This episode really showed something that I never understood, why haven't they been training Eren's titan form like nonstop for the past few months? You would think getting him into control/fighting condition would be a top priority I guess they were worried he would turn on them but if you aren't going to utilize your weapon or teach it to defend itself you should destroy it.

That's the thing though, they're not treating Eren's Titan Form as a weapon. Like GROVER CURES HOUSE said:

Eren's usefulness, in the eyes of the military, is 1) moving rocks and 2) allowing Recon to safely study a titan up close. This may change at a later point, but no one keeps him around because he is competent. In fact, if their leadership is competent, they would consider his very stoppable rage to be an incredible liability in either form. This is most likely the real reason behind the short leash.

Barring some crazy gambit from Erwin, all the evidence suggests that they really don't want/plan to use Eren as a weapon, his usefulness lies elsewhere.

I think it's important to mention it hasn't been months, just a single month. Right now they honestly have no loving clue whether or not he can consistently control it, and most of the evidence up until now had spoken to the contrary. I think right now they were just prioritizing assessing whether or not Eren could remain stable in human form for a long expedition, hence the trial run they were doing (up until the female Titan hosed it up).

Plus how the gently caress do you teach a giant to kickbox? 15 meter punching bag?

Edit: as well, the importance here is being able to say Eren went on a mission which was successfully completed. Everything seems well and good right now but Eren really is still in deep, deep poo poo with the military, hence Levi being assigned to be around him almost perpetually.

I was one of the first to say "holy gently caress that's Annie" based solely off her facial features. She and it have the same eys and nose and lips and unbound hair.

Haven't read this bit in the manga, I'm saving that for another few weeks until this season is finished.

2. She has contacts or is in the recon squad that told her Eren would be in the right flank of the expedition.
3. She's the only graduate who didn't join the recon squad and thus wouldn't be missed if she abandoned her squad to go on a titan rampage.
4. Female titan uses the same unusual fighting stance against Eren-titan that she used against him in the hand to hand training scene.
5. When female titan showed up a few 'clever' people who probably read the manga/spoilers claimed female titan was Annie when she first showed up despite having almost no clues.
6. Probably some other stuff I've already forgotten.

I guess I need to pay closer attention. Those do make sense but from a first watch those are a little subtle and not that obvious to me. I barley even remember her, did she reveal why she was signing up to fight titans or anything else that might be interesting? I need to go rewatch those episodes with her in it.

Also, she didn't kill Armin despite being on a rampage through, well, basically everyone, after she saw that it was indeed Armin she had in her grasp. Though, yeah, 7's basically it; I've been only watching the anime and I still thought "that's totally Annie" when I saw that thing. Questioned it a bit at first, but as time went on more and more added up to it, but really. It's a giant Annie without any skin.

My assumption was also that it's Annie, based largely on the thought that she's gotten too much screen time to just chicken out, join the military police and disappear. Really she's the only suspect I can even think of outside of a completely new character... assuming the pilot is female, anyways. I originally had her pegged as the loner with a heart of gold type character, so its an interesting subversion of that if true.

(spoilering just in case everyone else is supposed to be and are going to get smacked with a ruler)

Note that I'm an anime only viewer/still making assumptions here, but I wonder if it was that obvious in the manga too?

At this point since we seem to have a Captain Obvious Reveal on our hands, what'd be great is if Mikasa and Levi chase the Female Titan, and fail.. but then a second female titan shows up and that one is actually Annie! :haw:
..Of course for that to work the first one would have to be someone related to Armin, and no one else really fits the bill (Or find some other reason for him to be spared.) Oh well. Maybe we'll get a different kind of surprise to make up for it.

Pixiv seems to be having a good time with drawing members of the Levi Squad over the past few days. Way to remind us of better times.

Also, it's probably a symptom of just being extremely popular, but there is an absolute ton of crossover fan art with Titan. King of the Hill, Teen Titans, Assassin's Creed, Guts, and even the A-Team. Not to mention all the real life stuff with imagery obviously inspired by the show / manga, or all the YouTube videos setting Guren no Yumiya to various other videos. It really seems like one of those franchises that comes along every now and then and ends up much more popular than you'd think with people who otherwise not really interested in anime.

Pretty much the next DBZ/Naruto/etc, but not terrible in this case. Then again, we've only seen most of one season so far so I guess you can't really compare it yet.

No, that's a little different.

That would require a scene where it is unambiguously revealed to the audience (But none of the other main cast) that Annie is the female titan. In the scene where they are back in human form they are still hiding their face from both the characters and us, the audience. We are not officially "in" on it yet, even if most people are are 99% sure we have it figured out. There's always the possibility, however unlikely, that it is building toward a "I led you to guess exactly the wrong answer I wanted you to :smug:" result. One of my favorite stories, which I basically can't the name the title of without.. ruining the entire thing, does exactly this.

Also I don't know anything about the seedy tavern parts of that site, I just stay above ground and away from any discussions or other human beings and it works fine as a reference bank.

Why is this show still pretending that everyone didn't already figure out who the female titan is the second her nose appeared? This is not something I've had spoiled for me, I'm just assuming, but it seems really loving obvious and I'm going to be very surprised if it turns out to not be true.

Also, I hope Eren really is dead this time. He was boring as gently caress. The only interesting part about him was the titan-thing, and since there are now others who can do that too, he's completely useless.

Sales-wise it's basically beating everything except One Piece. Even if the momentum does die down in the future, for now each volume still sells well over a million and that's pretty significant.

Nope, not gonna happen. Not manga spoilers btw, I'm just really drat sure. He might be a bad character, but too much of the story revolves around him for him to just disappear.
