I don't hate it based solely on the fact that everyone is super young in this world, and she had to be a field agent of some sort early on to get as badass as she was before. Honestly, I think I'm one of the (very) few who don't really mind all the New 52 changes. I actually really dig the look of the new Lobo. Please don't hurt me.

Waller's case just gets particularly under my skin, for reasons I've already gone over in the DC Deathwatch thread and won't repeat myself with here. I never had any real connection to Lobo, whereas with Waller my first major exposure to DC--apart from vague cultural notions of who Batman and Superman were--was the Justice League cartoon, wherein she's a major player despite having no superpowers or anything. It all just feels really unnecessary, and changing things that didn't need to be changed. I mean, on the one hand, I think comics are too hidebound anyway--we can see that in constant resets to maintain status quo, the endless march of events to try and keep people interested, etc. But on the other hand, we all know that changes in comics can be made for the worse as well as the better, and in the cases of Waller and Lobo the changes made to them are actually making them less standout.

They then proceed to have her... cook their dinner for them.

New Leaf posted:I don't hate it based solely on the fact that everyone is super young in this world, and she had to be a field agent of some sort early on to get as badass as she was before. That was one of the most terrifying things about Waller, she was never a special forces field agent. She was a civilian, a widow who went back to college where she got a degree in political science before helping a congressman get elected and working as his aide until she talked the president into letting her start up the Squad in the form we're familiar with. Now she's a female Nick Fury instead of a competent, intelligent, ruthless woman who was willing to do whatever she felt necessary for the greater good. I just find what I've seen of her in New 52 dull. Lobo on the other hand could use a redesign since the last version was meant to be a parody of the extreme 90's antiheroes in comics, a little mockery of current attitudes would have been good. Anyway content, from Suicide squad #41, captain boomerang has a theme.

I think she's actually a much more realistic if she's not a badass field agent-who would you rather have running your spy agency, George Smiley or James Bond? That and it works so much better with her original backstory.

It's especially entertaining when you find out that Archie and the gang were once licenced out to Spire Christian Comics and appeared in stories extolling the virtues of 1950s America.

As a funnier man than me said, I can't believe that Archie has 2 (or sometimes more) attractive girls fighting over him at all times and is worried about poo poo like getting grounded or getting detention. Any actual human teenager would just be trying to get laid.

Well if you are getting laid left and right all the time, other poo poo starts to matter, and the refractory period is never quite long enough to get everything else done you need to.

It was part of a big summer cross-over event called "Double Ultimate Countdown World Secret War Ethel" in which Big Moose died and was reborn as Dark Moose while Betty and Veronica were revealed to be space aliens in disguise and Reggie hit Archie so hard it broke the fabric of the space-time continuum. Much better than those silly kids comics! This fake synopsis is loving hysterical.
