The main reason I (and I assume many other people) do my own work on my car is because I want to be able to it right the first time. Mechanics at dealerships have to compete with hours on the book and will take shortcuts or half rear end their way through a job to get it done in the time allocated. My S2000 has been at a shop twice, and both times I uncovered poo poo the mechanic did that I would have never tolerated. Things like broken clips, installing the window bumper stop upside down, duct taping the moisture barrier to the door. These cars don't show up in shops frequently so mechanics won't take the time to study the proper steps to get a job done.

After my first clutch job on my first project car (Mitsubishi Colt GLXI) I had some kind of whining at speed that drove me crazy. I was sure I hosed up something while doing the clutch and removed the engine maybe 3 times trying to fix the noise. After a while I got fed up and while checking the clutch for the fourth time while drunk I had the idea to tow the car at speed without engine and trans. Turns out it was a wheel bearing or something (replaced all the front end wear parts so I can't be sure but at least the whining stopped).

Maybe jump up my rear end and tell me I am an ignorant lube monkey and don't know how to spell cavitation, nevermind know what it means, again, as well Adiabatic - have you checked to make sure you didn't accidentally bend a heatshield or lose a wiring harness clip or something, so there's some sort of thing dragging on the driveshaft, maybe? I've had that happen before. Clearly it was because I had no idea how to work on my jeep and shouldn't have dived into a drivetrain replacement, I should have brought it to a shop because a broken wiring harness clip that let an O2 sensor plug hang on the rear driveshaft unexpectedly means I don't know how to replace a clutch.

Noise/vibration is an incredibly coincidental front right wheel bearing... In other news looking for a good exorcist in the Richmond, VA area. \/\/\/ Yeah it was just strange that it went out during the clutch replacement. Adiabatic fucked around with this message at 20:57 on Sep 17, 2013 |
