Make sure you know EIGRP, OSPF, access lists, VTP and STP inside and out. Other than that, just more of the same really.

I passed the 640-802 today, jesus that's a load off. I've been stressing this test all summer. Now I "only" need to find a secure and local entry-level job that lets me apply what I know and learn more without sacrificing the cushy health and dental of my dead-end government job. Shouldn't be too hard right?

So as mentioned my test for 70-642 is on Thursday and now I am scared as poo poo. Guy I am in class with took his today in Tulsa. We live in OKC. No testing is available until Sept but anyway. Teacher in class says if we can do the Transcender we should be decent on the real thing. Transcender even has a pass guarantee that they will refund if not passed (school pays through vouchers so whatever). The guy in class scored a 380 and says that questions started touching on poo poo that the test scenarios never ventured in to. He also thinks he was given the wrong test as the title at the front was TS: Windows Server 2008 and not Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring. So I am seeing a few possibilities here. He was given the wrong test...how likely is that? He registered the wrong test, very possible, He didnt study right/properly or cover the material better. Something is telling me he possibly didn't take the test in such a way that he went through the entire bank of questions. When I do the practice I make sure not to take the "random A B C or D" test as I seemed to see the same questions pop up. I configured it to delete correct answers and take the totally random test option and made sure I have exhausted the bank multiple times. I review every instance of taking my practice by going over the answers be it right or wrong. Anyone else taken this test at a Prometric testing place (or franchise or whatever) and remember if the name of the test was different than the cert?

It really sounds like he signed up for the wrong test. There are two TS: Windows Server 2008 exams. One is Network Infrastructure, Configuring (70-642) and the other is Active Directory, Configuring (70-640).

Hrm, so weird how he texted me the name of what it was over SMS. He swears the test number was correct. Will find out more tomorrow and will see if I also crash and burn on Thursday.

Why is it that creating a Juniper simulation lab is so hard? I just want to test out the basics, and I have to go through hacking together my own drat FreeBSD box and after 2 hours it's still not working right. Can't there just be something like GNS3 for Juniper? Sigh.

Failed 70-680 with a 680. I was doing pretty well until I got hit with a bunch of IPv6 stuff. I made the mistake of glossing over the networking chapter since I have my CCNA. Now I have an afternoon in Seattle, where's this legal weed?

Is the Michael Jang book the go-to resource for RHCSA? Any others you'd recommend?

The Jang book is the best, just skip the first two chapters. Also you'll get the RHCE just in time for it to become obsolete when they release RHEL 7

Welp. Failed 70-642 with a 500. gently caress you college. gently caress you Microsoft and gently caress you transcender and your goddamn pass guarantee. I got the right test in the context of questions but poo poo in there was asked in ways not covered in the practice or in the book. Thank you prometric for asking about port numbers not even loving printed in the loving 6421b book. Christ I am livid.

Sorry dude. Microsoft really upped their game from the 2003 era tests. These are some real motherfuckers to pass. I'm taking the 647 for the 3rd time soon which I've NEVER had to do.

The books are bad, tend to get published once early on in the tests life cycle and then never updated. The tests are constantly being updated. I know they almost changed completely when R2 was released. On the bright side you have a good idea of what you need to study up on now.

I had to take the 642 twice. I basically bombed the configuring network access portion of it since I've never used it at work. (No one uses that poo poo in the real world!) I was pretty weak in the new file/print services stuff as well. Scored a 612 the first time. I got through the 640 and 643 on the first try though. I have a 2003 MCSE and got through all those on the first try as well, the 642 was the first MS test I ever failed until the 647 which I've taken twice. The first time I got a 682 which is exactly 1 question off. The second time I missed by 2 questions. I have to take that test again soon and I'm hell bent on beating the poo poo out of that test.

I don't even know where to start. The book and practices only got me to 500. Better than a half fail at 350 I guess. But retreading that info would not do me well. Should I peruse a different book/author? What would be recommended?

What areas were you weak in? What concepts did you have trouble understanding? I'm not a huge fan of the books to be honest, I find they never go into enough detail.

Has anyone done anything with MobileIron University or anything around it? I may be getting tossed a class and cert attempt and was curious how close the testing matched the class or if there would be additional/augmented studying for it? New tech intros like this are driving me batty. All I want to do is keep knuckling down for my CCIE lab but new tech is too much of a shiny object!

Dilbert As gently caress posted:So I know some College classes are starting, any updates on that Stanely ICM class? Yeah, it's up and running now. Self paced, fairly mundane. It's basically a set of exercises you do in a virtual lab according to slides and a book that you should buy but I guess you don't have to. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this to someone who wasn't already somewhat familiar with vSphere, but as a means to knock out your cheap VCP classroom prereq. it's pretty decent. The lab machines are super slow

I've went back and forth with his book and the Self-paced. It is good book to augment. I would recommend signing up for safari books as you're going to get pretty much all the good books in addition to the MS ones. The MS books provide examples to lab out with and they walk you though each step. incoherent fucked around with this message at 21:17 on Aug 23, 2013 |
