So I watched the first two episodes of Fate/Zero last night (seems like a fun ride) and I was just wondering how much of Heavens Feel it's going to spoil. If it's a lot I'd rather know and finish the VN first

It doesnt spoil anything really, it's mostly backstory. There is only one character that can be seen as spoilerish, but it's not that big of a deal. The pieces were only really put into place in between Zero and Stay/Night.

According to the translator, the translation is done, editing is done, and Nagato has been hacking the game. The longest wait would mostly be due to QC from Nitro+. quote:S;G translator here. Translation is done and so is basically all the editing. We're just working out all the bugs. And by we, I mean Nagato. Probably the biggest hurdle now time-wise would be QC from Nitro+. 5pb.'s been pretty stubborn with negotiations, including a potential Steam release. Not to sounds like a salesman (not paid by royalties or anything), but I think the only thing that would convince 5pb. is sales.

The only parts of Heaven's Feel zero spoils is small-time, honestly. Just that Sakura is Rin's sister, and her training with Zouken. One's enjoyment of Heaven's Feel should in no way be affected by zero. Both of those plot points are found out fairly early in the route, and well before major twists. Also, Syndrome, I wasn't around for your playthrough of Fate. What did you think of it?

I don't know why so many game writers seem to think playing as an idiot protagonist is a necessity? But Shirou isn't dumb in any way. He's a fairly intelligent person and if you interept his actions as "dumb" you failed to understand his character at all.

I would call him exceptionally competent, but driven by impossible ideals. It's his goals that are kinda dumb, especially since a similar version of his goals were Kiritsugu's downfall. Like adopting father like adopted son.

Ah, yeah, I think it was in the last thread. I loved it. UBW was my favorite route and Saber was my favorite character. I have... mixed feelings on HF, though I did like it overall. It did a really good job at what it needed to do as far as being the 'climax' of the game. The final fight with Kotomine was really good. It was also a much creepier, horror-based route than the prior two. I just feel like a lot of the bits with Sakura were... unnecessarily voyeuristic? I know it's a porn game and all but it felt really gratuitous at points. There were other things in there that rubbed me the wrong way but I can't remember since it's been so long, I just remember it feeling pretty gross. Like, half of the point of things like the dick worms was to be gross, but some of it felt like spank fodder. Were the scenes with Rider sapping Shirou's energy through his dick really necessary? It could've been handled a dozen other ways. I dunno. But yeah, F/SN was rad. I went in completely blind and had a blast. I had no idea who Archer was until they practically spelled it out for me. I guessed Kiritsugu at one point, hahaha Dr Pepper posted:But Shirou isn't dumb in any way. I think that Rider scene was straight up they only had one Rin porn scene in UBW so they gave her that short dream sequence one to even her out.

Yeah, I got confused at first too, but when she opens her eyes, I'm pretty sure she has square pupils like Rider does, so that pretty much confirms it (though I don't think you find out Rider has those pupils until later). I think it was implied she was stealing energy for Sakura's benefit so Sakura wouldn't have to give her as much in her weakened state, or something. edit: I'm playing MLA during the practice match and OH poo poo IT'S THE BETA e: Irukandji Syndrome fucked around with this message at 01:30 on Jul 7, 2013 |

jonjonaug posted:I wouldn't really call Shirou "insane", but yeah he has a massive case of survivor's guilt. Pretty much. Just about everything that he is is a derivation of his father except for his magical specialization. The only thing about his father that is exceptionally different is his methodology. For example where Shirou jumps in front of Berserker's swing to save Saber, Kiritsugu would have just shot Ilya well before that point in the fight (disregarding their relationship, of course). Kiritsugu is driven entirely by the ends, and disregards his own humanity in the process. Shirou's goal is to be a perfect human and is willing to sacrifice his own life for his humanity.

Kind of feeling like BETA from the other dimension are about to break through the classroom window and tear Sumika's head off or something. Something HAS to go wrong one way or another, I just have no idea what yet, but I really am getting an ominous feeling like BETA will follow him through somehow, or materialize in this iteration of the timeline because of his interference. In general I'm not happy about Takeru going back to the original world, but when he has PTSD I really can't blame the guy. It feels like a realistic course of action. I'm just afraid it's going to end in everyone from that world forgetting him even when he inevitably has to go back

Oh no, I can see this coming a mile away "You sure you don't need an escort, Sensei?" Marimo's going to end up dead in an alleyway in this world and Takeru's gonna blame himself. And after she was so sweet and genuine. Does this game hold nothing but misfortune for poor Marimo? Oh man, and since Takeru was the last one to be seen with her and a bunch of students saw him crying on her in a way that could suggest they were lovers and broke up, they're gonna nail him for murder and he'll have no choice but to go back to the BETA-ridden world. Nooooooooo

I've always had a fondness for sword-wielding female characters, and Saber combines that with a natural grace and dignity that really endeared me to her. Although she has her moments of weakness, she has a good soul. Although, I will disagree and say HF was my favorite route. I do grant that some parts are kinda uncomfortable for the wrong reasons in HF (I actually couldn't get through a couple of the H-scenes just naturally reading, they were so awkward), but that amount of action toward the end and Saber Alter in general really sold me on the route. But yeah, FSN is about as good as visual novels get if you ask me. Although, sadly, I do have the True Ending to get through whenever I pick stay night back up. Have to get about half of HF's Tiger Dojos and the True End before I'm done with the game, but man have I had fun with the game in general.

Sparks Liner High was probably the best bad end in the game. It's just that I felt like HF was a little weak in the beginning and took a while to build, so while I do still love a lot about it, UBW ultimately wins out as my favorite. It felt overall the strongest and most compelling as a story and Shirou really grows into his own. ViggyNash posted:I really should finish Stay Night. I'm being fooled left and right by Umineko and it is great. I'm halfway (?) through EP6 and I still have no idea what and why and who. Every time I think I'm onto something it gets outright denied through red. All I know is that every time this song plays, twists follow. Also: how do you convince someone who definitely would enjoy MLA to play the series, without spoiling anything? A friend of mine isn't very much into wacky school hijinks/lacrosse and I can't talk him into playing it with just "it gets better and different, like whole new levels of better" and comparing it with routes of F/SN.
