Definitely. They're like a ridiculously tight, more nasal JCM 900. That price seems a little high though. I know American amps are more expensive in Europe and vice versa, but that's like twice what they go for used here. If you had problems playing your earlier setup loud, that's not gonna change with that amp though. Bugeras I'd avoid in general due to reliability issues.

You can definitely get a Laney or one of the cheaper ENGLs for that much. Or a 5150III mini which definitely fits the bill for smaller and sounds okay at less than deafening volume.

There's a guy selling a Laney GH50L for 450€. I've looked at the 5150 III, but I can't find one used here in Denmark and I'd like to get a reasonable return of investment if I sell it again. Also, it's 1.000€ on Thomann. The 6505 is 1.200€, and I haven't been able to find one of these used either. I'm wondering, though, why the combo is half the price of the head.

If you're referring to the 6505 1x12 combo it's because it's made in China and not the US like the head. I have one I converted to a head and it's pretty much the same amp except a little tighter in the low end due to the smaller transformer. The 5150III is made in Vietnam; no idea why Fender's charging as much as they are though.

Lol dude is selling a 70's Bassman 10 for 150 bucks on craigslist. Says there are just some "minor issues with the master volume". Is it just me or should something like this be going for a lot more? I'm kind of skeptical. I'm pushing him for more info about the problem right now.

These things are some of the cheapest routes to awesome tone, the trade off is how loving big and heavy they are. If you can deal with it, go for it; you won't be paying more than $100 to get it fixed. They're also decent platforms for modding -- nobody really desires silverfaces since they made so many of them.

He already sold it though  A guy is also selling a bassman 50 head, but he wants 450 for it. Honestly I think these are probably going to be way too loud for a residential area anyway, and if I drop 400-600 I won't be able to afford a decent attenuator for awhile. I might just get a Blues Jr. or something.

As a guy who owns a blackface Bassman and a 15w Pro Jr., I can say that I've MAYBE ran into two gigging situations in the past 18 months where I've needed more balls than the little guy could bring. I suppose the type of music you play matters too, but an attenuator and probably a dirt pedal are gonna be needed to get some nice dirty tones from the Bassman at a reasonable volume. If I could do it all over again, I'd probably just buy a Blues Jr.

So I've been playing my guitars through Guitar Rig instead of an amp since I haven't gigged in almost 5 years. I have a pretty good patch bank set up for tones I like. Problem is I now want to start gigging again, and I really have no clue what I want. I play a lot of Buckethead, Satch, and Paul Gilbert. I'm pretty minimalistic and would rather not have to use pedals to achieve the tone I want. Currently looking into: - Bugera 1990 Infinium - Carvin Legacy (Can't find any new or used ones in my area, do they even have dealers in Canada?) - Marshall DSL 50 JCM 2000 Leaning towards the Bugera 1990 Infinium right now. Are these still as unreliable as they are made out to be? Carvin is kinda out because I cannot find one ANYWHERE, new or used. The Marshall is a bit too pricy unless I manage to find a decent used one.

Yeah I went with a modded Blues Jr. It sounds great and despite my worries about 15 watts still being too loud, I can crank it a little without having to worry about the neighbors. I'll probably get an AC15 soon-ish too, unless those are drastically louder for some reason.

I have a question related more to cabs than amps: I'm sort of starting to collect old heads whenever I see them pop up on eBay (Sunn, Sovtek, whatever weird 70s stoner thing I see on the cheap), but the cab game seems to be a bit different. For one, old Sunn cabs are way less likely to pop up on eBay, when they do, they are usually expensive as all hell and are pickup only on the other side of the country, etc. I guess my question is where and what should I be looking for in cabinets for a 70s stoner/doom vibe? Is it worth it to shell out for the true vintage gear online or should I be cruising local shops for any old serviceable cab? If it helps, I have a pretty standard Avatar 4x12 that I bought new 5-6 years ago that I love.

For doom poo poo you should be able to find an old peavey 215 (with black widows preferably) for dirt cheap. Sometimes guitar center's used site will have good deals, I got a sunn 215B for $150 shipped last year, but there's still shipping to pay.

So I've sold my Fractal Audio Axe-Fx II, it was simply too complex and I don't have the patience to spend a ton of time tweaking. Also, using it with a powered monitor didn't have the same room presence as a real amp. That said, I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of a used VHT/Fryette Deliverance 60 head! Nothing like a simple single channel amp to uncomplicate my gear situation.

Both of those seem perfect thanks. Though the book is gonna be hard to find in the UK without paying 50% extra in shipping. The Fender Champ's probably a good goal to aim for, I've got a Zoom G5 running into a cheap Kustom KGA10 solid state at the moment but it has some grounding issues and likes to pickup background noise as well as lacking the feel of a tube amp. The G5's 12ax7 circuit is nice but it's applied after the effects/amp modelling patch which feels very different to a more traditional OD->Amp rig. I think I'll be working on something like a Valvecaster OD pedal first though as it's only 9-12V DC so I can prototype that with barepaint and a chunk of wood or plastic with holes drilled in it. Looks like I might be upgrading from my old XXX 60 combo to a Dual Terror 30 head. I've searched everywhere for what I want and everything about it fits. I'd like a loop but I can make do with all the other positives. Any chance of them being on sale soon new? I haven't noticed Orange prices changing much.

I've never actually seen an Orange sale. I don't think Orange let's it's stockists put them on sale either, so it would be a long wait. What Orange does allow and support is selling factory refurbs which seem to have some flexibility in price and are practically new.

Is there an equivalent cab to a Marshall 1960B lead? I played one at a rehearsal studio and it fit my amp (EVH 5150 III) perfectly. The cab really cut through nicely without getting muddy. A fellow gear head and friend recommended I get these speakers: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/celestion-g12-65-heritage-65-watt-guitar-speaker But I'm not sure about building a cab myself. I was looking at empty cabs and I'd prefer a 2x12 form factor. The new empty cabs seemed kinda pricey. Perhaps I'm overthinking this...

I'm looking for a cheap amp in the $200-ish range for around the house. I'm a beginner and don't plan on gigging, so I figure I don't need anything too loud. There's a Roland Cube 20x on craigslist for $120 locally, but I was wondering if there was a better option in my range before pulling the trigger on it.

What do you play, what kinda guitar do you have, and tube/solid state/modeling, favorite beer, is 15W ok, first girl you ever kissed. At least provide something people here can use to come up with a good idea for you. Because otherwise I'm just going to give my age old recommendation for "Fender Super Champ."
