These have a cool darth punk justice vibe. They're nice, light and musical. I think if you add some vocals (make it a song) you could take them to another level. I don't know if we're only catching a preview on the page but, and this is just my opinion, there needs to be more progression throughout, take out your drums some leave some silence and let the synths sing. Not sure if its my speakers but on the subject of drums they seem a little stockish but I know that French house uses these styles. Favourite is probably neon something but again it really needs more progression to keep me interested, build to something!

Tasty, thanks.

When mixing drums 99% of the time I'll add a distortion of some kind. Really lets you turn the sound right down in the mix whilst retaining loudness (just don't overdo it). Then eq again to remove the unwanted distortion frequencies. The chain usually looks something like this:

Comp
Eq
Dist
Eq
Reverb

Sometimes overdrive works better than distortion for bringing out deeper elements of a particular cymbal

I care because I really liked it! I can tell you're listening to Breakbot and Kavinsky a lot.

Also, are you making your own bass guitar tracks? If so, I'd like some advice on how to get that punchier sound that you have in Late Nite Date. I love that Justice-y/Daft Punk-y slapped bass sound with that combined kind of over-driven sound when not slapped.

Holy poo poo I love this.

Speaking of which, how does one go about getting the above/daft punk 'sound'. That massively over compressed and sidechained sound. (I wish I had a bass guitar for those bass lines)

Thanks for the praise, and you've touched on something I'm incredibly conscious of: Monotony. For that very reason I'm going to have vocals on all my releases from here on out.

Wicked mate I love it. Even think the first 3 mins could be doubled in size like each 64x2 cos I love the hypnotic low end and the almost broken beat groove you add to it. Will listen on monitors tomorrow bang on. Is the ep on the way out?

no home for the ep yet, 2 tracks are finished/going through very minor changes - the third is like half done. I have the two done on yousendit links I've been sending to my friends who can play them out and test them and I've been very carefully refining them based on feedback. They're coming along well, way different to my usual and progress is mad slow, but I'm confident that when its done I can find a good home for it.

Figured this was the best place to ask for this, hope I am right. My brother is a professional wedding photographer and I am his 2nd shooter. We were talking about potentially offering DJ music into packages that we sell. I know next to nothing about DJing, but looking for some information on what it would take specifically DJ hardware wise to get a wedding DJ setup going. Anyone do this or have any recommendations on where to start?

Part of a piece I am working on has a bridging portion where static overwhelms the music that's going on and then fizzes off as the next part of the piece melds in, if that makes any sense. I know I've heard the effect before, but I can't find any examples now that I'm actively looking. The synth I'm using is Aalto Solo. Can anybody help?

So I've got a lead going right now that's bouncing all over the place, and one thing I'm really struggling with is getting a monophonic bassline to fit in it nicely. My music theory background is total poo poo and I can't figure out for the life of me what key the bassline should be in. I've been leaning A#, but who the gently caress knows? I stripped out all the background noise and left the bare lead and drums in case someone would be willing to drop it into a VST and tell me what they think. I've enabled downloads on it.

Yep that does sound like A sharp to me but I'm hit and miss when recognising notes by ear (def sounds like a sharp anyway).

If I was at home I'd link it up with a piano and hit the notes til it sounds right but I'd start with just the kick and drop everything else out and key match that. I take it you keyed in the synth line so say you are in A# you should make sure your notes are within the scale or the bassline may never sound right.

Keys apply to the whole piece, so everything (drums and all) should be tuned to whatever scale fits the mood.

The B in the 303 riff implies the A# phrygian mode, so if you're attempting to build a chord progression/counterpoint based on the A sharp (or B flat) natural minor scale, you might not be getting the desired results because of the minor 2nd in phrygian. The scale tones in A# phrygian are A#, B, C#, D#, E# (F enharmonically), F# and G#. Try playing around with those notes and see if that helps. The relative minor key is D# minor so you could also try to use that as your tonal base.

This is some good stuff man, I really like the way you've got a bunch of really dirty sounds but it's still a clean mix. You could maybe bring the lower frequencies up a bit in some parts, to about the level of the square-ish jungle bassline at 1.37? I dig the prominence of that part. There's a fairly active thread in NMD if you're looking for more source material/inspiration.

This is hilarious in all the right ways. I was grinning like a dummy throughout. If I had any critique, I might bright those great jazz samples(?) in sooner, just so the listener doesn't fatigue on the bouncy fun at the beginning. But otherwise, I liked it a lot!

This was pretty dark and nasty, and I liked the kind of tribal stomp feel to the beat. You might experiment with letting the notes in your bassline glide together more and leave that Pew-Pew attack for "special" occasions in the bassline if that makes any sense. Might be something to try, anyway. Also, the kick kind of gets lost for me, see if you can carve out a little more space for it to punch through, just cuz that relentless thump makes the track all the more heavy. But I totally dig the vibe in this.
