For those not following the TG Kickstarters thread, Wargames Bakery have released an infinity-styled basing pad as one of the stretch goals of their kickstarter (they're basically resin molds that you press greestuffed bases against). Looks good, but the pricing is a bit steep for non-UK backers. 46 hours to go on the kickstarter, it's already more than funded so they'll no doubt be available for regular sale later.

Man some of those designs are crazy busy. I played some Infinity today! I played Bakunin! and my list sucked. I think I may end up having to cave and buy the Uberfall Tittyfurry model because it has legit rules in game.

I can't say I like morlocks or the furry thing much, but they would be cool tactically. How about Bran do Castro instead? A little conversion on him, no tail, helmet, maybe splice on some boots and he is an awesome idea. He's a 'triple zero' agent, ie he is Hanuman Bond. Mate of mine used him in a game once and he was the ultimate first turn assassin. Better than a fiday even, with that mobility.

So finally gave As long as you can see a leg or legal limb to start firing, he can put out so much template fire that even the scatters are good. Infinity is already a game that punishes bad deploys more harshly than most, and a linked ODD blast weapon really makes you feel sorry for the other guy. I have to say that I really like the way they built the linkable Homeridae. They really make taking Achilles optional since you can get his firepower (Eudoros) or melee prowess (Ajax) cheaper and linked, but not as durable. Has anyone given Machaon a go? I'm not sure how he'd word (linked with Ajax to keep him going?) since his use of the Doctor skill breaks links.

A couple friends introduced me to this game yesterday as an alternative to 40k - they have both pretty much moved into Infinity exclusively at this point, so I'm looking at picking up some models and joining them. I read the descriptions of the different factions in the OP and on the website, but its never broken down exactly what each faction does better/worse relative to the others. Is it possible to make a list to fit any playstyle out of each faction? I haven't actually played yet, so I'm looking for a starting list that will let me get into the game and learn the rules while still being somewhat competitive.

The great thing about Infinity is that it's one of the most well-balanced games I've ever played. Most factions can be built to do most things, some better than others. Given that each sectorial adds a new way to play a faction, it may be easier if you you list a playstyle/s you had in mind, and we could throw recommendations at you until you finally agree that the ALEPH has your best interests at heart, and it's time to upgrade to posthuman,

That sounds very welcome following a GW's method of game balance. I am leaning towards Haqqislam now, although Yujing also has a fair number of models that I am interested in. They look so good after painting space marines for years.

Noice! Corvus-belli makes such a nice refreshing change over GW because they actually seem to give a poo poo about their playerbase. Just be warned if you jump into the Hassassin sectional (probably better to start with just basic Haqq or YJ but the call of the sectional is pretty big usually because it gives you more focus) headfirst because of awesome models - they are probably one of the trickier sectionals to play. But on the other-hand just get whatever minis you think look cool, infinity is pretty well balanced that there is no bad choices! Well mostly. Speaking of Yu-jing more generally however, what's the thoughts on Bao link-teams? Thinking of moving into the ISS eventally and I kinda want to use a Bao link instead of celestial guards mostly (because bao look amazing). The x-visors with shotguns/contenders combined with smoke by some celestial guard seems pretty cool. However their expensiveness/fragility if the enemy has MSV2 and the need for a pheasant seems a bit double-edged. The pheasant will allow me to get big money/obvious LT's like Sun-tzu and Hsien and provide some degree of close-up rambo TAG protection, but is it at all cost effective? Celestial guard links seem to be the thing everyone takes or Hsien links if they want to spend alot of points on smoke offensives. Edit: Just quickly made of course and rough - but probably something along the lines of this: Yu Jing - Imperial Service | 11 models ________________________________________________________ Combat Group #1 Bao BS (29|0) Bao BS (29|0) Bao BS (29|0) Bao Sniper (36|1.5) Imperial Agent Combi (43|0) Sun Tze MULTI Lt (50|0) Su-Jian (56|2) Combat Group #2 Celestial Guard Smoke LGL (13|0.5) Kuang Shi Chain (5|0) Kuang Shi Chain (5|0) Kuang Shi Chain (5|0) ________________________________________________________ 300/300 points | 4/6 swc open with Aleph Toolbox : http://goo.gl/gmj9Yk or Yu Jing - Imperial Service | 10 models ________________________________________________________ Bao BS (29|0) Bao BS (29|0) Bao BS (29|0) Bao Sniper (36|1.5) Imperial Agent Combi (43|0) Hsien HMG (61|2) Sun Tze MULTI Lt (50|0) Celestial Guard Smoke LGL (13|0.5) Kuang Shi Chain (5|0) Kuang Shi Chain (5|0) ________________________________________________________ 300/300 points | 4/6 swc open with Aleph Toolbox : http://goo.gl/v7BS39 Either way I feel like Im missing out on cool stuff like sophotects and CG hackers. I've been reading through a bunch of infinity stuff recently and haven't been able to figure this out. What did you say? I can't hear you. You wanna wall of text? Have a wall of text. PANO Rocks: Many (good) TAGs, +1 BS across the board, good visors and special options. You're the best at shooting and shooting is the meat of the game. Sucks: No warbands, a whole 1 skirmisher, many low-WIP units - poor specialists, lower mobility. Can't haul rear end across the board and has a harder time in scenario missions. YU JING Rocks: +1 CC across the board, very varied and good HI (including robots that are so good they count as HI!), hellishly fast JSA, 5pt regular orderbots, good at lightning strikes and close-range firefights, good at low points. Excellent drop troop. Sucks: JSA is a glass cannon, some expensive jack-of-all-trades units HAQQISLAM Rocks: Regeneration, Religious, a fuckton of cheap regular HFTs, Haris as a second link-team that does not limit the first, excellent mercs in QK, Holo1 shenanigans, Impersonators Sucks: seriously, Ghulams for 13pts? Plain rifles instead of combis, your TAG's a beast and hard to drive anywhere. Fidays work poorly against aliens. lovely and few remotes. NOMADS Rocks: best hacking in the game, awesome specialists (you can airdrop engineers with helperbots!), fun terror units and warbands. Good vanilla troops in Corregidor. Excellent cheap/light TAGs. Nasty (if unfun) GML combos. Good remotes. Sucks: almost everything has MOV 4-2 in Corregidor, few good HI, furries and bare-assed nuns ARIADNA Rocks: very cheap troops so you'll always outnumber your enemy, camo Tankhunters, cheap APHMGs, excellent infiltrators in Chasseurs (AVA 4 in sectorial!), can actually pull of CC-oriented tactics reliably, 99% of your stuff is hacking- and EMP-immune, artillery tankettes, Cameronians (hard as nails werewolves with smoke and 2 chain rifles) Sucks: everything is low tech - plain rifles (no combis), no MSV2+, no TO camo (plenty of normal camo though), no hacking so you may be hosed if the enemy brings a GML, no TAGs/REMs, specialists don’t have helperbots. Furries. ALEPH Rocks: Awesome tech, good remotes and TAG, synchronized bots, ODD/NWI out the wazoo, very tough units, many strong characters, Achilles is a human TAG, many link teams in sectorial, you’ll always resurrect your heroes in campaign Sucks: Expensive points-wise, your link teams are limited to 4 members (can't make a normal one at all!), sectorial has no infiltrators/camo, Cube 2.0 does not work against CA (in fact you'll autofail evac rolls) CA Rocks: The best tech in the game. The best TAG in the game. The best warband in the game. HIs are equal to other factions' TAGs. Lots and lots of awesome specialists. Hard to kill. Very versatile. Permanently take over enemy units or deploy 1" behind their TAG and slice it into pieces. Reaction drones with mimetism and monomines/plasma rifles. Batroids (well-armed defensive baggagebots) Sucks: Very expensive points-wise. HI are priced like other factions' TAGs Sectorials have very defined specializations and are poor at what they don't do. Overcosted line infantry. Speculo Killer may die horribly if the enemy does make the ARM roll. No "specialist" remotes (barring baggage ones) TOHAA Rocks: Make lots of link teams even in vanilla. Link teams can be mixed (HI, engineer and HFT warband in one. Lots of flamers and viral weaponry. AVA 4 Neurocinetics! Symbiont armor grants a pseudo extra wound to many units. Excellent drop troop. Sucks: All your link teams are limited to 3 members. Your symbiont units (including TAG) will die horribly if they fail even one ARM roll against fire. No active hacking to speak of. TAG seems lackluster (or did until Mulciber Gorgos-carped-bombed everyone last Gencon ) Pierzak fucked around with this message at 14:58 on Sep 16, 2013 |
