So do I, but as far as I could tell, not to take anything away from mr Hardwick who did a pretty good job, it was less about interviewing skills and more about mr. Hanks being in a _REALLY_GREAT_MOOD!_, and even blabbing about awesome, everyday man stuff like binging on Storage Wars episodes like the rest of us commoners.

The GURM episode emphasized my two major problems with Chris. He doesn't really lead or control the interview very well, and he is not really willing to ask hard questions.

Like it or not, this is the intentional design of the show. He doesn't want to control the interview (because it's not an interview, it's a freeform chat) and he doesn't want to ask hard questions for the same reason.

Yeah I don't know what part of the about how he continually tells guests it is a free form talk rather than an interview is so hard to grasp.

You guys come in expecting James Lipton's level of interviews and that just isn't what this show has ever been.

Sometimes it just works better than others. Maybe it is worse when the guest is treating it like a normal interview and Chris has to control the conversation and ask more questions? I dunno.

Yea I'm a big GoT nerd and I enjoyed hearing just one drat interview that wasn't filled with "HEY THIS THING YOU'VE SAID COUNTLESS TIMES, PLEASE SAY IT AGAIN" and "ANY SPOILERS FOR WINDS OF WINTER?!"

The Michael C. Hall episode saved this for me. When Chris doesn't have chemistry with his guests the show is quite boring. Some people like the hostfuls, they loving blow. Jonah is just an insufferable oval office pure and simple. The best episodes are Chris and Matt with a good guest. Also I agree on the music episodes they are some of the worst. I don't watch any of his other shows on actual TV so I can't comment on that.

The Jimmy Carr episode has renewed my faith in this show, especially the parts where Carr starts to beat up on the sidekicks. Heck, even before he got there, when they hosts were messing around and filling time, it was entertaining.

Well, I mean, I've been a huge fan of hers since BSG started, but I hadn't seen many interviews with her or anything.

On the one hand, I like Sackhoff a lot more than I like Michelle Rodriguez, but having a PoC actress getting more work is never bad.

No kidding, she was absolutely a perfect fit. It's not just that she's Starbuck, but that she and Chris and Jonah kept bouncing crap back and forth and it was amazing. God, why can't they all be like that? I haven't listened to any since Jimmy Carr was on because none of the guests interested me at all. Did I miss anything really good in there? I know it's usually a fan's duty to listen to everything, but when they do 3 a week it's a little harder.

edit: Scratch that, I just realized I missed a half-dozen comedians (Hader, Pepitone, Braunohler) and those are always good. Yikes!

I've listened to the Dr. No and From Russia With Love episode's of the Janes Bonding podcast, and I absolutely love it. Matt and Matt are a good team; it's neat when they riff together and exchange interesting facts about the films. I die every time I hear the James Bond theme song now.

James Bonding is great. I recently got into You Made it Weird too, and listened to the episode with Matt and quite enjoyed it.

I like the Nerdist a lot. I think they tend to be stronger interviews when it's either Matt or Jonah rather than both of them although the hostfuls are pretty solid. I'm not a huge fan of the solo interviews as it ends up being a more traditional interview.

At the end of the day it's a free podcast out of a bunch I listen to that at worst is just air filler on my commute and at best makes me laugh so hard I have to stop on a run.

I would like to see more Chloe on the podcast but I think Chris is probably making a conscious decision to avoid seeming nepotistic. That ties in to my biggest complain which is when they get bogged down in talking about people talking poo poo to them in comments or twitter. I'm sure it's awful and dumb but they don't need to give it attention.

I think aside from nepotism, I think Chris is very aware that it could make things super-awkward if she became a part of the podcast and they subsequently broke it off. I mean, I know she's been on before, but never as a regular.

This is one of the reasons I stopped listening to the podcast. Every minor mention of Twitter or other comments by a guest would be an automatic derail. Hardwick just has the thinnest skin.

I have been enjoying James Bonding for the most part. I'm a big Bond fan, and the first episode with PFT had me crying with laughter. The latest episode was a disappointment however. When the hosts are begging the listeners not to leave negative comments about an episode as they're recording it, something's gone wrong. It's like Chris's defensiveness rubs off on the people who work with him.

Yannick_B

I really like James Bonding too, but that last episode was just too much of a chore. It was the opposite of the premise;
two people who fuckin LOVE James Bond minutia and taking the movies apart talking with people who hated the very idea of the movie.
Next time on James Bonding: we watch Casino Royale with someone who hates captured images and sound!

Paragon8
Feb 19, 2007

We're probably just spoiled by how great they've been so far. Emily and Jonah really showed how a James Bond novice can still be quite an interesting guest. I think the dynamic might have been thrown a bit by having two guests at the same time who were both unfamiliar with the source material.

Here's hoping we get a few more great guests.
