I did. It felt a little too stretched thin for jokes. Like, a lot of them were good, but I guess due to the extended length of the episode, there were just so many that a lot of them were misses. Also, I haven't watched P&F in a while, but have they started doing a lot more songs recently? Because this episode had a lot of songs, which is I guess because it's a special, but some of them were kinda bad and really could have just been replaced by normal background music.

Overall it's still a good episode though. Major Monogram trying to imitate Nick Fury was a pretty great gag. Also there's a fight scene where a powerless Thor and Hulk ride a skateboard and tricycle around, so really, how can you beat that?

From the AV Club review and comments I learned that Perry got called Howard the Duck. So yeah, pretty awesome. I'm sure it'll be on Netflix soon enough.

I'm watching the Phineas and Ferb Marvel crossover right now, in fact, and it's great.

Best jokes:

Major Monogram reasons that because one Nick-Fury-esque eyepatch is cool, two must be BETTER.

Yes, Perry is mistaken for Howard the Duck.

Candace is kicked out of Phineas and Ferb's lab--called S.H.E.D.--and sadly departs to the tune of the Hulk theme.

Obligatory Stan Lee cameo.

"Weirdos! It's worse than Portland!"

Doof teasing Red Skull about his accent, and suggesting he should see a speech pathologist or dialect coach.

I realise that the majority of posters don't have young kids, so may not get what I'm saying. But:

gently caress Waybuloo.

Leaving aside the fact that it's thinly veiled Eastern/New Age Mystical propaganda ("We'll do x AFTER Yogao" x 3-4 times every episode...Yogo of course being meditation and floating at the time crystals align), the characters don't speak properly.

There is also no coherent story, objectives, structure or narrative.

With other shows, my son and daughter can tell me "Postman Pat" went to do x or accomplish y. Character a was after b. Character c was sad because of d. x,y and z happened.

Watching Waybuyloo however makes me feel as airheaded as the drat characters.

And In the Night Garden is disturbing when you think about it :)

So I finally got around to watching the new Teen Titans Go! cartoon and holy hell, it's amazing. "Poisoned" a property? This property was poo poo from the second some dickhole in the 50's decided that a novelty EP of squeaky-voiced pop covers would be funny. (I liked the series as a kid too, but it's one of those things that does not hold up in any way as you age. You just wind up pissed at yourself for being a stupid kid.)

That said: Against all logic or reason, the current trilogy of films has made more than $1 billion worldwide...still based on the concept of squealing animals "singing" pop hits. And that's just box office gross! Factor in broadcast rights, home media sales and merchandising and you're looking at an even more sizable chunk of changes. If some wack-rear end CGI television series can capture even a hair of those profits, well, it's probably a worthwhile investment.

He's done some comics that aren't bad but I suppose that's a slightly different thing. I flipped though the Spumco comic book and while it wasn't really funny it was pretty good cartooning.

The thing with John K is he's just such a creepy rear end in a top hat that it's hard to even like his good stuff. Like even you can overcome how creepy he is, you still have the fact that he has a bullheaded, dumb, limiting outlook on his own medium. Early Ren and Stimpy is really good but just, ugh, gently caress that guy.

On a completely unrelated note, tonight's Gumball was pretty weird. this season in general has been indicating that the show is really hitting it's stride.

I actually like both, for different reasons. TT:G is just really manic, and fun. Everyone is amped up to 11.

There were some really neat adventures, and long stories in the original Teen Titans. I loved the Brotherhood of Evil and Doom Patrol stuff they did. I dug all the stuff with Slade. I enjoyed that it could be serious, as well as funny.

I like my long stories, that span a few episodes or a season.

Here's a well-rounded takedown of John K. from one of my all-time favorite front page articles. Not only does it touch on his creepiness, but it also mentions that he had a business idea (pretty much Newgrounds) that never came to fruition for him.

Teen Titans Go is crazy awesome, I've loved every episode so far save for "Super Robin"

The one with Terra the other day was excellent. Loved that no one figured out what was going on till the very end, and then they started ragging on Beast Boy for having no redeeming qualities. Great nod to the BB/Raven shipping, I remember how huge that pairing was back when the original show was airing.

Yeah, in the late 90s he had a website, spumco.net, where he put up his art and had some flash cartoons. I don't remember there being a paywall or advertising though, so I'm not sure how good of a business idea it was in the first place.

"The New Adventures Of Mighty Mouse." While technically it was listed as Ralph Bakshi's work, John K was the real driving force for the series.

But that's about it. He's had his head up his aesthetic for a long while now.
