Cracked my first two bottles from the beer-it-forward extravaganza (which you should think about joining if/when it happens again, as it's been a blast). Columbus IPA and 3Floyds Zombie Dust! Both are really outstanding, and Zombie Dust deserves all the hype it gets. Great pineapple-grapefruit combo from the hops, very refreshing. Citra is a good hop. Columbus IPA is very nice, too, certainly one of the better IPA's I've had from any region. West coast in spirit, comes on with grapefruit and peaches and finishes nice and dry.

Update on the Hoptimum vs. Ruination. I'm a big believer in deck beers, and it's surprisingly nice out in KC. Gnats prefer Ruination 7 to 4 over Hoptimum. I must increase the sample size. (Seriously, gnats love IPAs.)

If anything, you can always laugh at her tendency to describe any Belgian beer as "offensively yeasty." My girlfriend is always looking at my Untappd and asking who these people are. I had to explain to her that they are people that I talk to on the internet and that I don't know them. I should add her to the list too so I stop getting these questions. Also, bars that save kegs of beers like Hopslam should be removed from the list of ever getting it again. They obviously have no understanding of why serving an IIPA old is a bad idea and are going to ruin the experience of people like the poster above. I understand things happen some time, but Hopslam isn't a beer that you usually tuck into a corner and forget about. I'd imagine every bar would be thrilled to get a keg and would tap it near immediately. Midorka fucked around with this message at 02:56 on Jul 12, 2013 |

Met a pal up at Toronado last night, took a look at the bottle list and thought everything interesting was too expensive (like batch 01 Temptation - $75 for 375mL), but I noticed they had Fantome Pissenlit for a reasonable price, so I ordered one to split. Cracked it open and it was tasting transcendent - I'd had it before, but didn't remember it tasting this well. Then I took a closer look at the label and realized it was a 2003 Pissenlit. Needless to say, I took the last two bottles home with me. Holy poo poo.

I had a few of the beers I got from Docjowles in the beer it forward the last few days: Crooked Stave Hop Savant - This was a really strange beer. It had a hoppy aroma, a strong funk from the Brett, and an aftertaste of oak from the foeders it was aged in. I think maybe this brew had too much going on, but it was definitely unique. Great Divide Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti - An excellent imperial stout; nice and viscous, thick and hoppy. The only Yeti I've had so far, but I'd like to try the rest. Firestone Walker Wookey Jack - A solid black IPA. If I didn't have access to New Glarus Black Top, I'd want to be able to pick this up regularly.

If you ever get the chocolate yeti again, try it with roasted marshmallows. It brings out the cocoa and hit of cayenne. It's a campfire staple for me.

Saison is one of those beer styles that's getting super popular, and I've never had any I liked, and I've had many examples. Speaking of Hopslam, I wonder if we're even going to get any once Bell's is in Southern California (not that this is going to occur "soon" of course. We're just the next "target" market). Generally when a brewery expands here, I seem to recall not getting much of the more sought after stuff. Angry Grimace fucked around with this message at 04:58 on Jul 12, 2013 |

This exact thing happened last night, except I toasted her for drinking Left Hand Milk Stout, after I'd just toasted like 4 other people. I had a North Coast Brother Thelonious tonight, really solid quad though a bit simple. I guess that's what's nice about it though, it's just crafted nicely. I'm drinking an Allagash Victor now and I just get a sweet honey with a mild fruitiness. I can't help but feel that Allagash brews good beer, places elegant packaging on it, and charges a lot (comparatively anyway). This was $17. I couldn't justify that for this beer again. Edit: And I split a Cigar City Cucumber Saison earlier with the guys at work, thanks Swickles. Huge cucumber on the nose with honeydew. The flavor was of a lightly brined pickle with hints of spice and a honeydew rind flavor. Everything I could have hoped for. blue.eyed.ash posted:I'd had it before, but didn't remember it tasting this well. It likely didn't. Fantome isn't one known for their consistency. Has anyone here been to the Bruery lately? I'm going to be there Saturday and hoping to pick up a couple of bottles of Tart of Darkness. They don't currently list it on their list of bottles available. Have you guys seen the beer there? Also I had Or Xata at Cinco yesterday, their Horchata beer. It didn't really taste like Horchata but it had an interesting flavor.

It helps if you've had some of their other stuff or similar sours that lean very heavily on or are brewed entirely with Brett instead of just using it to add moderate sour notes. It's also possible you got one with a weird variety of hops used for the dry hop process as they change them from batch to batch. I dunno, I really like it personally.

Now, if Jester King or Prairie wants to let a little Atrial Rubicite or Bomb slip into the state, I wouldn't bitch about it. Hell, GI is in California, yet BCBS never makes an appearance in bottle form. That might take the crown for "best beer from a brewery we get that doesn't make it here."

Has anyone tried Moonlight Meadery's "Wild" I came across a lonely bottle at Whole Foods and I grabbed it. I've hated meads like Viking Blod before, but I have high hopes for this one, even if it isn't their best. If anyone has any experience with it, though, I'd be interested to hear so that I can figure out who I should share it with.

I opened a Deschutes Inversion IPA that was sent to me by my BIF bud, Studebaker Hawk. Really really malty, a piny hop taste, slight honey flavor, no citrus at all, and a bitter aftertaste. I enjoyed this one and will have to look for other Deschutes offerings by me. I'm bringing the Upright Brewing Four saison to share this weekend, can't want to crack that one. Big thanks again to Studebaker Hawk for the killer Oregon beers!

Hello Beergoons. I've spent the last year really getting into beer for the first time and have discovered I'm huge into IPAs/DIPAs or anything thats really hoppy. I also really like wheat beers. I had this beer from Beau's called Wag the Wolf which was really hoppy and "wheaty" tasting simultaneously and I loved it. Unfortunately its a seasonal beer and its gone. I want to find more beers like it but they described it as a hopfenweisse and apparently thats not a real thing? Does anyone have any suggestions for beers or beer styles that I should be looking out for if I want something similar tasting?

Are galaxy hops supposed to have this absolutely horrible smell? The Beer is delicious but smells like surströmming so I'm not sure if this is some hilarious joke from a norwegian brewery.
