The disappearing cars bug has made into the British national news. Admittedly on Radio One, the national station aimed at under 30's, but still, a bug in a game is very clearly not national news.

That's loving ridiculous.

Also, I bet I am not the only one who really hopes the game never comes to PC. I am starting to get a bit fed up with PC gamers saying it's definitely coming to PC, we found references to PC, it's DEFINITELY coming. And it's going to be so much better! I am a PC gamer myself, but the elitist tone they have sometimes grinds my gears.

Total fuckin' silence.
I know this flies in the face of video game philosophy, but I actually get kind of a kick out of how you barely get anywhere with money. Western crime fiction since the dawn of modernity has been running off of the flaws and pitfalls inherent in capitalism and this is probably the first GTA game that's really forceful about that. I laughed out loud at the result of the second heist (the Trevor-organised one): Take: $20,000,000! :woop: Reward void: -$20,000,000! :(. It seems all the more obvious to me when the tagline was that the game's all about "the pursuit of wealth" or whatever it was. In 95% of cases, it's almost completely futile.

There are obvious ways to disagree with this direction though. Maybe blame the number of players who criticised the amount of money you tended to amass in IV?

Another thought I've had is that the game - for all the "finally a non-serious GTA!" talk - is actually a fair few shades darker than IV at times, maybe on par or even outdoing Red Dead Redemption. A comparison I thought of was an encounter you can get with the young girl in IV, the one who ran away from home to go to Liberty City to become an actress, only to be immediately picked up by a porno producer and pumped full of heroin. For such a gloomy, cynical game, Niko's reactions to this humanised him and it actually had a surprisingly happy ending where she goes home and later emails Niko telling him she's enrolled at a community college. Contrast that with the early V mission where Michael "saves" his daughter from the porno producers/drug dealers on the boat. This time the damsel in distress is fully aware of what she's doing, and when Michael somewhat naively asks since when television people and drug dealers have walked hand-in-hand, his daughter replies, "It's Los Santos, Dad!".

The Housers have evidently adopted the USA quite affectionately for all their stereotyping and provoking. Sam in particular from what I hear loves living in New York, but IV was keen to point out how close what is essentially the centre of the developed world - Times Square, Wall Street, the Upper East Side - is to some of the poorest, miserable, most run-down areas imaginable. LA, the cultural capital of the USA (for all intents and purposes) and the developed world at large is so consumed within itself that it barely notices the smell of its own waste; as V points out the continuing economic problems, LA or Los Santos moves on with its fingers in its areas, business as usual. Rockstar, for their questionable skills at satire on occasion, etc., have created some contemplative crime companion works for the era, I think.

Also I bought stocks as Michael yesterday while hanging in Trevor's trailer. Nothing like investing while the sounds of your friend taking a poo poo serenade you.

EDIT:

I've barely touched the story, but I wandered out of town and found some oddball cars. Someone mentioned the old metal tractor, which I was able to find.

I also found a VW van, 911 Turbo (which is unbelievably fast), and a Ford GT.

I really need to learn to get away from the cops when I have three stars, because they're all over me like flies on poo poo.

I also found 1/50 scrap of a note about someone's murder at the lighthouse.

I think the sheer amount of content and detail in the game make any small omissions all the more apparent. Yes, there's a few dubious decisions (no vigillante missions?) but calling this game unfinished is ridiculous. It's overflowing with stuff, and there's still Online to come.

EDIT: As much as I miss the vigilante stuff, it may have been left out because of the Cops and Crooks mode in Online. Which is fair enough, but those missions were always a good way of getting an impromptu yet structured chase/firefight while free roaming.

With a fast car it's quite easy, race to an entirely different part of the map to lose the cops. They'll search for you (with their view indicated on the mini map) and stay out of that long enough.

Hide under bridges from the heli and in alleyways. Also ditching your car and walking up some part where there are no roads is a good way. Or switch cars a couple of times when out of police view.
Or use the los santos customs.

In the countryside I usually use one of the 4 wheel ATVs or a crossbike and just go way off the road, that usually prevents them from finding you.

I never said I didn't like the game. I think it's excellent and one of the best games I've played all year. But it's not perfect and those are all things that bug me personally. Going for full completion (as in, experiencing everything the developers wanted the player to experience) and having fun are not mutually exclusive. I've had tons of fun playing the game, and I've had some frustration playing the game.

Okay, so cops can spawn in normal traffic, that's good to know. I just haven't seen them at all so far. My issue with the size of the world is that aside from LS itself, things are spread a bit thin is all. Mountain lions can be lethal and again, that's fine, but insta-kill is a bit much.

There's a lot of cool stuff with law enforcement. Like the FIB guys protecting the scientists at the satelites near the Senora Desert airfield. Or the unmarked crown vic trolling around shining flashlights at the homeless people. As well as highway cops on bikes sitting at the side of the highway. Also the fact that they switch from LSPD to sheriffs when you go outside Los Santos.

You really should pay more attention to the game instead of just following a guide. Coming from someone that also did 100%.

That's not exactly what I meant though. Taking GTAIV for instance to compare, in that game there were foot patrols on nearly every block and patrol cars driving around in regular traffic, and the whole time I've been playing, driving around peacefully in LS and walking around, I haven't seen a single police car amidst regular traffic or a foot patrol walking the streets. It's not a complaint as such but it still strikes me as a bit weird, especially as cops tend to swarm you so quickly and efficiently if you do even the slightest infraction.

Icedude

I just discovered something about the P-996 that changes everything. The bullets from its guns explode like grenades, making them even better than missiles for taking out cars and stuff. Seriously, you just need to land shots even vaguely near a car and it goes up. On the one hand I can't wait to use this thing against targets who actually fight back, but we also may be looking at Battlefield 2 levels of skygods in GTA: Online :stare:

edit: It is fragile as all hell though, a few plinks from police helis as I blew past them was enough to kill my engines permanently. Didn't even hit 5 stars that time.

I'm getting a 100.56% return on AUG stock

Foot patrols are a lot less common in LA than New York outside of the beaches and some of the more tourist spots. I've seen quite a few patrol cars in normal traffic though they are not as dense as IV. There seem to be changes to the npc reporting system that IV used though as I'm pretty sure civilians will report the sound of gunshots now even if they don't see you.

I have some minor issues with it as well (no emergency vehicle missions, not getting outfits/uniforms that give you in game benefits like SA did, limited number of heists/robberies) but from what I've been hearing/reading, most of those issues will no longer be a problem once GTA: Online comes out.
