I used to enjoy some mmos back in the day but haven't had a pc in forever. I guess I'm wondering if it is one that you have to be grindy on to enjoy, or is it fun at all levels? I don't have time to dedicate these days. Also matters how much it is a month.

Of what I've played of the beta its pretty fun at all levels with relatively fast leveling and includes a group-finder for doing dungeons and raid content and the whole game has been redesigned to revolve around smaller parties. You also only need one character since you can be every class and starting stats are irrelevant. If you like MMOs and you like he FFV style job system (main class you get all the abilities and then you can slap on some skills from other classes in limited slots) you'll like FFXIV.

Is there a reason to get FFV Android version if you've played the GBA version? Are there any new features? Because I want to replay the game yet I've played FFV GBA at least three or four times over.

Diagonal walking and giant Amano character portraits versus a number of modifications to bosses to make them less hilariously vulnerable to status ailments, if it's the same as the iOS.

Diagonal walking is crap, don't listen to him. The levels are still arranged the same way, making trap tiles harder to avoid, and you can only move at 45 degree angles.

Also, I think the Amano portraits look bad. :colbert:

I was mainly referring to Bartz's portrait, which looks nothing remotely like him. Neither does Faris', but that's at least consistent with the other versions of the game. :v:

Uggh. I don't mind the art (rather, the touching up of the Amano stuff)...kinda. Honestly, I prefer the GBA version, with a tiny little portrait appearing in the corner rather than the big head and shoulders that doesn't fit into the text box; I think the GBA one is neater.

The sprites are pretty ugly looking, I agree. It's been said many times before, but it has that amateurish RPG maker sorta style to it. It lacks charm somewhat.

Amano's Bartz is weird. There's generally a lot of changes between Amano designs and sprites, but Bartz is probably one of the more noticable, considering that Amano insists of giving him white hair still, while all the sprites (and even Dissidia) gave him brown hair.

The Amano art is definitely a big positive. But I'm not sure if "minor boss tweaks" is enough for a buy. I was thinking they may have added more content maybe.

I love Amano's artwork and the FF6 portraits, and I agree. They're weirdly out of place in the textblocks, and FF5 has the most jarring gulf between Amano's art and the sprites.

It's the kind of "enhancement" that doesn't actually make the game look better at all.

Aren't the only FF5 mobile (at least iOS) battle changes that Sap is battle tick, not real time based and Beastmaster's Calm works as intended?

Normally I love Amano's art, but his FF5 ones don't really work for me, besides Galuf of course. The rest of the cast look rather samey.

That said, I wouldn't object to a FF6 port with Amano portraits, as those are distinct and mostly match the in-game characters, plus I think they look great. Just don't use the Dimensions-style sprites anymore, please.

Apparently Omniscient can't be berserked anymore. Or Shinryu. There's a couple of other things too.

Sounds like it's Elia's theme from FF3, albeit done differently. Couldn't find a Youtube link of the NES version, so here's the Tindeck link I had.

e: Listening to the other links, I'm surprised at the effort they've made in redoing the music. And yet most of it is still worse than the originals.

I've only managed to get past the Narshe three party fight, but here's what I've read and experienced so far.

Playing this on a modded PSP is iffy at best, my system refused to update it's save file so I lost from Vargas to Narshe for no reason. Playing on a tablet emulator or PC is my recommendation.

Espers (and as such, spells) are limited to certain characters. (Relm is the only one who can learn Ultima, if memory serves.) Vanish/Doom no longer works.

Level cap is 50. Stats are mainly gained from Espers so the WoB is mainly a low level challenge.

Most of the stats actually mean something now.

DON'T ATTACK THE SHELL! Seriously.

Equipment often has other mods besides attack and defense. Some weapons can be innately dual wielded (Locke with daggers), no Genji Glove required. By same token, some weapons are two handed by default and so gain extra damage (Edgar's spears) without a Gauntlet.

Cyan's SwdTech/Bushido is usable now, charge times are vastly reduced.

Blitzes have added effects, usually. Yes, Suplex works on fliers and Bosses (Suplex Kefka in the Narshe fight? Sure!).

Bosses have added health, though status effects may work on them now.

Dying now sends you back to title, and any XP gained since last save is lost.

Edgar's discount at Figaro is gone.

From personal experience, expect to die frequently at Vargas and at Lete River (a single Fireball from an Albatross will kill Banon unless he's defending).

It's worth a play. I'm the wrong guy to ask about the new dialogue as I actually like it, which makes me probably the only goon who does.

The list of changes is really long. There are changes to who can equip what Esper, changes to skills, and some other mechanical changes. Some are cool and some are infinitely stupid. ("You can't steal from anything but humans because it isn't realistic.")

Why even mess with FF6? Part of the fun of that game was just how broken it was. Give everyone Economizers and Life 2 and Ultima? Go hog wild!

All that poo poo takes forever to grind anyways, so the game's difficulty or ease depends a lot on how much time you're willing to throw away.

Job System.

Oct 28, 2010

Yeah, International Zodiac Job System is the way to go. It makes you specialise your characters, so you don't end up with six interchangeable ones. There are various tweaks and improvements, such as removing the ridiculous requirements for getting the Zodiac spear (including not opening certain chests at the beginning of the game), and most importantly, there's now a speed-up button that makes the game run three times as fast.

Are you using gpSP? For some reason, the latest version is set to only update the save file when you exit the emulator for some reason. If you turn off the PSP you just lose progress. There's an option to set it to auto-update like you'd expect it to do in the first place under emulator options. The option is called "update backup". I lost a ton of progress in FFV because of this.

If that's not the problem then I have no idea what's wrong.
