This crap keeps happening to Kimi. He's behind Massa during that unsafe release. Then fast forward a year.

Now, despite the video title, Kimi got gas in his eyes, but that was the extent of his injuries.

More Le Mans footage related to Allan Simonsen's crash has been posted on Youtube. Look what happens at 00:35 and 01:10, just before the crash. Definitely looks like a low-traction situation, perhaps there had been a spill or something earlier?

Just a heads-up if you'd prefer not to watch it, the crash is included in this video.

It had rained just before the race started and although there's no spray the track was still greasy, a few other cars had silly incidents around the circuit and there was a mix tyres being used. I think people just got too greedy on the throttle and kerbs/paint coming out of Tertre Rouge.

If any of you hate NASCAR for the stereotypical reasons people hate NASCAR, you owe it to yourself to try and catch one of the two races this weekend. I'm an oval fan mainly, regardless of what is on the oval, and I understand that people unfamiliar to oval racing can hate on it. I get why people think it's boring, it's a form of motorsport where enjoyment in spectating is derived from knowing the nuances involved and going from there, something the casual race fan probably won't have at their disposal when watching a bunch of cars turn left.

However, if you like racing at all, few road course events are as entertaining as NASCAR is.

Here's the end of Watkins Glen last year for an example.

Was really into Nascar for a few years when Dodge came back for a while, but I have just given up on it. You get maybe what 30 total minutes of exciting racing over 120ish hours invested into a racing season? Then you get the cornball TV coverage, the mind numbingly patronizing ads repeated ad nauseum, constant self re-affirmation that "See everyone, its really a sport, see its hard to do this" and the constant attempts to draw in casual fans by dumbing down things by over explaining every goddamn slightly technical aspect of racing... "Let's go to Ford cutaway car and show everyone what it means when we say a power steering belt broke for 5 minutes"

Hey, where did this soap box I am standing on come from?

Yeah because the 2 other cars that spin are way to the left on the kerbing and seem to simply spin to the inside cause of throttle. What's weird about his crash is that he had crazy snap oversteer.

Anyone who's driven at the limit over paint will confirm this. I've never had the joy of having to deal with wet paint.

What's shocking about this death is that it looks totally preventible. You have a corner (well, kink) onto a crowned road where the track out is not just armco. It's armco that's resting almost against trees. Such a shame.

Holy scrub radius Batman! I know, since the vehicles are lighter and there essentially isn't suspension in those, that you can have some. But that looks wholly unnecessary. Maybe someone who karts could explain it?

A really simplified explanation is that the rear has way more grip than the front for karts. The frame stiffness and the scrub radius are essentially used to lift one of the rear tires during cornering to balance the grip between front and rear.

Remember those junior cars that everyone was talking about a while ago, the tiny replica 356, E-type, 300SL etc.?

Well, they're back and vastly improved! Instead of a rear-mounted engine and one-wheel drive, they're now front-engined, rear-wheel drive (with an LSD!), have a 3-speed semi-automatic gearbox with reverse, proper suspension, better steering and a bunch of other improvements. Engine is out of a quadbike, a 110cc single-cylinder designed by Honda and built by Loncin. Top speed is supposedly 73kph, but 190cc kits are available, which would roughly double the power.

No idea about the price, but they're probably hella expensive. They ship worldwide.

The more I see of Russian drivers I realize if I ever go there I'm never, ever driving a car. It literally looks like it's no-holds barred and no one has any idea how to properly drive.

So many of the incidents are simply because people are driving way too fast for the surrounding environment, and a lot of the others are because people are idiots and don't want to slow down for people turning.

Ive said this before but you must remember that literally very select lucky people had cars there 25 - 30 years ago. Its a whole generation of millions of people who grew up learning to drive by the seat of their pants within the last several decades. Throw in poorly designed traffic laws and infrastructure that simply fails to keep up with how many cars are on the road and add on top of that money fueled cockiness of many, and this is the end result. I bet if everyone in China had dashcams, we would see a lot of the same.

Edit- Although everyone with money in China likes being driven rather than drive so I might take that back.

A lot of it is also complete idiots trying to do a U-turn or left turn from, oh, the extreme right lane, as far as I can tell. Without checking their blind spot or anything else for that matter.

This has recently become a thing in Memphis. Want to turn right at a red light but have cars in the right lane ahead of you? Get in the left turn lane and turn right. Want to turn left but the left turn light is red? Get in the right lane and turn left.
