Its really not grindy at all now, and this is compared to Guild Wars 2. Leveling for most classes takes less time. Even Visionmaker is nowhere near the kind of grind you needed to do for a Legendary weapon. Conjunct is now super easy to get with battleground dailies and the only expensive and/or time consuming element of the game is masterworking/enchanting because of the RNG. Even masterworking isn't what it used to be because you can run KN20 in Abyss +9 and go for Mayhem gear which masterworks alot easier than everything else in the game (14 scrolls for the whole set compared to the 100s of scrolls I burned on Regent/Conjunct).

This is probably the worst part of Tera. But if you are really looking for something like that then let me point you towards the most misogynistic and horrible game made by men.

Beserker totally rules. I was getting tired of TERA and decided to make a DPS class to farm vitriols; little did I know how much fun it would be to wade into a massive sea of mobs and kill them all in three awesome bonecrushing attacks. I've been bonked in a single hit by Beserkers in PvP multiple times, now I'm really looking forward to being the one doing the bonking.

Uhh, I got my Lancer to level 42 and the consensus seems to be (with the exception of healers) that dragoons is where its at for fast leveling.

The spawns off 1x Dragoon completely owned me at level 42. So I killed Naga BAMs and quested till level 44, pimped my dude out with all superior +6 gear and went in for round two. I got KO'ed on the ropes again.

Pre patch I would have run Necromancer Tomb until level 45 and decked my dude out with Sigil Adstringo gear, which as I recall from leveling my Mystic, was pretty much as good as level 58 gear. But Sigil Adstringo is now a level 58 dungeon. Are dragoons even viable for leveling a lancer? Until level 46 where I get lockdown blow I don't see it happening even in +9 gear. Pretty much all of your attacks have fairly long frame recovery and the ones that don't have long cooldowns. Even with minion crystals, if you are a fraction of a second late on wallop or don't get a huuuuge stun on shield bash, you will lose 2/3rds of your health before you can backstep.

Tempest Reach Naga BAMs are easy as hell but the exp has turned to poo poo (only 67,000 exp per BAM with double exp boost). Questing is faster. What do post patch Lancers do for fast exp at level 45 these days?

Hello stranger. I'm 8 hours ahead of server time so you know how that goes. Difficult to find a premade when you don't have zyrks/cruxes. Consequently, my Lancer is 2 wins/10 losses because solo queuing CS gets you put in a raid of 10+ shitlords from Celestial Hills and Ascension Valley.

Ehh, I find the players that can't read english more of a problem when running CS. Since a bit of teamwork (unless you plan to use the airship exploit) is required to win, being able to follow the team chat is important. I'm one of those CH shitlords but I find myself always close to or at the top of the chart and currently have a 60% win/loss ratio. Maybe next time you lose see how many of the shitlords happen to have brazilian names :v:

The kind of stupidity I've witnessed solo queuing CS is beyond anything I've ever seen in a multiplayer game and the only rational explanation I could come up with was that these players were actively role playing dumb and dumber.

Updated:

Make sure to get your daily Corsair's Stronghold quest. It gives really good exp if you win + the chest reward gives you a guaranteed strongbox key. Every 10 levels you will get a yellow Corsair's Stronghold quest that you definitely want to do. The one at level 50 gives 13.7 million exp.

Do Sinestral Manor repeatable quests until 30, then Desert Fires in Colossal Ruins from 30 to 40. From 35 onwards can mix in a few Cultist's Refuge runs for free gear upgrades which makes it easier to handle larger numbers of Desert Fires.

At level 41 do Necromancer Tomb a couple of times until 42. Then I did Tempest Reach Naga BAMs (when it stops giving over 130k per kill its time to leave). Otherwise I had to do Necromancer Tomb repeatables until 44.

Upgrade your gear at level 44 to all superior +6 and you can do Dragonfall Devas. Only do 2 or 3 at a time and avoid the Mystic world boss that wanders around the area because he will push your poo poo in.

I did this and Corsairs until level 48. Upgrade your gear on the broker to level 48 all superior + 6. Buy 2 or 3 Potions of Will from the broker and run Akasha's Hideout for level 50 gear upgrades. +6 this with fodder drops. Run Golden Labyrinth repeatables and Corsairs for exp.

When you can use level 50 +6 superior gear you can now handle 3x dragoons and the exp is insanely fast. Can do this until Sky Garden at 53, gear up from Sky Garden and then do bears/mugatos outside Pathfinder post until 54. At 54 I'd try to find a BAM grinder in guild so you can tag along and leech exp until 60.

In PvE they do more damage than Lancers now and are a bit more mobile than a sorc for ranged dps.

In PvP before the patch they were a complete rear end in a top hat class, capable of multiple instant ranged knockdowns, stagger lock, point blank stuns/knockdowns and 60k face crits.

After the patch they are the living embodiment of troll. Can combo any healer in 3v3 to death and can kickstun for 50k+ damage with Priest buffs + Energy Stars.

One of the highest damage dealers in equalized battlegrounds by a fairly wide margin and are not terribly dependent on attack speed like Lancers and Slayers who sort of get screwed by (single attack speed) equalized weapons.

PvP is pretty fun when you have a good premade. Low level Corsairs is annoying but at max level it's nice. BGs are OK and 3v3 arenas are pure fun once you have the gear. Getting to that point can be long and tedious though....

WanderingKid

The combat mechanics in this game are pretty good. It has mouse aim targeting instead of tab targeting and its a very good system. Several classes have skill combos which are almost Street Fighter-esque in terms of requiring precise rhythm and reaction time, and watching everything your opponent is doing, at all times. Lancer for instance feels like playing a fighting game in the sense of trying to get 3, 4 hit combo within a single stun, then linking a second combo using frame glitches (i.e. leash out of retaliate). each hit in a combo has a tiny window in which to follow on with the next hit or it comes out slow and is punishable.

The big downside is that Tera is highly gear dependent, so the only really good pvp is in 3 vs 3 arenas when everyone has +12 pvp gear (Conjunct minimum) and tboth teams are playing to win (not feeding ELO to get free gear).

The battleground pvp modes are full of people that are undergeared and have communication problems. Corsair's Stronghold, the equalized battleground also has alot of conflict of interest issues. There are far too many reasons for players to do CS and so it often turns into a clusterfuck of people pursuing individual goals whilst the whole team fails spectacularly. Some of the goals in CS are fast leveling, farming bellicarium credits, making rank (ELO) etc.

There are some perverse incentives like leader giving +80 credits. I think this is supposed to be compensation for having to scan and type alot in chat which can result in your individual score and credit reward being lower but sometimes people take leader, don't lead and just run off and kill poo poo whilst their team loses. They get the maximum credit reward for doing that. Its the same with people getting easy kills in tanks. You know the incentives are screwed up when every healer on your team isn't on the ground healing, because they are trying to get the maximum credit rewards from getting tank kills.

KaneTW
Dec 2, 2011

You only get win rewards when your team wins (hello there 1040 point reward during random 5x point bonus) which also leads to some leaders being really passionate about video games in raid chat (I'm surprised that I haven't gotten a warning given how mad I got sometimes).

The battleground matchmaking system in this game is flat broken. It appears to pool several units of players and sorts by class on a first come, first served basis. Each unit = 1 party queuing the battleground instance. Each unit can be as small as 1 player or as big as 5 players. There are some rules governing things like the number of healers on both teams. You never get situations where red team has 4 healers and blue team has none, except when the queue bugs and you end up with 20 vs 15. Both teams nearly always have the same number of healers. This may be 1 healer on both teams or 6 on both teams (depending on the pool of players queuing).

If you queue as a full 5 man party with a balanced composition (1x tank, 3x dps, 1x healer), you tend to get matched up with other premades. If nothing else, queuing as a 5 man party precludes 4 useless shitters from being on the same team as you. Not having 4 healers in your party doesn't preclude you from being joined by other premades with 1 or 2 healers.

If you solo queue, you will probably end up on a team consisting of other solo queuing players or people queuing in incomplete parties as the matchmaking system attempts to combine broken parties. You will probably lose when this happens and it applies even more so to unequalized Fraywind Canyon. It is common on Mount Tyrannas to LFG ilvl 160+ premades for all battlegrounds.

Even if everyone in the party is hopelessly inept, they still win more matches than they lose purely by outgearing solo queuing players in poo poo gear.

Yeah, healing CS can be frustrating. On my Mystic there are definitely times when the temptation to just ditch the other guys and run into a tank and start blasting people becomes overwhelming. If you find yourself suffering to prop up a poo poo group I suggest you just forget about objectives and try to have fun and make the most of it, CS is certainly frustrating enough as is!

I finally hit 60 and started working on my "end game" set, did nexus traverse for the first time yesterday and that poo poo was easy as gently caress, even going with 12 people for the 20 man loot. :stare: I'm probably going to aim for abyss level gear and got the boots with a few pieces of agnitor. Is it worth it to masterwork the agnitor stuff I have or just enchant to +9 and save the money/headaches for the rest of the abyss stuff?

I'm kind of wanting to join a guild for the alliance stuff and have a group to run the cap dungeons, but is it me or is the community in this game way worse than other mmos?

Also how the hell does the pvp server work? There's no factions in this game so is it a free for all when you head out into the world?

KaneTW

Masterwork Mayhem/Regent gear only. Community is OK, I've seen worse. On PVP servers you can toggle outlaw on and off, if you have outlaw on you can attack anyone and can be attacked by anyone, if you have it off you can't attack anyone but only outlaws can attack you.
