable to prove any codes were the most efficient, was about to give up and start studying for the final when he hit upon the idea of using a frequency-sorted binary tree and quickly proved this method the most efficient. first error ever Huffman encoded was his professors. owned bitch.

pagancow posted:in english wtf are you on about? that pic is just showing the difference between 4:4:4 and 4:2:0 subsampling. the problem with using ycbcr is if the device doesn't support xvYCC and can't map the rgb colour space perfectly.
|
# ? Jun 14, 2013 15:06 |
|
It switches to a YUV 4:2:2 mode instead of using full RGB that means that chroma and luma resolution are half the resolution of the picture. Also doesn't help that most monitor scalers see a YUV signal, and will attempt to sharpen it to make it "look better" this looks rad on computer text.

I like how the eye is much more sensitive to horizontal resolution than vertical resolution. On time I tried watching a tube TV with my head to the side and I spent a few minutes wondering why it suddenly looked like this, then I remembered: oh, kell factor, nevermind.

pagancow posted:looooooool if mac os sees that your display supports Component video and RGB it will choose Component over RGB making it look like poo poo!! lol it's a bug with the thunderbolt macs apparently. just tried it myself and a 2011 mbp, 10.8.4 (thunderbolt) does YCBCr, but a 2008 macbook, 10.6 (mini-dvi) and a 2009 mbp, 10.8.4 (displayport) use RGB. so it's only a problem if you have a new mac, great thanks apple.

oh if it's sending yuv 4:2:2 instead of yuv 4:4:4 thats just hosed up why are these monitors supporting yuv in the first place though? isnt it optional in p.much every standard and only useful for lovely hdtvs that convert all rgb to yuv?
|
# ? Jun 15, 2013 04:07 |

I made my dreamcast send a 30khz sync VGA signal over scart to my upscaler because I can Suck it standards I do what I want.

so do tbolt cinema displays show yuv then cause that would be lol

I wonder if osx mega man has fixed rotated displays If you rotate a monitor in 10.8 the frame rate drops to like 5 fps on that monitor it sucks

Okay SHAGGAR now is the time to equate Mac OS monitor support to editing conf files in red hat Linux in like 1999 and you would be right!!!

right click, browse package 4 times then be lead to a mts that you cant do anything with. Or you can double click it and get a dialog box that is like "which clip do you want to play?" and then you have to close out and re-open it every time if you want to go to another clip. Lets hope you are bad at camera and never stop recording.

oops I made 20 clips and now its easier to view them in premiere pro than it is the native app. you know in windows you just open file and it plays.
