Thinking after 1969 or 1977 to current. Open to feedback.

'77 to current seems like it might be too wide a pool, and '69 to current definitely is. 20-25 year chunks would probably be better.

MBU and I were spitballing this a while ago and came up with '73 (adoption of the DH) to '94 (strike) and that was a pool I liked a lot.

I read that response earlier and was thinking expansion to expansion myself, so 1969 to 1993 works great!

This is a spotsell thread on pick six: http://www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?TopicID=446831

quote:

no dh, no AAA, no clones, trades are fine, must play in a stadium in use at the time.

Every round, everyone will sitemail me a list of any six players they want. If you are the only one to choose Lou Gehrig - then he is yours. If multiple people select Lou Gehrig then no one gets him and he is blacklisted. If you get Lou Gehrig, you may use any season you like and he is yours exclusively.

We continue round by round until all rosters are filled. At any point you may select your stadium as one of your six picks. All stadiums will be exclusive. In the event all stadiums are either chosen, or blacklisted, you will play in WIS stadium.

Every round you send me a list of up to six players, if you need less than six to complete your roster, then only send me that amount. If you already have 13 pitchers, you may not ask for a 14th.

Every round I will send my six picks to a few different people who send me their picks quickly. I will not open their picks until they open mine.

It will play out about 100m per team and the draft will go about 12 rounds.

Obviously Lou Gehrig isn't in this pool, but you get the idea.

Right, so I'm doing my very first league, and I took the game's advice of doing an $80M league. I tried to avoid having guys with high WHIP or ERA (for the most part, I guess Schilling's ERA and WHIP may be considered a bit high), and kept a focus on guys with all around games and a tendency to draw walks and get extra base hits.

Here's my team https://www.whatifsports.com/mlb-l/decisions.asp

Any advice?

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!

You don't want to use '01 Curt Schilling with his HR/9 whatsoever. Outside of that it looks pretty good to me, although I'm too lazy to calculate total IP and whether you're good there.

I'd personally want to pick up some more IP (replace Navarro with a 200k guy, replace Choate and Drabowsky with better $/IP guys) but I think it's totally personal preference.

Julio Navarro owns, so long as you don't use Coors as your home park or whatever. In Petco or the Astrodome or pretty much any substantial -HR park, he's fine, and I'd think about using him in Fenway or something if he fit the budget.

Edit: Replaced him with Vern Law. Good HR/9 rates and decent whip

Yeah - 3 of them led off innings, and the other two followed previous bases-clearing homers. Pretty nuts.
