I made the mistake of going outside just as the con was ending. A parade of horrors, of men either too fat or too thin, of ginger-haired women visibly struggling with social interaction, erupted like Pandora's Box done bust at the seams, with Hope nowhere to be seen. Some traveled in nerdherds, emboldened by their numbers, geeking loudly on the streets. Others alone, or in small groups, quietly spazzing. One ~20-year-old did about eighty circles, pacing an eight foot diameter loop outside of a Jimmy Johns. I had long since finished my sandwich, but was transfixed. Suddenly he stopped, and I thought 'oh gently caress now he's going to go counterclockwise the same amount.' But no, his friend, with two stuffed ponies on leashes, had arrived, so the circling could stop.

I returned to the room and turned on the TV, only to find a channel playing MLP fan-dubbed music videos.

it hurts

So I found out there is a comicbook series called "Batman Inc."

Which got me thinking, would Batman really want to incorporate? Batman seems more like a "unincorporated association" kinda guy if you ask me.

edit: Also, Robin wouldn't be his "partner" that's far to risky, I'd go with him and Robin being more of a "joint venture" if you get my drift. I mean if Robin fucks up, you don't want to have to be on the hook for his mistakes.

I gave my notice today.

The managing partner smiled and said, "[t]here are things more important than where you work, and being with the one you love is on the top of that list. I will be sad to see you go, but I'm happy for you."

Another partner got choked [up] when I told him I was leaving and thanked him for being a mentor.

This is pretty weird...

I'd recommend that you stop choking the partners. It's not worth the battery charge, and you may need a reference down the road.

A study using past (i.e., pre-2008) history of supposed good economic returns on a J.D. as a means of predicting future returns seems to be the big thing right now. And, even though it has multiple glaring problems, the absolutely terrible people appear to be using it as definitive proof that a law degree is a good investment (and will continue to be).

Courier New is an institution where I work. It was only last year that the US Tax Court allowed pleadings to be filed in anything but Courier New. It was awful.

I'm tax in-house in a big French telecom company.

At the end of my final internship in a french law firm I received an offer that I couldnt refuse from the telco company (better salary, more interesting work, better hours than the law firm I was finishing my internship in). All of my friends are lawyers though, many of them working in american/british lawfirms ;)

It's a good thing studies don't cost much in France, because the pay is really low compared with US salaries. I net around 4k euros (monthly after tax and employer/employee social contributions) and that's pretty good in France. Most of my freshly graduated friends (the ones who found a job...no jobs) make between 2 and 3k. So hopefully, there is no bigass loan to reimburse because that would simply be unbearable.

Rents in Paris vary between 1k for a 1 bedroom to 2k for a 2bedroom.

I'm not an Australian lawyer (but I live in Aus) and I can confirm this is true for Australian lawyers as well; the top law firms here pay new lawyers around $70k (pre-tax), and that amount doesn't increase very quickly. On the other hand, all Aussie student loan debt is interest-free (though indexed to inflation), and you only have to pay back a percentage of your income over $50k (also indexed to inflation) - so essentially every Aussie has a loan repayment assistance program similar to what a few law schools in the US have.

This is awful, but sometimes I just go into the CSO when I'm feeling bad because I want to pick a fight with someone and scream at them about how incompetent they are. Of course, this could have negative consequences for me, but I doubt it because I only started doing so after I realized they couldn't offer me any substantive advice (and post 2L OCI). So, their usefulness in career advising is over, but they are still an outlet for my rage. I really need that outlet and they need to earn their income by dealing with difficult students. Really, I'm just helping them build their people-skills, they ought to be thanking me.
