The Navy PAO that was working on Battleship was a woman O-4 with only a handful of ribbons and no warfare device. When she was coming onboard one day, she showed her ID and was saluted by my friend. The POOW walked up to him and said "sir, what are you doing? She isn't real. You don't have to salute here! She doesn't even have a pin!"

Military public affairs is a loving travesty and if the branches actually gave a poo poo about appearances they'd make it possible for the subject matter experts to be the advisors rather than people who write press releases all day. I'm so bitter about having to fight an uphill battle to get someone to give a poo poo about launching a NASA mission and do a press release and authorize interviews.

The mortar bombs resemble the Iranian pattern for 81mm and 122mm bombs, so it's possible their 60mm projectiles look similar. My guess: http://www.hirtenberger.at/hds/ Edit: Or maybe this one? Austrian 60mms. Edit: Also check out these Bulgarian mortars, see if anything looks similar: http://arsenal-bg.com/mortars.html Google tells me this company manufactures the Hirtenbergers as well, but I wouldn't call that evidence. Brown Moses posted:Figuring out how they are packed would be a great help, there's more packaging material in that video than anything else. I've done some searching around. The British Army bought some Hirtenberger M6-895s for use in Afghanistan. Here's a pic of some soldiers firing (what I think is) a M6-895 in the handheld mode with a clear shot of the packaging material. (The 895 refers to the "ballistic length" of 895 millimeters. There are three versions of the M6: the 640, 895 and 1000. I'd guess your mortar is a 640 if it's a Hirtenberger.) Photo source and higher res: http://www.flickr.com/photos/73614187@N03/6647943705/sizes/l/in/photostream/ Reference to the British Army's use of M6-895s: http://www.army.mod.uk/documents/general/285986_ARMY_VEHICLESEQUIPMENT_V12.PDF_web.pdf I dunno. Still nothing conclusive but I think it's a strong candidate. BrutalistMcDonalds fucked around with this message at 23:53 on Sep 26, 2013 |

Omi-Polari posted:My guess: Those bipods don't appear to have any kind of fine-adjust nut on the leg that you can see him manipulating between shots to level out the bubbles on the sight (the eye-piece of which he doesn't appear to be using as there's a wall preventing direct lay and no obvious stakes/markers appear to be out- although there are lots of cuts between rounds so it's not impossible.)

Are 60mm rounds compatible from mortar to mortar? In other words, is there a STANAG (or something similar) that means American 60mm round will work in an Austrian 60mm mortar and so on? If that's the case, could we be looking at Russian ammo (or whatever), but say, Iranian tubes?
