It just sounds like a dumb excuse when in reality they probably just feel that doing brawl-style FMVs isn't worth the effort or money that could be put into more important things

Minidust posted:haha yeah, hoping that was some kind if misquote or mistranslation, cuz it's indefensibly stupid if true. It is. The actual article talks about the fact that they designed cutscenes to be 'rewards' for gameplay, and that them all getting leaked online diluted the impact of those scenes because they're taken out of context. They decided, instead, to focus on things which don't require context to enjoy, including promotional/crossover videos which can just be uploaded onto the internet and not suffer for it. This has somehow telephone-gamed into "they're not doing a single player mode because Sakurai was upset about Youtube!" There is nothing about them not doing a single player mode in the game and they've already discussed that they are doing single player things, just not SSE again.

Besides if theres one thing Sakurai is good at, it's unlockables. I hope theres one as insane as the Kid icarus unlock board.

Sex Tragedy posted:Defend yourself you ape. I did. I thought the controls felt too loose/floaty and I never thought like I was in control as well as other platformers I've played. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's still a really good game. But after playing other recent platformers (VVVVV, Mutant Mudds) and seeing how well they controlled in comparison, I just think they could have tightened things up a bit. It's also why I haven't bought Luigi U yet, because I heard he controls even worse.

NSMBU controls miles better than Mudds and VVVVV, those are both games that have stiff, mechanical motion. You might prefer that, but the momentum of a Mario game adds a lot to the excitement. Nothing feels better than running full-tilt through a level, something the majority of NSMBU levels were designed to allow.

I love how most of the levels are designed with speed running in mind. The older NSMBs didn't control that well to me but U controls almost as well as World. I don't really understand this argument. Different platformers have different control styles that work well for their type of game. You couldn't shove VVVVVV's controls into a Mario game or vice versa. And that's fine. It's absurd to say that one controls better than the other when they're not really comparable in terms of gameplay. Comparing different Mario games would be more appropriate.

I have a bricked NA Wii U with a brand new gamepad that's not being used. Maybe we could work something out?

Fighting games have a new standard in story modes with Mortal Kombat 9. That was well presented and absolutely fun as hell. The Soul Calibur/Blade adventure modes with its varied objectives and small story snippets are also a standout. There are many ways of making good single player fighting game experiences as long as developers actually try. And even without modes outside of "fight these dudes arcade ladder style" I still admit I play Tekken games for the endings.

I just realised New Super Luigi U is a combination of both versions of Super Mario Bros. 2: it combines a more difficult level pack with Luigi's floaty jump.

My favourite part of Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan was the ways it subverted your expectations. If you tried to access a warp room using the same method as the first game, you'd find yourself at a single pipe with '1' over it. If you don't want to replay the game from scratch, then there's a convenient pit to kill yourself in. Then it happens again later in the game, and they've taken out the pit. Your only hope now is the timer.

This is a really cool idea and I will probably give it a shot. I imagine that 90% of people will accidentally pick up a coin in the second or third level and just give up though E: Man someone has already done it. I think they used warps though, which is kinda lame. Help Im Alive fucked around with this message at 15:19 on Jul 27, 2013 |

welp, I did it I used secret exits, but I think you have to. World 3 is impossible because there's a level with unskippable coins. World 4 is probably possible but I was having a lot of trouble with the first fortress so I used the secret exit in world 2 to skip to world 5. I also used secret exits in world 6 and 7 to skip some levels. (I don't think you need to do this though) Most levels aren't actually too bad if you're using the squirrel or propeller mushrooms. The only really tough part is the first fortress in world 7. There's a part at the end where you have to weave inbetween a bunch of coins using the mini mushroom and it is the worst

It would also be one step closer to Nintendo finally getting our of their rock and admitting online matters.

I'm happy with the rather under the hood social media that does exist, I also hate achievements and find them bothersome when they pop up, I've played games without achievements for years I certainly don't need them shoved down my throat for me to beat a game now.

I love achievements personally. They don't mean anything and they don't make you look like a better person or anything, but fun/creative achievements can breath a little more life into a game you've beaten already. Case in point, in Half Life 2: Episode 2 escorting the gnome made the game basically a totally different game (of course some driving sections were infuriating but still)
