I've lost track. It's not as if any of that money was going to go towards transit infrastructure, let alone in Toronto. Why commit new money when you can reshuffle the old, announce it again, and let the province and the city deal with the funding shortfall for the LRT?

Ontario's finance minister has come out and openly said that unless Ford comes to the table with serious proposals for how Toronto would pay their share of a subway extension rather than a new LRT, "it will be a very short conversation" because the LRT plans are already in place, already paid for, provide the exact same level of service, and cost less which frees up more money to be spent on transit elsewhere (not that that $500M/$1B will actually get spent on other transit, but oh well). Ford's scheme here is really transparent and everyone involved is aware of that and doesn't want to put up with it.

I really can't figure it.

She could be running for Mayor, making her case for Deputy Mayor if Holyday goes provincial, or simply vying for reelection by showing that she can get transit built, be diplomatic, have "vision".

I really can't figure it. A lot of Stinz' support came from people like me who almost certainly never consider voting for her but who appreciated the fact she was willing to derail Ford's agenda and re-establish the much more reasonable arrangement that Miller had negotiated. If she actually wants to win she needs to attract conservative voters, many of whom are really angry at her for what they view as her betrayal of Ford. JohnnyCanuck posted:And we're the CAPITAL OF CANADA but Queens Park barely remembers we exist when it comes to Provincial funding. The TTC pays 63.2% of their operating expenses using fares, whereas Ottawa's transit system only covers 52% of their expenses with fares. I agree that both systems should get better funding but its worth emphasizing that Toronto, despite being the largest city in the country, gets a significantly worse deal on transit than any other Canadian or American city of comparable size. The TTC should follow the Hong Kong model. Build shopping centres and high rise apartment blocks on top of the subway station so thousands of residents now find it more convenient to use public transit, and pay operating costs from property rents. With the large Cantonese business population I'm surprised it hasn't been done already.

Unfortunately, this post is also as detailed about implementation as the Mayor's plan.

Shelly Glover @ShellyGloverMP Minister of Heritage and Official Languages I'm trying to investigate, but http://www.shellyglover.ca/ gives me a 404. Off to a good start! She also don't bother using Twitter and no Facebook updates since October 2012. I almost expect noteworthy politicians (i.e. cabinet ministers) to make use of social networking... is that so wrong? Yet another Heritage Minister with no background whatsoever in anything heritage related. She is Metis and speaks French and English fluently, so I suppose that explains the Official Languages title.
