Honestly parts of that sound eye-rollingly awful. (ramen eating) I haven't seen more than thirty seconds of Samurai though so I can't say whether its better or worse than what you got.

Tessai with hair really threw me off. I don't know why they didn't just baldcap the actor. EDIT: Also, somewhere along the line, W has become my absolute favorite toku show. DOUBLE EDIT: CHeck out this story from the New York Times today: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/02/world/asia/japan-films-shed-rubber-suits-godzilla-roars.html It's about toku effects and how younger professionals aren't stepping up to learn the rubber suit craft. I'm a little disappointed it focuses on Ultraman Ginga instead of Wizard or Kyoryuger, but it's an interesting story with some behind-the-scenes pics. toomanyninjas fucked around with this message at 05:49 on Sep 3, 2013 |

On the newest Kyoryuger: I now wish for each one of them to have some sort of Carnival mode (which is the best and most appropriate name for the suit upgrade) and crazy train keeps rolling. On Wizard: Even in these final episodes do I feel the woe that is the wasted potential in this series' concept

Sounds like major poo poo going down next week, and I know they didn't show Daigo's father for no reason.

I also really dig that new battle music they use during that scene. Wizard wasn't bad either, but at this point I'm mostly watching for decent fights and waiting for Gaim. JEFusion has pieces of an interview with Urobuchi saying that they're going to break away from the 2 episode arcs and go back to the style from Kuuga to 555. I haven't seen those shows, were they longer arcs or what?

Judging from my friends' reactions online you'd think the episode was literally 22 straight minutes of sweaty shirtless Daigo. ... Not that sweaty shirtless Daigo is bad, mind.

It'll be pretty amusing to me if the next Grim and Dark rider series is the one with banana arms. Also I'm not sure any red can have more swagger than Marvelous. Shirtless Daigo is quite the force to be reckoned with though. Darksaber fucked around with this message at 03:59 on Sep 4, 2013 |

I remember Faiz sort of weaving storylines across more than two episodes. Where the villain of, say, episodes 5-6 showed up in episode 4 or even 3. Maybe he meant that they'll try to provide more foreshadowing for the episode bosses.

Kuuga also had some pretty oddly structured plots. A lot of them seemed like the more simple two episode thing, but they'd usually have some enemy that ran along them or set up a lot of plot stuff for later or just have things that continue being things. Like that Rhino dude who lasted 10 or 15 episodes.

Like that Rhino dude who lasted 10 or 15 episodes. Yeah, that's the impression I got. I really hope this is what he meant, because it sounds more interesting than the current setup, where you can watch the next episode preview at the end of a two-episode arc, and know for certain you can just skip watching the show for the next two weeks because it's obvious nothing of consequence is going to happen. But regardless of episode structure or costume designs or tone or anything, all I want is for Gaim to be a good show and remain that way throughout.

God, the carpentry... I also love that after he puts on the suit anything that he does gets a "Zubat!". Most other toku shows that I've seen (not a ton, admittedly) get a "toh!" or something similar here or there, but the constant "Zubat!"s are cracking me up; please tell that keeps going.

The wait for a Wizard full series batch is killing me, I feel bad for dropping it after three or so episodes. At least I have time to actually watch other stuff, like Kabuto, or Garo, and to hype myself up for Gaimu even more. Odd question, esp. for my first post in this thread, but would there be any interest in Greek Fourze subs, based on Over-Time's scripts?

I just noticed the light Wizard of Oz references in Zyuranger. That brings me to two questions. 1) Are their any blatant Oz references in Abaranger? I'd imagine so, since the other two dinosaur sentai have them. 2) Why the hell do the dinosaur sentai have Oz references? Tell me Toei, who had the idea to first combine Oz and DINOSAURS together? That seems random as hell now that I'm thinking about it. Granted, 'Japan' and 'random as hell' tend to go hand-in-hand together anyway.

Unless of course you meant posting a link to them rather than writing them yourself. There isn't a big amount of them, and the few I've met also overlapped with the anime/cosplay crowd, from which I'm sort of distancing myself. I just have the first two episodes of Fourze done, because I like Fourze, and I like translating so I thought I might as well. So far I've used them to get a friend to watch Fourze, so they're not totally useless At any rate, links are here: Episode 1 and Episode 2

Current Sentai writers need to watch Kakuranger 39 and take a lesson from it. This is how you do a recap episode. It's only surpassed by the fever dream episode of Macross.

Dexie posted:I just noticed the light Wizard of Oz references in Zyuranger. That brings me to two questions. It's probably just a coincidence. It could very well just have been a suit designer feeling like being creative with themes, or it could have been in the writer's notes because why not? Japan probably just enjoys classic movie references or something. I noticed the monsters in the latest Kyoryuger were voiced by Deka Green from Dekaranger and Ninja Blue from Kakuranger. Since Endorf created them and he's voiced by Mega Blue I hope there's some running theme where all his monsters are voiced by former sentai alumni.
