Well I guess I'm going to Tired Hands on Tuesday for dinner then. As for what I'm drinking tonight, I picked up a Shed IPA for IPA day. Yes, I want the badge for Untappd. I've also got a Stillwater Folklore and a Nogne Dark Horizon I'll be splitting with the girlfriend. Edit: Either that or Forest and Main, how is it there? Also do they do flights? Dranked a FSW Union Jack for the badge to go with my spicy pulled beef sandwich, and am currently following it up with a Saison Dupont because I have a non-compete clause for all beers. Delicious stuff.

I wonder if Hop Savant counts as an IPA for celebration and badge purposes? I don't care, popping it anyway I bought a bottle of Ruination as a backup plan just in case and oh my, just found a bottle of BCBS at the back of my fridge. Dare I Black and Tan it, for science? In other news, I found Westbrook in NYC today and picked up a Bearded Farmer #3 and a Gose. Really curious about the Gose but probably won't get to it tonight, anyone had it before? Duck Duck Gooze release information. 7200 bottles made, $45 a bottle (including the fees)/6 bottle limit. Your hopes and dreams of whales are shattered if you were planning to hold onto this; not sure they will sell out particularly quickly at that price and bottle number.

Question: my local watering hole is tapping Cantillion Oude Geuze tomorrow. $13 for a 10oz pour. Is this highway robbery or a good deal? I've never had it and would love to try it, but 13 for a 10oz pour seems a bit steep.

It costs a lot more here and there's bar markup, though.

$13 is a lot for most beers, but not outrageous for Cantillon, and considering both how good and uncommon it is in my neck of the woods, well, i'd do it

It's not outrageous but it's not a great price, though if I'd never had Cantillon gueuze, I'd jump on the chance to try it at that price. Hell, I'd probably splurge on a glass anyway. edit: re: Duck Duck Gooze, hopefully the 7200 bottle thing means that I'll be able to land one without a lot of trouble.

However, everything I've had by them has been pretty solid, so I can't really fault them. Tired Hands, yeah, they're great, but they are really overhyped. Almost every single one of their ipas has the same hop aroma as every other stupidly named IPA they've brewed. That's pretty nice. quote:However, everything I've had by them has been pretty solid, so I can't really fault them. Yeah. Consistently at least "good" across the line and I love more than a couple things they do. And the food's pretty great, especially for a brewpub. I mean, I've been to plenty of restaurants that don't have to worry about making their own beer that have far worse food. Even the bread and butter they put on the table is above the norm. If I lived in Ambler I'd be there at least two or three times a week.

That said I choked down two tasters of Haymarket DIPAs. One had a ton of honey (and honey malt) and one was fiiiine with waay to much Amarillo. I think in general I'm getting over hop bomb double IPAs. They just don't taste as good as they used to and I'm okay with that.

Well for IPA day I had the "S.A.M. IPA" at the 10 Barrel; a beer made by the joint over in Boise that has its name due to having Simcoe, Amarillo and Mosaic hops. I found it to be too bitter for my tastes, but nonetheless drinkable enough. Shoulda just had the Apocalypse, their default IPA; that never goes wrong. Then I went home and had a BIF beer I adopted a greyhound This is a fine RIS, all chocolate and coffee and wonderful. It almost makes me want to go to Northern Alabama sometime.

I'm back from my beer hiatus and got to have my beer in the recovery room after my son was born. I get to rediscover a lot of stuff and have managed to drink a fair few of the things I'd set back. First beer back was Revolution Anti-Hero which was exactly what I needed. Slightly resinous, light cold, very fresh and just a great beer to drink with my boy. Other highlights include the Ranger Creek Small Batch #3. This was a wine barrel aged old ale that seemed to have picked up a bit of brett either from dosing or the barrel. Slight funky nose and a bit of a biscuity character that totally hid the 10%. Slight wine character on the finish, but mostly brett dominated. Looking forward to #4 Pipeworks Orange Truffle Abduction: solid chocolate stout with less orange character than I would have preferred. I think this could have benefited from a touch of lactose, but a solid beer all around. For IPA Day I had a Founders All Day and a Two Brothers Sidekick. I still have the Deschutes Inversion waiting on me for my return home tonight.
