That's not all Disgaea 4 Returns has been announced for the Vita! Not much information is on it but I have high hopes because if they fix the post game it'll be amazing !

Oh man if they fix D4's problems I just might break down and buy a Vita. Also, since this thread's showing some activity, does anyone happen to have a link to some D2 game mechanics? Evilities, move properties, anything you have really. Japanese pages filtered through Google Translate acceptable. Failing that, I'd appreciate anything anyone might wanna type up.

I actually never bought Disgaea 4 because I assumed an improved version would come to Vita I hear it's one of the best so with all the improvements it should be great.

Wow, that is just ridiculous. I thought it was crazy enough as it was being able to max out traps on the Vita version of D3. I'm assuming this is a Disgaea D2 screenshot? Since there's only one level 999 item, I'm assuming there's no method for duping this time around?

Double or even triple criticals. Or possibly there's a stat or status that counters Critical.

Weird, but quick question. At what point in Disgaea 3 (Detention, not Justice) should I actually care about having a bunch of cool, different units and when is too early to just grind everything into oblivion? I'm only in chapter 2, having just returned to Mao's heart after eating the sunny-side up dragon egg, and it's hard to tell when numbermania is supposed to start! As far as getting my hands on the rest of the games go, it looks like only Disgaea PSP is good to get? With a Vita version of 2 being released and 4 also getting the Vita treatment. Is this correct?

Disgaea 1, even the PSP version, is really primitive compared to the later games, its kinda hard to go back to it in a serious way. The story might be good enough to go back and just play the campaign though. If you want to go backwards, the PSP port of Disgaea 2 is the game you want to play. As far as I know its not coming to Vita but I don't really keep track of that stuff.

The main campaign of D3 is actually surprisingly tightly balanced and you can beat it without doing any grinding if you use the characters the story provides and stick to using uniques once you have good enough characters to replace the generics so as to not diffuse EXP gain too much. Doing so, you'll actually find yourself considering movement ranges, managing resources and all that good SRPG poo poo, with little to no grinding required. Once you reach the postgame, though, the math gets bugfuck stupid and that's when you start grinding and just go nuts with what team you dreamed of. As for the rest of the games, yeah, always go for the enhanced portable editions if you want extra content. Personally I like playing my games on a large screen, but if you don't care about that (and don't mind waiting an extra three years to get your hands on an installment in the franchise) then the portable releases are the way to go.

Not even all of the main characters. (In 4, only Val, Fuka and Artina were regular parts of my main team). Generics also have a MUCH easier time learning more skills, at least in 3 and 4, rather than dragging everyone through the Class World to learn Big Bang, they just start as a Bodyguard, learn Big Bang, then move on to whatever I was going to make them in the first place.

In Disgaea D2 I don't know what I would do without my heavy knight, thanks to their broken as gently caress passive ability. If you set them to guard during your turn, they will take a hit for ANY allied unit on the map, no matter where they are, no matter how many times (until they die). Load them down with hp boosting items and your team just doesn't get hit.

It's still the best thing the series has done with monster units so far, brings them the closest yet to me actually wanting to use them when it's a choice between them and a humanoid unit.

Do not patch it if you plan to really get into endgame and don't want a stupid ammount of grinding. Either language is fine, but I do prefer the English slightly. If only for Desco's amazing voicework. Speaking of Desco, don't do too much grinding at all until you get her. She's an amazing mana farmer.
