Both of you, shut up. Goddamn. Keraino joins us at a mere L1, but that's okay. Even if she's not doing much damage, she can abuse Electro-Whip just like her sisters, and to be honest, the fact that she's here now is far more important than how much she'll be contributing to the team. Why do I feel the urge to break into a bout of megalomaniacal laughter right now? One more item of note. Gaia served us well last chapter, but we have bigger designs for him to fill. You may remember the Black Luster Ritual that we got from Chapter 16, and Gaia is the first of two monsters that can make use of it. So say farewell to Gaia - it's time he got a promotion. If it wasn't obvious yet, using a ritual on a monster almost always results in a huge upgrade, and Black Luster Soldier is no different. Looking solely at stats, he's gotten a 700 point jump across the board, and doubled his AP to 4. I don't remember his ability layout, but I believe it's very similar to Gaia's, which is Field and Road-Adept - not fantastic, but it'll do. BLS is basically one of the best warrior monsters. His attack looks pretty cool too, from what I can remember. So this is it: The final vote of the campaign. I'm not going to waste time with overly complicated moves that don't really accomplish anything like putting Labyrinth Tank on Espa's team so Tristan can get Neck Hunter which lets Bakura get The Illusory Gentleman. If you have a pet choice, you can throw it out for consideration and I'll see what I can do if it gets any traction, but you may only submit one such change (feel free to back as many of them as you wish). These votes, however, are mandatory: - Seven or Eight marshals? If eight, choose one of Mako, Fizdis, and Shimon. - Choose who is getting the Black Luster Soldier. I do not intend to stop breaking this game over my knee now that we're at endgame. - If the answer to the above is not Yugi, choose a monster to fill out Yugi's team. Take note, people. If a game gives you overpowered stuff, use it! Pet peeve? I don’t know what you’re talking about. Yugi Dark Magician - 1855 HP, 4559/3654 (Book of Secret Arts), 6 AP, Night Dark Magician Girl - 1665 HP, 4103/3301 (Book of Secret Arts), 6 AP, Night, L4 Magic Espa Roba Giant Mech-Soldier - 1485 HP, 2537/2676, 3 AP, Road Beta the Magnet Warrior - 921 HP, 1904/1805, 2 AP, Road Fortress Whale - 1747 HP, 3270/3098, 3 AP, Water Joey Panther Warrior - 1649 HP, 3683/2788 (Legendary Sword), 6 AP, Field Red-Eyes Black Metal - 2163 HP, 3402/2991, 6 AP, Road Flame Swordsman - 1358 HP, 3573/2868 (Legendary Sword), 4 AP, Field, Castle Tristan Suijin - 1675 HP, 3291/2695 (Silver Bow and Arrow), 2 AP Labyrinth Tank - 1790 HP, 3356/3369, 3 AP, Castle Swordsman from a Foreign Land - 1227 HP, 2957/1986 (2x Legendary Sword), 6 AP, Road, Castle Bakura Ansatsu - 1280 HP, 3136/2170 (Legendary Sword), 6 AP, Castle Man-Eater Bug - 1174 HP, 3134/2264 (2x Beast Fangs), 6 AP, Forest, Swift Neck Hunter - 1535 HP, 3489/3097 (Black Pendant), 6 AP, Night Mai Harpie Lady (Keraino) - 780 HP, 1800/1400 (Cyber Shield, Electro Whip), 4 AP Harpie Lady (Airo) - 1491 HP, 3328/2960 (Cyber Shield, Electro Whip), 8 AP Harpie Lady (Ocupete) - 1593 HP, 3558/3149 (Cyber Shield, Electro Whip), 9 AP Tea Sanga of the Thunder - 1609 HP, 3632/2734 (Silver Bow and Arrow), 3 AP Dancing Elf - 1182 HP, 1535/1448, 7 AP Dark Elf - 1425 HP, 3502/1798 (Book of Secret Arts), 5 AP, Night Monster Reserves Celtic Guardian - 988 HP, 1816/1600, 4 AP, Road-Adept, Green Orb Robotic Knight - 1356 HP, 2222/2394, 3 AP, Dark Purple Orb The Illusory Gentleman - 1553 HP, 3116/3240, 7 AP, Night, Yellow Orb Blackland Fire Dragon - 1492 HP, 2857/2187, 5 AP, Night, Gray Orb Summoned Skull - 1657 HP, 3122/1812, 2 AP, Night, Blue Orb Kuriboh - 807 HP, 4293/1198 (3x Multiply), 4 AP, Night, Lucky, Purple Orb Millennium Golem - 1300 HP, 2000/2200, 2 AP, Yellow Orb Machine King - 1300 HP, 2200/2000, 2 AP, Blue Orb Curse of Dragon - 1492 HP, 2847/2362, 3 AP, Mountain Black Luster Soldier - See above All choices as a result of this vote are final and will be used until the end of Yugi's Campaign. So wait a minute, so you have no objections to game-breaking now? Well now, if that's the case, I'd have... Yugi Dark Magician Dark Magician Girl Dark Magician #2 (you didn't want this before because of OPness, right? But now you don't mind, right?) Espa Roba Curse of Dragon (or his Mech Soldier if Curse of Dragon has no more fusion partners). Beta the Magnet Warrior Fortress Whale Joey Panther Warrior Red-Eyes Black Metal Black Luster Soldier Tristan Suijin Labyrinth Tank Flame Swordsman Bakura Ansatsu Man-Eater Bug Neck Hunter Mai Harpie Lady (Keraino) Harpie Lady (Airo) Harpie Lady (Ocupete) Tea Sanga of the Thunder Dancing Elf Dark Elf So what do you think?

7 Marshals! We don't need Mako, and the other 2 don't matter. Give Kuriboh to Yugi. Take him to the end. I don't really care who gets BLS. Break this game for us. It should be beautiful! Oh please let Kuriboh get the last hit in this run

Seven marshals. Yugi should get Black Luster Soldier because Kuriboh just won't cut it anymore. I'm guessing no monsters because we aren't getting to vote after this stage and I'm guessing this is the reason.

As things stand right now, we're only using seven marshals, with Yugi getting the Black Luster Soldier, but I'll leave voting open until later tonight, probably ~8 hours or so from now.Hyperman1992 posted:I'm just curious. He's very similar to Espa Roba in that he can get the job done, but it's going to take him several rounds to do it and you would be better off giving the experience to someone who can contribute more to the team. That said, if Mako did get voted in somehow (it's 7-2 in favor of ignoring him, for the record) I would switch some teams around and he would probably end up with a team that looked something like Suijin/Fortress Whale/Octoberser. And yes, that is way too large of a selection. Marks should be roughly the size of one of the city indicators. Gensuki posted:Yugi wants the Black Luster Soldier. He needs something that can't miss. Considered hallowed ground to the Imperial Order, the Temple of Ishtar is veiled in mystery. Yugi and his friends head to the temple, hot on Scott's heels. Nothing new that wasn't in the vote, Yugi and Mai both take their place as shitwrecker supreme. As if there was any doubt. We're dumped straight into things, so no exposition this time. After the size and complexity of last map, this one is surprisingly straightforward. There are only five enemy marshals including the boss, and a pair of towns for us to grab on our way there. Espa and Tea are headed for Ishtar Gate in the center, as all the fighting is going to be taking place there, while Tristan and Mai go for Home Land in the south. The grunts come in two varieties, and this first one is essentially labeled with "For Espa." While they are packing a decent amount of AP, none of them are particularly strong and there are no surprises. Fairy's Gift is the only notable one, and that's only because she is one of two or three monsters in the entire game capable of healing. She eventually gets a special that's basically the equivalent of a Blue Medicine for the entire party. It cannot be overstated how good this makes her. It should also be noted that Fairy’s Gift has plenty of AP with which to use that special. She has five already! The fact that she doesn't have said special yet doesn't stop me from going after her first out of instinct. At L25, Sanga's attack becomes effective against machines. We're getting closer to having him be moderately useful, though his AP is still a big sticking point. Now here's the other team. These guys are tailor-made for Tea, assuming you've stuck with her theme even loosely. All three of their monsters have a Power of Nature, which gives an attack boost and 1 AP to every fairy on the field when it's used. Because using items only takes 1 AP itself, this functionally can give the team infinite AP and crank up their ATK to ridiculous amounts at the same time. Against a surprising number of teams, this can be devastatingly effective. There's only one problem with it here. Tea is fielding mostly fairies herself. Which means that they're boosting my monsters, and refilling the very AP I'm using to beat them up with. The AI doesn't recognize this, so it's happy to fire off Power of Nature five or six times, maybe even more. This is the same reason why the AI is bad with Pumpking; its special boosts all Darklands monsters, which means they will gladly power up your team as well. This makes fights like these hilarious. Just a friendly reminder that Dancing Elf is a 300/200 card at L1. This is the easiest experience Tea will ever get. Hell, In my practice run, one of these fights went on long enough that Sanga got almost 1000 damage out of a single attack. drat it Sanga, why is your first AP at L30, and why did you have to stop at L29? Videogames really do love you, don’t they? With the grunts taken care of, let's do some shopping. First on the list is the incredibly useful Deal of Phantom, which gives the equipped monster an extra AP in battle. I pick up two, and they're going straight on Sanga and Suijin. You can’t go wrong buying Deal of Phantom. There are so many monsters that would like one or two of these. Down in Home Land, we can pick our first Machine-type equipment. Like Black Pendant, it's good for an attack boost as well as an effect on the side, and Shock Shell's is inflicting confusion. We'll see what exactly that entails next time. Finally. This is the downside to playing Yugi’s campaign first, since you can’t get Shock Shells at all before this point. And I love these things. It came down to whether I wanted Mai or Yugi to completely wreck the boss, and I eventually settled on Yugi. He is the protagonist, we might as well let him show off first. My master may be gone, but I will not allow anyone to violate this hallowed ground! Oh Odion, you simple fool. Odion is the adopted brother of the Ishtar siblings. Naturally, this means he appeared a fair bit in the Battle City arc. It’s not too surprising that Scott would know about him to make an NPC version. Before we get to the fight, I just want to note the church itself. This game can look gorgeous when it wants to, and the stained glass in the background with the Mystical Elf statue is great. I wish more places had custom arenas, but alas, the budget was already stretched pretty thin as is. I agree wholeheartedly with Artix here. This particular battlefield is really pretty. Odion's only new monster is the Mystical Beast Serket. It eventually gets a special for powering itself up, but much like Beast of Gilfer, you're not going to get much use out of it given its minimal AP. We have some new toys ourselves, though. Dark Magician Girl has unlocked L4 Magic, so we can start having some fun on that front as well. Gravity Bind is pretty unimpressive for L4 magic, taking 1 AP away from the entire enemy team. Now you see them. Now you don’t. Naturally, the UI decides to get in the way, but that's a 900-1000 point bomb we can drop on the entire enemy team. Only the Dark Magician can initiate it, but that's okay because we can just have the Dark Magician Girl use magic or do damage to help set up a full-team nuke. Also, if you were curious, Dark Magician #2 can also do this since he is just literally another Dark Magician. He even has an appropriately colored cut-in image. Yes, that does mean that you can launch two Dark Burning Magic attacks in one round if you field both Dark Magicians. Yes, that is exactly as much overkill as it sounds. Ritual monsters are still ridiculous; in other news, the sky is blue. Mokuba! Wake up! ...Is that you, big brother? ...Kaiba... Mokuba is still a little groggy and he's a little weak, but he should be okay. Well, that's one less thing to worry about. Next time: Strap in, poo poo's about to get weird. Mokuba may also have brain damage, but who cares. ----- Chapters 19-20 Animations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvjXopDRhsg Music: Vs. I like Deals of Phantom, because they're a sort of great fit for Dragons. Instead of getting items that boost their damage, they can use the DoP. +3AP on most Dragons puts their Attack/AP ratio on par with most other monsters that use +1500 attack equips. In other words, a dragon with 4000 attack and 4AP is on level with a monster that has 2500 and 7AP Of course, "most monsters" are actually not very good. I think there are enough monsters to make 11 "good" teams? which, I admit is more than you can have, but that's still only about 20% of all of the monsters in the game. In the original card game, didn't DoP make your monster into Shadow Ghoul for a turn?

Gensuki posted:In the original card game, didn't DoP make your monster into Shadow Ghoul for a turn? I think it was just an attack boost dependent on number the of monsters in your graveyard. BLS seems like he's going to be a really good monster with 5 AP at level 15. Ritual monsters were sort of the prototype for the overpowered card types (synchro and XYZ monsters). A little bit less useful as you needed quite a few cards in your hand to use them (monsters equaling or exceeding the level of the ritual monster, the ritual monster and the ritual card). They really cut down on ritual monsters after GX came out (except for the Gishki archetype which revolves around ritual summoning).

Well, they cut out all the rituals because no one ever used them. The vast majority were bland beatsticks with no effect or a very lame one. Why yes I would just love to play 4 cards from my hand to get a 2400 attack monster with a weak burn effect that runs off another stupid gimmick that was dead on arrival.
