edit: I should probably stop talking about this in this thread. The Road Less TraveledAE-35 Unit posted:That's what bugs me about Firefox's (as well as Chrome's) versioning. I was always taught that major releases are meant for the big numbers but minor feature and bug fix releases don't. Unless Firefox and Chrome have changed their architecture significantly 23 and 29 times, respectively, then their versioning is silly. That's not really set in stone. Sometimes major version number bumps mean that API/ABI breaks entirely. Sometimes they mean new features. There were two big motivations behind a major-only version number scheme. The Firefox security team wants people to update Firefox versions as soon as possible; some users think they can delay minor version upgrades until the next major version. Firefox 4 was originally called 3.7 until telemetry data showed that Firefox 3.0/3.5 were still in widespread use, even though they were three or four years old. Rebranding to Firefox 4 showed a strong improvement in dropoff rates, and a significant portion of the 3.0/3.5 users upgraded to Firefox 4. The security team suggested using major-only versions as a consequence. The Firefox support team figured out that having people say "I'm using Firefox 22" is easier than "I'm using Firefox 5.6-r4357" or similar. Users using Firefox 3.5/3.6 would leave that unspecified and say "I'm using Firefox 3" instead. They also release versions using a tiered structure: Firefox Nightly is updated every night and contains potentially unstable, potentially broken features. Features may get introduced in Firefox Nightly and backed out on a regular basis. Firefox Aurora is updated on a weekly basis and is where features are landed that need widespread testing and development work, but are stable enough to not be backed out. After a feature goes through Aurora, it's finally landed in the stable branch. It's more like a train schedule than anything else. Instead of sitting down and working on a feature for Firefox 16, a feature lands when it's ready, and is guaranteed to get to users in a month and a half, max. See some of the release notes for details of what goes into every release.

If they were driven by people who're technically talented, I'd expect them to know a thing or two about UI design and not actively make their own interfaces worse with every loving iteration, that's really what bothers me the most about everything Google, constantly making their own UI's less usable with no options for the user to use an older version. And some of their top crowd come across as slightly unhinged. http://arstechnica.com/business/2013/05/larry-page-wants-you-to-stop-worrying-and-let-him-fix-the-world/

That Slenderman game was surprisingly technically competent compared to the others that have been reviewed, except for the car and ladder looking all shiny and coated like glazed donuts. It did a better job at atmosphere than Cry of Fear, but that's not really saying very much.

I just realized that I've become so used to the shittiness of these games that I was about to praise this one for being vaguely less poo poo than the rest, by which I mean that their Slenderman seemed a bit less lazily stapled together. Also since Shmorky can't stop thinking about Slenderman's junk, I forget whether anyone brought up that there's a Slenderman porno novel out there yet. Slenderbone.

Even though he was suffering from some unfortunate square-mouth syndrome I gotta give flashlight some props for making slumberman a hugely tall monster instead of a 6'4" guy in a suit. Catching a bit of his weird arms in silhouette against the sky is pretty neat (the first time it happens). Also piecraft is just one of the tutorials that came with gamemaker back in 2004 with (some of) the sprites swapped
