Dick Trauma posted:I'd come home from work late at night and be thinking "I wonder if there will be a bunny?" and as I turned into my spot there it would be. It was such a silly and strange thing. This reminds me of when I was in grad school and lived next to a frat house with a pond that was home to several mallards, both drakes and ladies. They loved to come over to my complex and beg for treats. So, there were many days as I walked back from the my office and I would think to myself "I wonder if the duckies will be there".

My Lovely Horse posted:I lived in an area with mountains and rocky ground for decades and then moved to where it was flat and sandy and was aghast to see a rabbit just sitting there, in the middle of the city, like it wasn't a thing. And then I took a closer look and realized what people who know rabbits are aware of, namely that there's never just one rabbit, and it did take me a while to stop going AWW LOOKIT THE BUNNY every time I saw one (i.e. every five steps). I moved to central Illinois a year ago and was absolutely stunned at the amount of rabbits here. What's nice is that they're all pretty bold (for bunnies) and don't immediately run away if they see you, so I can usually get pretty close to them while going "Bunny bunny bunny!" before they run away. Shoot, if I glance out my office window there's a 50% chance I'll see a bunny just chilling there doing bunny things. In Indiana it was all deer all the time, nary a rabbit to be seen. And while deer are cool, they also come loaded with ticks and aren't immediately ultra adorable the way rabbits are. Between them, the gabillion squirrels who are all bold as poo poo and will run right up to you if you have food, and crows that just sit on fences bitching at you when you walk by, I'm pretty much in wildlife heaven over here, I love it.

Yeah, the ones where I lived (Berlin) were pretty bold as well. You could walk right by and they'd maybe do a lazy hop away if you got too close but by and large you got the impression it was more of a nuisance to them rather than any real flight instinct. Every year you could actually watch them grow bolder with age - the three-week-olds first time out of the warren would bolt immediately if you turned the corner, at a few months old they started catching on to the fact that the humans around were harmless and once they'd been around for a year or two they'd have grown into chill ol' rabbits. Where I live now the rabbits are in the park rather than residential areas and they keep a lot more distance and are much flightier.

We have both ravens AND crows here in Los Angeles, a fact I never knew until a couple of weeks ago. I just thought they were all crows. Of course I have no idea how to tell them apart, so they're all still just crows to me.

Thanks for this thread guys. I just had my last childhood pet put down (he was 18) and this thread has been a big help the last week. Here is a picture of him from before he got sick, still an old man. He had the loudest purr of any cat I've ever known. I'll miss him.

Once, I lived close to a lake full a frogs in the spring. Somehow, everyone hated the sound but i loved it. Apparently frogs "croak" in English, what a cute word . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUcfvd0X9rg

Dick Trauma posted:For about a year when I lived in Denver each night when I pulled into the parking garage under my apartment building there was about a 50% chance of a rabbit sitting quietly at the head of my stall. There was a field outside the building but it was otherwise an urban area. One of the things I miss working in the port town of Fremantle in Australia is taking the train to work there and back. The tracks would pass over one of the deep bays where a lot of ships would moor to unload. The best thing though was that you'd usually see a pod of dolphins just frolicking there in the water. Its really the best way to start off and finish a day watching dolphins just zooming around. http://www.fremantleports.com.au/Visiting/Pages/Dolphin-Sightings.aspx Looks like some have been regular visitors for ages!

I often catch the Ferry into Uni, and if I'm really lucky, some days I get to see Penguins. There's no better start to the day than penguins.

My housemates spaniel understands the word penguin. He understands that it means that somewhere in the house THERE ARE PENGUINS and he must find them RIGHT NOW. Queue a tiny, super fluffy yellow spaniel skidding over the house barking and looking between bookshelves for those awesome penguins. He actually knows what penguins are as well. If they are on TV in a documentary and you say penguins he runs up to the tv and paws at the stand. He also barks at lions.

Yes, let us bitch about harmless pictures in the FEEL GOOD THREAD. My new kitten Kiwi, I'd post pics of how he looked when he got here but this is the feel good thread. My own personal feel good story, we had a tremendous scare with my mother, she had uterine cancer, today she got her clean bill of health, its gone.

I missed Grandmsa chat by a few pages, but my Grandma just did the cutest thing. About a month or she wasn't feeling well, so I took a few days to stay at her house with her, so she could have help getting out of bed, having someone take her to the doctor, cook for her, etc. I didn't mind, I love spending time with her, but she was a bed ridden 87 year, so she went to bed around 6:30 pm. I couldn't really go anywhere in case she needed me, and I don't really know anyone in her twon, so from around 7 to 12 I was bored out of my mind. One night I ended up renting a ppv movie (v/h/s/2, which was amazing). After a few days I had to get back to work so one of my aunts came to stay with her. Cut to a few days ago, when I get my birthday check from her. As long as I can remember, she's given me my age in dollars, so I was expecting a check for 31 dollars. Instead, I got a check for 26.11. I figured the ol' girl had finally gotten batty, so I called her to ask her I got such an odd amount. She said " You ordered a ppv movie without asking, so I took the difference out of your present." Maybe it's just me, but I thought that was adorable.
