It was a funny spot but it's just a grievance of goons that people new to footy say 'the Spurs' when the 'the' is redundant, that's all.

It's not even the "new to footy thing" as an American (for me at least) not having the "the" there is really unnatural to say/type regardless of whether it's right or not. It's like how bizarre to me it sounds when British people say "yeah I was in hospital for about a week" where's the drat the!?

I think a decent amount of people picked/like Spurs in the states because they made that huge deal with Under Armor, people in the USA love their Under Armor. Even places that aren't Baltimore (where Under Armor is located) which is where I am living right now. Spurs didn't even have a supporters bar and then last year they got one (which it's literally right next door to the Arsenal bar here so that's kind of funny). They went all ape poo poo too and put up these huge vinyl banners outside, etc. It was a lot of fun mocking them on the last day of the season last year, some woman Spurs fan lost her poo poo and was cussing all the Arsenal people out.. like it was a serious thing.

Oh god, please don't tell me Spurs are going to be the "trendy" team for U.S. plastics like me. I started following them back in 2006 (after the dodgy lasagne thing), but if I try telling that to people I'm going to sound like a loving hipster.

I don't know, I've never disliked Under Armor. I do blame them for the sudden increase in Dayglo gear, though.

For example, 'I am driving my brother to the hospital' and miss out the 'the' if we are a patient. Glad I could help explain some of the language you claim to speak.
