Mahou Shoujo of the End - *warning violent*
:nws::nws:

Magical girls come to earth and kill everybody? Also the people they kill become zombies?

Three chapters in and I'm loving the poo poo out of this. It's so over the top gory and violent and downright ABSURD that I cannot help but love it to bits. The tits girl is so blatant and ridiculous that I can't be offended by her, because she very clearly is put there on purpose, as evidenced by literally every scene she is in being very precisely angled. Or that when the death-flagged cute girl from the start gets half her head blown off and falls over, showing off a panty-shot. That was so absurdly out of place I had to laugh. Or the two guys death-flagging themselves by saying they should leave the protagonist behind and being incinerated immediately after.

It's so wonderfully played straight that I adore it. I don't know if it sucks poo poo past chapter three, but it certainly passed the three chapter test, and I guffawed at the last panel in chapter three. I knew that was going to happen.

edit: caught up. Almost all of the 11 chapters currently out are batshit crazy/absurd. Some really creepy stuff in a fanservicey way, but the ~mystery of the mahou shoujos~ is getting interesting. Creepy Raper Guy kinda sucks. Like really. It would be just the best if he gets killed either trying to/before he can molest "titty-chan" or by her. Man what a...Creepy Raper Guy, but I suppose every survival horror story HAS to have one of those, and the rest of the cast is too dumb to just off his unhinged rear end before he can kill half the cast or just ruin everything.

But if this series bucked trends instead of reveling in them, it probably wouldn't be as amusing as it is. The moeblob is the actual mastermind! The bullies aren't actually bullies! Everybody's parents are DEEEEEEEEAAAAAAD/MAD SCIENTISTS! I love it. The fanservice is mostly so ridiculous that it can't possibly be titillating, though Creepy Raper Guy going to rape/murder 8-year-old(yet weeeeirdly well-endowed) Yoruka was getting just a teensy bit outside of what I feel is acceptable even in a no-holds-barred horror/shocker/gorefest.

Naqua-den

"Japan is being invaded by parasitic gods. The only one left to stop them is Nakua, the spider god. She enlists the help of Taromaru, an otherwise normal boy who has the Nakua's spider familiar resting inside him. Together they free Japan's gods from the control of the parasites."

So, this seems pretty good, from the five chapters that are out so far. It's got a very dry, understated sense of humour ("No, I'm Taro") that I like a lot, some really great character dynamics, a premise that gives it a lot of room to manoeuvre and shake things up, the occasional gorgeous action spread and very little in the way of fanservice. Check it out. Apparently it's a spin-off of Kaibutsu Oujo, though I remember not liking that one much at all.

The best thing about this page- and it's a great page, I think it's probably the best single page in Nickelodeon, is that when he says, "My God has set me free", you can actually see that he's missing the puppet strings that everybody else has on their arms. Genius.

*Actually it was July, but they only showed up on batoto today it seems.

This series rules. Just finished chapter 46 and the last 12 or so chapters have been absolutely fantastic. The "look at the reader" gag in one of them is so well done, too, when normally it'd get stale. I just love that it's absolutely not averse to just going full-blown supernatural/paranormal/sci-fi when it feels like it without it completely taking over the setting itself. Makes things more interesting.

The humor is top-notch, the characters are all great and well-developed over time, the romance is nearly nonexistent but that's fine. Hell, the romance between the elementary schoolers is moving at a faster pace than the high schoolers, which I find endlessly amusing. Add to the fact that the children act like actual children, and it's just super enjoyable. What a fun series so far! I hope it can keep this pace up, I'll have to look into buying the actual volumes.

edit: I think this would be a good "one panel" for it as well.

Thanks to this thread I read Bonnouji. What a fantastic read! I loved the light humor and the relaxed pace and tone, as well as the fact that the characters actually felt like adults. Very charming.

Anyway, I come here to recommend a manga I loved as a kid that I recently reread and found I still loved it.

Jing: King of Bandits

From what I can tell, it's pretty obscure. I couldn't even find it online except scanned as Ou Dorobou Jing. Basically, a kid and his bird steal various things like jewels, the elixir of life, and time itself. The world is whimsical and fascinating, and for some reason everyone is named after various alcohols. I've never read anything quite like it, and the Seventh Heaven arc especially holds a place in my heart for being just so imaginative and strange.

It was really hard to find just one panel, since one could show off its sense of humor, its strange locales and people, or the interesting quieter spreads. There's a panel at the end of volume 3 that's still one of my favorite pages in manga, but I think this one sums up the general feel a little more.

It had a followup series called Jing: Twilight Tales but I didn't like it that much.

I think the anime adaption of Jing was released in America maybe a decade ago. And those look like they might be scans from an officially released book in America, back when manga publishers were doing better.

This might just be the stupidest thing I've ever read. But I feel that if he is bitter about Devil Blues getting canned, then this makes a lot more sense. A character with such insanely exaggerated assets being reduced to, literally, talking tits and pussy(most of the VP's dialogue balloons point towards one of these two things) and is absolutely never in a scene without some form of absurd fanservice seems extremely cynical to me, let alone the rest of it.

Either that or he's just doing what he TRULY loves. Either way it was really, really, incredibly stupid. But also really funny at times, and the intense seriousness to every retarded situation makes for amusing scenes on their own.

I don't even think I could recommend it. But I did get some really good laughs out of it. It's basically something that if you take it seriously for even a second, you've already lost.

That's the exact reason why I said I got so many laughs from this. I mean the tits vs. rear end chapters and the kiss chapters made me laugh so much. You just got to take it for what it is, which is an incredibly stupid manga that you just cant' take seriously, but really hilarious if you know which angle you know how to read it from.
