There are some players who are really bad at it though, like Riquelme.

This did make great telly, tbf. Even my girlfriend was interested. He handled it like a pro, considering, but I suppose that'll just make it look worse when its revealed that he's been making GBS threads everywhere.

Being notified of your dismissal off-air then giving an interview about it a short while later, is not being sacked on live tv.

Has Poyet's english gotten worse recently, or was he just nervous?

In the eyes of this Liverpool supporter, this is part of the FA and Ferguson's plan to destroy Luis Suarez and whoever defends him.

I thought that the issue was more that the statement said this:

quote:

Gus Poyet has been informed today by Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club's internal disciplinary panel that his employment has been terminated with immediate effect.

This followed his suspension, an investigation, and a subsequent formal disciplinary process. In line with the club's own procedures, and UK employment law, Mr Poyet now has a right of appeal. As such, the club will make no further comment on this matter or recent LMA statements at this time.

Given the close proximity of the new season, the club will, in conjunction with its board, now seek to appoint an interim manager pending the outcome of a possible appeal. The interim manager will oversee the initial weeks of pre-season preparation alongside the club's existing staff.

When Poyet says that the first time he heard of that was when a PA handed him the statement, that kind of throws the bolded statement out the window, unless the BBC is actually football's version of a process server.

But then, the club issued another statement:

quote:

In relation to comments made by Gus Poyet on BBC Match of the Day last night, the club would like to point out that its disciplinary panel considered the matter on the afternoon of Friday 21st June and for most of Saturday 22nd June.

The club spent much of Sunday 23rd June in discussion with Gus and his representatives. For legal reasons we cannot say anything about the content of those discussions but Gus was well aware, before he appeared on the BBC last evening, that his dismissal was pending.

Given Gus has a right to appeal the decision to dismiss him, the club will not be making any further comment on this matter at this time.

So, who the hell knows. In all honesty, I can't see Poyet appealing this, because if he is reinstated, imagine the circus that surrounds it.

He did say his phone was off while he was at the BBC, and that legally he's not allowed to respond to contact from anyone at the club. They could have been proper scumbags and texted him 5 minutes before they released the announcement, it's obviously a hosed up situation that is being handled horrifically.
