So something came up which I think we've been getting wrong for the past several games. The only terrain-based penalty to BS comes from stuff you're physically up against, correct? For example, if you are shooting up into a building at a model through a narrow window, but the target is not actually up against the window/wall then the it's just distance+camo, etc. modifiers right? We'd been apparently misinterpreting the rules for cover/low visibility and applying the -3 BS mod against models with and obstructed line of fire, but that were not physically in contact with a piece of cover.

Yeah, we were making a similar mistake and I pretty much asked the same question in the last thread. If the red circle is the firer then A would get cover (touching and obscured be the terrain), B would not (obscured but not touching) and C would not (obscured and touching tettain but not touching the terrain that is obscuring).

I'm a new player but I think you're making a mistake the other responses haven't picked up on. Defender doesn't roll 1d20 per incoming shot. They choose their reaction and depending on their reaction usually only roll a single D20. The attacker's advantage is choosing advantageous matchups but also the fact they are rolling more dice than the defender. If the defender chooses to shoot they roll 1D20 and go FtF with all the attacker's dice BS to BS. If the defender chooses to dodge they roll 1D20 and go FtF with all the attacker's dice Ph to BS. In each scenario the defender compares their single with die with all the enemies dice simultaneously.

Good you cleared your doubts. Don't forget that some models CAN use more than one die when firing back (Total Reaction remotes, the Sin-Eaters), which makes them a big threat in ARO. And there are some unusual AROs, such as throwing smoke bombs to disrupt the attacker's LoF. The system is the same, but the effects can change a bit.

How's it work for ARO's against non-direct combat actions like lets say using doctor. Is it then two normal rolls? Or doctor so hard I dodge bullets?

Yeah, to be opposed rolls the actions have to mutually affect each other. IE yes, it is impossible to doctor someone if you get shot yourself. But if the rolls were opposed, you would get potential situations where the shooter hit, but the doctor was just doccing so drat hard he shrugged it off. How is shooting a Symbiont Armor resolved? Does it switch off immediately after getting to 0 W, or after the order? Namely, if I'm shooting at a Gao-Rael (1 W, Symbiont Armor) and he's hit twice, does he make the first roll at ARM 2 and the next at ARM 0 because the symbiont was disabled with the first hit, or does he roll twice at ARM 2 and the symbiont gets disabled at the end of the roll resolution?

Sorry, the full releases for September are supposedly Iguana Mormaer HMG Nessiae (sp? I don't think the 3rd ad troop is adding that much to the list and another starting order would be good. Apart from that it is a pretty awesome list though. Yeah Wildcats are the first thing I consider adding into a list as my meat and bones, I'm playing around with running less of them though to give me more options, but sectorials are so limited anyway it's hard not to go full boar on the link teams. You could drop the Hellcat for sure, but that's more of a playstyle preference, I'm not a huge fan of medics in a full aggressive list like that one, I find they can't keep up, even with the Zonds as extensions. In a balanced list I usually take a Trauma Doc/Daktari, but I just can't find space in that one which doesn't compromise something I'm trying to do. dexefiend posted:I am now going to buy Nomads. Sweet, thanks mate. He loves the Monofilament mines (and I hate them) which is why he ran double despite the cost and they posed massive issues for me moving on one side of the table which I had to resign being unable to take from him. He is toying with the idea of making one of them a Multi Sniper though. I'm not sure why he didn't run Shrouded either, but I didn't see them so I wasn't complaining either. Dropping the Seeds for Ikadrons is a good idea though, he needs to buy them at some point no doubt anyway. I'll send him the ideas forward, I think the one issue he's having is points cost with Shasvastii, I know he wanted Sheskiin in the list but chose to ditch her because he couldn't boot the 50 extra points. I'm not seeing a HRL option in the Army builder for the Gwailo or Malignos though, or do you mean the Missile Launcher Noctifer? Can someone explain what tactical role remotes fill? As a follow up, what faction can effectively use the most robots? I liked the idea of a Yu Jing list with lots of anime combat bots but other than the Su Jian (which is a lot of points) and maybe the Karakuri, most of them don't seem to be very combat effective.
|
# ? Sep 6, 2013 19:09 |

^^^: No, bots are quite effective. Most factions have their 4 basic bots (repeater/GML/reaction/sensor), and Yu Jing has some specialized ones to boot. The GML is nasty when it works, but is essentially a gimmick, because you need to write a large part of your list for it and it can be unfun to play / play against. The repeater is what it says on the tin, cheap orderbot or a 6-5 MOV repeater if you hack/need one for scenario reasons. The sensor bot is where you encounter the elusive Sensor/FO combo which lets you mark targets through walls with the sensor (good to use with the GML one). And the reaction bots are great board controllers and death to anything without camo. EVO bots are more or less passive buffs, and the specialized Yaoxie are a source of MSV and Holo1. It's fun when your "EVO repeater" suddenly pours napalm on some unsuspecting gently caress that tried to dismantle your support Flipswitch posted:I'm not seeing a HRL option in the Army builder for the Gwailo or Malignos though, or do you mean the Missile Launcher Noctifer? They fill the exact same roles as infantry with some strengths and weaknesses. They can be hacked, but I dont think they make Guts rolls. (Not sure.) You also must take either a TAG or a hacker to include one in a list, but suffer no direct effect if that model is removed from play during the game.

Open with Army 4 If you're new to the game, it might be better to start with a conservative 10-order list . . . If you do go along these lines, and why not if it floats your boat, I would try and squeeze in a couple more models, especially that 5th celestial guard in the second group. The wu ming is somewhat out of place, a single 4-2 move HI with a boarding shotgun is quite hard to bring to bear. Definitely try for a list with more SWC, especially in long range weapons. And really I'm not sure about kuang shi as order generators. Yes they're cheap, but really you should use their offensive potential. Here is how I would use that basic collection of models . . . this would require a bit of proxying, maybe buy a couple more celestial guard, but that's not a big deal in infinity. 24 pts to spare, I would either downgrade the sophotect and add a powerful model to combat group 1, or tool up the celestial guard link. Depending on who has the initiative (turn 1), you could either deploy them as a link to restrain impetuosity, or leave them separate and unleash them forward. Either way the cg are a more viable link to support your heavy hitters through the endgame. Little things like the hmg hsien can make a big difference too.
