This is more "help me find a song similar to this sound"-request.

In KT Tunstall's new song Invisible Empire there is a very short weird intro before the song starts as can be heard in the first few seconds here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUGrnrr3WkE

That short part reminds me so much of some song (maybe from a game or something) but I can't put my finger on what exactly. Does this sound familiar to anybody else?

Help me. I was playing my bass and working around with a few things that sounded good to me and this came out. It sounds so familiar to me but I can't quite place it. I'm sure to someone else it will be obvious but this is like trying to remember a word mid-conversation and it's driving me crazy.

PLEASE ASK ME, THE SELF-PROFESSED NO #1 PAUL CATTERMOLE FAN IN THE SOMETHING AWFUL S-CLUB 7 MEGATHREAD, TO NAME A SINGLE SONG BY HIS EXCELLENT NU-METAL SIDE PROJECT, SKUA, AND IF I CAN'T PLEASE TELL ME TO
EAT SHIT

The F# / G shifting reminds me of Cherub Rock, but honestly a lot of the 'signature moments' (like that low 2nd-4th-root movement) are pretty simple so you'll probably hear them somewhere. What you have is pretty barebones, so if you're worried you're ripping someone off then don't be! It happens all the time, if you've come up with a riff and something similar looms up out of the past, either say gently caress it and make it your own, or build on it until you're happy. If you're just curious about what it's reminding you of, that's cool

Also that sounds a lot like me playing. You're definitely ripping me off

Haha, thank you so much.

I did get a "Smashing Pumpkins" kind of feel out of it, and some friends got a similar sense, but we weren't able to really pin it down. What you wrote makes a lot of sense.

I pretty much assumed this wasn't anything ground-breaking, but where parts seemed to be coming together relatively intuitively I had to find out if I was blatantly ripping someone off to the point where someone could be like "oh hey that's _____". It makes sense that it'd be a familiar feeling since like you say it is pretty simple and minimal.

I'll keep playing around with it. Please don't sue me. :-)

I'm afraid not.

I think the song I'm thinking of is from an old video game.

Sounds like a NES tune, maybe something like Dragon Warrior or Faxanadu. And maybe in reverse.

Ok this is going to be tricky and I appreciate any help anyone can give:

I just got back from Thailand, on the way to the airport we were in the cab with a pretty young guy who was listening to some really cool Thai music

It was kind of like fusion/jazzy/punky and had saxaphone and really psychedelic guitar solos, and traditional style thai singing over the top of it. It was really cool, after trying for ages to ask him who it was (no engrish) allw e got from it was the band was called something like "Mallam Sing" (malam/mullum/i dont know) can anyone help me identify this band? sounded like a kind of young group and the driver was young and seemed kind of trendy so im guessing it's something youngish... or alternatively if you can point me in the direction of some cool underground thai music that would be cool

thanks again for anyone who can solve this dilemma

around and around we go
In Frank Black's "Fiddle Riddle", at the 1:50 mark,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=OiTOHujHHps#t=102s

What song is that piano melody from? The melody just after the flamenco guitar riff is from an old piano tune which kids are often taught. You basically roll your knuckles over the 3 black keys, then hit C# twice (which in Fiddle Riddle, is only hinted at), then roll your knuckles back over 3 black keys and hit the adjacent D# (which is done note for note)

Does anyone know the name of that song?

Okay, I've had this song itching at the back of my mind for a few days now. I can't remember the lyrics at all, but I remember it was on some WoW video from yeaaaars ago. It was heavy rock (?) and was something about radio. I really can't remember, but it was used back in 2006 in most of the WoW videos.

I remember the band was crap, but I'm hoping to dredge this song up from the depths of my mind for nostalgic value.

Edit: I just remembered some lyrics, it was "back to videogame" or something else along those lines.

Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla Radio? There definitely seem to be some WoW videos on Youtube that use it, but then you can probably find a WoW video set to any song ever written.

I don't think RAtM is crap, but it's the first song that comes to mind for "heavy rock" and "radio."

I have a song stuck in my head for a couple of weeks now. Heard it on a radio so it must be somewhat professionally produced. It's a cover of Flo Rida "Wild Ones" with male singer and a lot more downtempo, almost a ballad style. Can't find much on YouTube except lots of home made covers.

So i was at a bar a little while ago and they were playing this music video that was definitely from the 80s where it was a bunch of footage from...some island in the pacific. There were women dancing in grass skirts and coconut bras, but there were also young children smoking what looked like a handrolled cigarette. The song had kind of an island reggae sound, but I can't describe any more than that. Does that ring a bell to anyone?

All David...all the TIME!
I'm making a wedding video for a friend, and there's a song I can't remember that I know the bride and groom would love that I'd like to use in it.

Solo male vocalist with a raspy voice. Very soulfully sung, minimal arrangement with only a guitar.

The lyrics are about growing old together, and there's a repeated line that's like "In xx years, all I want to do... is be (something) with you"... and "when there's nothing left to do... (something something) you."

I can hear it so clearly in my head but I can't come up with anything more solid. It was the most romantic song I'd ever heard, and totally suits a marriage. Any ideas? Thanks goons.

Edit: I think the lyrics might mention "And when I'm one hundred and one", and then "When I'm one hundred and two... something something grow old with you".... or something!

I should totally know this song, but for the life of me, I can't find it.

It's kind of slow and a little whiney, but not in an annoying way. It feels like it's a Nada Surf song, and "Inside of Love" or "Neither Heaven Nor Space" are about the right speed and sound for the song.

The lyrics include a line like:

She don't like the ocean,
But she loves the beach,
Oh yeah,
Ohhh yeah.

Or maybe it's that she doesn't like the ocean, but she loves the coast. I don't know.

Someone suggested Mary Moon, and that's definitely not it.

Thanks for any help.

edit: Found it. Of course, there's nothing about oceans or beacher in the lyrics...

Have a song that plays on the muzak at work and I kinda like it but when I try to google it all I find is one other person who is trying to find it and suggestions for other songs. I think it's called Dear Diary but it's not the one by Pink or Britney Spears, sounds like a younger girl singing it makes me think of Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez, and the only lyrics I know for sure is the beginning of the chorus which goes, "Dear dear dear diary" with 3 dears, and then something like "you're the only one there for me" and "you always know my ups and downs".

Edit: I heard it again and was able to write down some of the lyrics as I heard them and I'm pretty sure the chorus goes "Dear dear dear diary my best friend you're the one that makes me feel free free free" If it helps it was on the Safeway muzak.
