darthbob88 posted:Actually, it could depending on which breed of libertarianism they're subscribing to. I've seen a few libertarians who supported labor's right to organize, and read an essay proposing a universal basic income in order to break the chains of wage slavery. There are libertarians who support aid to poor people, they're just drowned out by the FYGM Randroids. Yeah, people forget that until the 1970s or so 'libertarian' just meant anti-authoritarian, and there are actual philosophies called 'libertarian socialism' and 'libertarian communism'. The term didn't assume its modern meaning until relatively recently - and the only reason it did was due to active efforts by the FYGM types to highjack the word. These days lib-soc/lib-com people generally call themselves 'anarchists' or some variation on that word, but a few are actively trying to take back the word 'libertarian'. During the Spanish Revolution, people shouted 'long live the libertarian revolution!' and talked about building a 'libertarian society' as they collectivized the means of production and organized farming towns into communes, all under the umbrella of a radical labor union. If you had suggested to them that 'libertarian' meant 'capitalist', or that libertarianism was even compatible with capitalism, they would have called you crazy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism Mister Bates fucked around with this message at 05:03 on Aug 19, 2013 |

Bloomberg ran for office as a Republican twice, and then as an independent once on the Republican ballot line. This is something you can find out by literally reading the first two paragraphs of his Wikipedia page. He's hardly a progressive just because he likes regulating soft drink sizes.

So I finally have something to share; Subject: State With No Republicans...... Read to the end......no statement is so true as the statement in bold black at the very end. There is a State With No Republicans...... Glory, Glory Hallelujah ... A Wonderful State with ZERO Republicans (NOT A SOUL TO BLAME BUT THEMSELVES FOR ALL THEIR WONDERFULNESS...) TRULY A DEMOCRATS PARADISE! Now, Consider This: There are more people on Welfare in Illinois than there are people working. Chicago pays the highest wages to teachers than anywhere else in the U.S. averaging $110,000/year. Their pensions average 80-90% of their income. You can't blame that on republicans because there aren't any. Wow, are Illinois and Chicago great or what? Be sure to read till the end. I've never heard it explained better. Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago? Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago. 221 killed in Iraq AND Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in the entire US. . Here's the Chicago chain of command: . President: Barack Hussein Obama . Senator: Dick Durbin . House Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr. . Governor: Pat Quinn . House leader: Mike Madigan . Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike) . Mayor: Rohm Emanuel . The leadership in Illinois - all Democrats. . Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago . Of course, they're all blaming each other. . Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any! . Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any! . State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any! . Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any! . This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois . And he is going to 'fix' Washington politics for us??? . George Ryan is no longer Governor; he is in the big house.. Of course he was replaced by Rob Blajegovitch who is...that's right, also in the big house . And Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned a couple of weeks ago. That is because he is fighting being sent to...that's right, the big house. . The Land of Lincoln, where our governors make our license plates. But you know what? As long as they keep providing entitlements to the population of Chicago, nothing is going to change, except the state will go broke before the country does. "Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." — feeling alone. I am almost positve there was one similar to this in this thread earlier but using California instead of Illinois. I seem to remember that one was using everyone on any sort of aid including SNAP and Social Security. Does anyone have a good rebuttal for this?

"Republicans cannot take credit for providing good wages for one of the most important professions in all of society. " Sounds about right. Also, not a forwarded thing but I saw this screed posted on my facebook feed: quote:I’ve got a little tirade to go on about the media hoopla about the people taking offense to the Washington Redskins team name. First, I want to point out the difference between, denotation and connotation. Denotation is the literal definition of the word, while connotation is the emotional meaning of the word. For example, if I were to say the word President, about fifty percent of you would have a negative feeling, while the other fifty percent would have a positive feeling. Not saying one side is wrong for having a feeling evoked, but what I am saying is that is absolutely absurd to argue to change or remove any word because of how it makes you feel. Many words we use today, albeit, probably incorrectly, derived from some other meaning; however, the connotation of those words have evolved over the years. On to the Media, amidst most of agenda pushing babble, I have seen no trace of journalism. Stop selling me your agenda and report the facts. You can’t roll a piece of crap in powder sugar and sell it as a jelly donut. Also, if you do not want to use the word REDSKINS in your publications, so be it. But don’t tell me about it, I don’t need to know, and I will treat you with the same respect when I decide not to read your column or agenda pushing crap. Also, I will also point out, you refusing to use a word hurts nobody, and is a blatant grab at notoriety. You aren’t a child of the world; you’re just full of crap. “Journalist” are embarrassing and disrespecting the generations of real journalist before them by making a mockery of the profession. It’s no wonder your medium is dying. Well now that’s out there, and some of you may read this and say he is pushing an agenda. That’s right, I am, but I am not on a platform calling my tirade news. While laced with facts it is merely an expression of my frustration (and no one is paying me or calling me a journalist). Let’s go REDSKINS.

How did Chicago become a lawless warzone in the eyes of conservatives? Its per-capita homicide rate is only the 16th highest among large cities in the US. It is almost like the narrative of Chicago as the MURDER CAPITAL of America is an attempt to otherize Obama and to impugn local efforts at gun control regardless of evidence.
