So, my gf just posted some ee card meme about welfare. It says "Uncle Sam is NOT your baby's daddy. Work for it!" And there's an old-timey school marm lookin lady on it. Almost immediately, a lady posts this:some lady posted:Unpleasant assumption that every mother using welfare to help raise her children is lazy, not working, and yes - let's wait for it - black. Sorry. Not buying it. So, putting aside that I think memes are dumb in general, does this lady have a point? Is it dog-whistle racism? I don't really agree with any of her points. Is there something I'm missing? Even if I am wrong, I think posting "yes - let's wait for it -" qualifies her as a smug idiot.

So yes, her response was not worded to start a dialogue. Your girlfriend, who has probably just absorbed the institutionalized racism inherent in American culture and who does not see herself as racist, will be angry and hurt and will probably post about how she has black friends.
