For those wondering, Flash is almost done fixing up the full combat rebalance mod. When he's done and everything is working as intended he'll release the source for modders to work with and tune.

Any ideas as to why the lighting in my game is blue and washed out? I've tried disabling all video options as well as updating my drivers but still the same thing. I'm running a single Radeon 6950 and haven't had anything like this happen in other games.

I'm nearing the end of Act 1 and the only issue I am having with the combat is that I just don't understand how to break blocks. I can kind of roll around and get behind dudes, get a hit in - roll away after taking some hits and repeat but I feel like this isn't the best way of fighting dudes. If I attack their front they just block my attacks most of the time and only sometimes let a hit in. Am I doing everything wrong?
|
# ? Jul 14, 2013 19:31 |

Nope. Rolling around, waiting, riposting or signing at them is the way to do it. Just hacking away at someone blocking does not work.

I really hope Witcher 3 improves on the combat. Its highly infuriating that Letho blocks my attacks when he's stunned and when I am attacking him from behind. Enemies doing complete 180s to deflect my attacks is no fun at all.

Speaking of continuing choices I'm curious how they'll handle (MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS) Saskia in part 3. So either she's back to normal, or dead, or brainwashed by a totally awful person. Those are very different things and Philippa having a dragon is probably something that needs resolution.

Throw bombs, Witchers aren't just sword dudes they are supposed to be using tricks craft a hundred grapeshot bombs and use your signs and traps you have a full arsenal. Well except for one sequence later on that I hate.

All the events in Witcher 2 will probably have minor consequences in Witcher 3, just like the events of Witcher 1 had minor consequences in Witcher 2. They're already going out of their comfort zone with making everything open-world, I can't imagine they'd change the way they do consequences from previous games as well.

If you get a good Aard on him and back him in the corner you can get a ridiculous number of quick attacks in before he recovers. Whenever he doesn't have Quen up get right in his face with Aards, Ignis and sword hits. I found bombs aren't much good against him, they take too long to throw.

This is excellent - I have been staring at Phillipa thingummy's empty skull cavity with horrified fascination, and my next three quests all require me to go talk to her at length. So I'd like for her to have a face. Tangentially, and this might belong in PYF video game things, I love the way W2 does leadership - Foltest is, charitably, flawed in many ways but it's plain that he is a motherfucking KING. And when Saskia does her first big speech in Vergen, it's genuinely inspiring and convincing, even though what she's trying to convince the Council of is marginal. And Loredo is a bastard, but he's a smart bastard and you can see how he keeps hold of Flotsam.

I wonder what they're going to do on consoles for Witcher 3. Xbox players won't be able to port Witcher 2 saves from 360, and PS4 players won't have anything period. I'm guessing they might do a Mass Effect style comic book thing, but hopefully they don't just make a default set of choices and leave it at that.

I'm guessing they're going to make a default set of choices and leave it at that. Serves you right for defecting from the PC master race. [/YCS] Seriously though, I think that at least some of the things in TW3 might have more consequences than in TW2. Firstly, a couple of decisions were more monumental than in the first game in the first place. Secondly, they probably have more money and already knew they'd be making a third one. As I understand it, the studio was nearly bankrupt by the time TW1 came out, and didn't the whole "you can import your save thing" from TW1 come pretty late in development. sebmojo posted:This is excellent - I have been staring at Phillipa thingummy's empty skull cavity with horrified fascination, and my next three quests all require me to go talk to her at length. Well, basically any way the witcher 2 ends the same thing happens, the realm is destabilized and the Nilfgaardians invade, so everything else is just filling in the details of what you actually did.

Speaking of importing save files. Other than importing your starting gear, what could be changed by importing a witcher 1 save? I haven't played through the first game since tw2 came out, and I don't have my old save files. All I can think of would be: When Foltest mentions Ada in the prologue, and meeting Radovid in Act 3. And maybe something with Thaler when you meet his agent in Act 1. There didn't seem like much opportunity for a tw1 save file to change much dialogue.

I finally beat Witcher 1 and I loved it! I'm in Act 2 of Witcher 2 right now and I have a few issues which maybe you guys can help me out with. First, are NPCs supposed to be made out of paper? Every single NPC escort/fight mission I've done, I've had to re-load around 15 times because they die in like one or two hits. Which kind of leads into my next point, is the Magical Vigor skill bugged? I took it, but I still only have 2 vigor in the bar. The last thing that's been annoying me is the trophies. I looked online and it said that all trophies have different bonus stats, but in my game there's nothing listed at all. This happens with a few items I've got: online they're listed as having one set of special stats, but in my inventory they don't have anything. I dropped the difficulty down to easy, just because I was sick of the NPCs dying in 2 or 3 hits while I roll around like a jackass because I die in 2 to 3 hits as well. I mean, I don't mind having to do sneaky combat, but it is irritating to be roadblocked because it's virtually impossible to save the NPCs on normal.

It sounds like you're playing with the combat rebalance mod instead of vanilla. Really, even if it weren't currently glitchy, I'd recommend you play vanilla before a modded game.

That could be it. I thought I had the combat mod unchecked in the launcher, but I'll have to double check later. I'm pretty sure there's still no auto-parry in, and isn't that part of the mod? Eh. Guess I could just remove the mod completely to be sure. Lanky_Nibz fucked around with this message at 20:09 on Jul 15, 2013 |

My game really felt unpatched or otherwise messed up. No stats for trophies, stats that didn't match the ones online, and paper-thin NPCs. At the same time the combat patch wasn't (supposedly) turned on, and I had to level up the Witcher training tree first too, so I don't know what the hell. I didn't even get the 10 DLC whetstones in my inventory! I uninstalled the game before work and left it redownloading. Hopefully a complete reinstall will solve my dillemas. I'll be sure not to mess around with mods until after. Now I just hope I dont have to start all over again . . . Even though I DID miss the tattoo bit in Act 1, so I guess some healthy backtracking wouldnt be TOO bad.

Lycus posted:Those are all true. But the biggest change is if you befriended Siegfried. If he's still alive, he appears in Witcher 2 and helps you out. On Iorveth's Path, you're able to enter the Loc Muinne through the front door without a fight, something you're normally only able to do on Roche's Path. On Roche's Path, I believe the Order won't attempt to take Anais from you by force if you rescue her from the Kaedwenis. These only occur if you sided with him in Witcher 1. Otherwise, he's absent or dead. I tried the FCR and honestly, I'm not a fan. For every good change, there are other awkward changes. The changes to Quen are especially jarring. I also dislike only getting experience for quests. I understand why the author made that changes, I just don't like it. Also, I hate how so many crafting recipes were removed. Yes there were a lot of useless ones, but why not keep that variety? I got fed up when I had to craft robust cloth for some armor only to find out FCR removes that recipe. So I was stuck running from vendor to vendor gathering as much as possible, even though I had the raw materials I could craft it with. l33t b4c0n fucked around with this message at 21:49 on Jul 15, 2013 |

Does anyone have any suggestions for sign casting unresponsiveness? I read the OP and browsed the last 10 pages or so, but didn't really see anything. I have a bunch of keys mapped to sign quick-casts, but I can't seem to get the hang of when I'm "allowed" to cast a sign, and when I'll just stand around tapping the key like a jackass, with full vigor. I had to dial down the difficulty to Easy to get past the Letho fight at the end of Act 1, but it turned it from ragequit impossible to baby-town frolics.

If so, then i've got nothing other than maybe lower some graphics options so you do not have any input lag. On that note, my only beef with this game is that normal makes me want to rage-quit, and easy is too loving easy and makes me feel like a pussy for not playing normal. I've beaten the game on normal twice, so I can do it, it's just a pain in the rear end on repeat play throughs when I know i'm about to have an encounter that I either use cheese to win (Endrega Queens) or will have to re-load repeatedly (Letho.) But easy is piss-easy, and I no longer even need potions or bombs or anything.
