But the 86 is supposed to be so easy to drive! I don't see what happened. It looked like he got scared and locked up, sending him sliding off? If he hadn't locked, it seems like there was enough road to account for his early apex. That said, that's one of those corners where everyone crashes, going by Ring crash highlights.

You can crash literally anything if you push it too hard, beyond the car's limits or the driver's.

I love to post old dirt track racing no one outside of New York cares about, so here, have the 1985 Schaefer 200 from Syracuse.

My earliest memories are of watching cars of that vintage run here at the local track, since my dad had only recently stopped building them with a friend once the big money came in.

Ok mac, some more random dirt track stuff for you. This whole video is great, the last chance qualifier for Super Dirt Week, 1990. I'm just singling out a pretty wild crash, though, from one of the preliminary heats that they feature during an interview.

This is about as freak as freak accidents can get

Everyone in the thread should get a kick out of the part I highlighted, but if you're a dirt track oval fan sit down and watch the whole thing.

If modifieds aren't your thing, then here's the 1990 World of Outlaws Ground Round Nationals from Syracuse. Cat Terrist you'll probably like this one too, I seem to recall you like watching winged sprint cars as much as I do. Bet they don't run them on a mile unbanked dirt track like that down under, though!

Seriously, running a winged 410 sprint at Syracuse really walks that razors edge between bravery and insanity.

Most dirt ovals here are flat, and only 1/4mi - 1/2mi in size, so the tracks are tiny.
The only banked one I know about is premier speedway in Warnambool, but that's a very very minor banking.

Yeah this year is going to be good. Hopefully they are more stringent with tech inspection and don't let some of the half-assed cars and drivers on the course. If things go well, I'm calling a sub 9:00 run from Loeb with Millen right behind him. Wouldn't be surprised if that gt3 ends up 3rd or 4th.

This weekend is the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and as such is one of my favorite weekends of racing a year. It's extra awesome this year, because NASCAR is making right turns, too. Nationwide is at Road America tomorrow, and on Sunday the Sprint Cup cars are at Sears Point/Infineon.

Here's a piece on Ron Fellows readying for the Cup race to hold us over.

If any of you hate NASCAR for the stereotypical reasons people hate NASCAR, you owe it to yourself to try and catch one of the two races this weekend. I'm an oval fan mainly, regardless of what is on the oval, and I understand that people unfamiliar to oval racing can hate on it. I get why people think it's boring, it's a form of motorsport where enjoyment in spectating is derived from knowing the nuances involved and going from there, something the casual race fan probably won't have at their disposal when watching a bunch of cars turn left.

However, if you like racing at all, few road course events are as entertaining as NASCAR is.

Here's the end of Watkins Glen last year for an example.

Ambrose only does well when there's right hand turns in NASCAR.
And it's not because he's good, it's because the rest of the field is soo bad turning right :v:

I just remembered my falcon ute has a Stone Brothers racing sticker on it that the PO put on way back when Ambrose was still racing here for them and winning races.

Oh I understand NASCAR oval racing and I'm no oval hater BUT NASCAR on ovals is still utter poo poo and the proof to me is when NASCAR hits a real race track. It becomes not just watchable but compelling to watch - its the fact that the cars are so fundamentally unsuited to a road course that makes it so drat good as racing. Plus being overpowered, underbraked, undertyred and suspension challenged, the drivers have to wrestle and conjole the cars - it's brilliant stuff and reminds me of the 90's BTCC, it's really that good.

What this sausage party needs is a big dollop of ketchup! Too bad I didn't make any. :(

I love nascar oval races, but the road courses are so good that they really would do well to have a whole lot more of them scheduled. 750hp, 4 speed asymmetrical cars on a road course is hilariously cool.
