Agreed, the two must watch series on YT are Chris Harris and roadkill. Sometimes other shows put up something good, but not a lot of the time, eg other stuff on drive, mighty mods, new race and rally stuff.

Here's a great, lengthy chat with Jim Hall, founder of Chaparral race cars. Interview by Bobby Rahal, presented by the Road Racing Drivers Club. Some pretty fun stories. Same format, Brian Redman. "Brian, drive as fast as possible, it will not last." - in reference to the first race of the turbo 3.0 CSL, the 1976 Le Mans art car by Frank Stella. Last night there was a horrible accident in Pinetown, South Africa. See here for more details - http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/kwazulu-natal/field-s-hill-crash-truck-owner-speaks-1.1574178 A truck was barrelling down an infamous downhill that has no arrestor beds, a route that truck drivers use to avoid a $3~ toll on the main highway. 24 people were killed in the crash. And one person had a dash camera, capturing the first casualties. Prepare to say "holy gently caress". And bear in mind that this is footage of a person dying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGB9l0r59LE

I watch Russian dashcam videos a lot, I think they're great training to spot where/when the incident is going to occur. This was absolutely out of the blue and shocking barely begins to cover it. You don't train for someone with an abject disregard for every other being on the road driving a many-ton vehicle.

If the truck was out of control, does the driver still get taken to court for manslaughter? I can only imagine being behind the wheel of a giant monster like that without the ability to stop.

He may have been a new driver who just got told by the old boys to "just take this shortcut, it's faster" and not known what he was getting into, but it's still his responsibility to pilot his vehicle in a safe manner.

I can only imagine being behind the wheel of a giant monster like that without the ability to stop. Generally unless there was a legitimate random failure leading to the loss of control, as in something not under the driver's control nor something that could have been noticed earlier, its the driver's responsibility. This looks like a case of smoked brakes resulting from descending a hill too fast/without appropriate alternative speed controls (jake, transbrake, etc.), so I'd call this as he's going to jail.

gently caress, I think I'd crash the truck killing myself before barreling through an intersection like that. So many people didn't need to die.

Hot Rod's Drag Week starts today, live streaming starts at 8:30 Central time. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGvTvFzdMg_PEo9tB2njxYmiwYhzpWc3_ Most of the top class cars will be running low 7 second ET's at right around 200mph. This year might be the year that someone averages in the 6's for the week, though. For those that don't know, Drag Week is Hot Rod magazines quest to find the world's fastest street car. There's a bunch of tracks they race at, and the cars participating have to drive to each one with no support vehicles. Everything they need must be in the car or towed by it the whole week. So somewhere this week, there's going to be a car driving on the highway that can run high 6's in the 1/4, a distinctly American phenomenon. Last years winner

It's a shame Larson isn't running this year, other obligations took his attention, sadly. I'm putting my money on the Sick Seconds guys. Drag Week is kinda jumping the shark now, though. Lot's of glass and carbon bodied Pro Mods showing up, Larson was the steel body hero. Seizure Meat fucked around with this message at 14:27 on Sep 9, 2013 |

I believe that's a Liberty 3 speed, and that's exactly what he's doing. No clutch pedal, just bang each gear and hang on. I also love that after the last gear change his hand shoots up to the chute lever, he drove that whole pass one handed. e- also I'm gonna be in IRC for this if anyone wants to come hang and chat, use mibbit or another IRC program. synirc server, room is #nascar Seizure Meat fucked around with this message at 14:56 on Sep 9, 2013 |

If the guys running basically funny cars can make it the 4 days then more power to em.
