So, skip on the Anime and wait for proper computer to check the VN. Gotcha. I'll probably just try to acquire Escaflowne once more. I really wanted to do the simulwatch, but alas, it was not to be. I still hope it rules.

Now, hopefully someone can help with the creepy serial killer anime/manga.

e: Computer is okay. I mainly just don't want to do too much in front of it since I'm undergoing rehabilitation post-knee surgery, so I'm mostly going to stare at the computer while using a stationary bike and just pushing/clicking the play button.

In regards to the fanservice (especially given how two Muv-Luv characters looked like hyper-sexualized pre-teens), I'm kinda weary of it right now after reading the latest 2 Index novels. I don't know how I've missed it earlier, but now I'm convinced that the character designer / illustrator is a creepy pedophile. I know it's a dumb-as-hell, Dragon Ball Z-esque series based on bullshit power levels that don't really matter in the end, but it was fun in that fast food kind of way, dubious hentai doujin-looking characters aside, but after introducing the stand-in for Odin as a 13 year-old girl in stripper wardrobe with a stereotypical witch hat and reading the supposed justification the illustrator guy gave about it I said "You know what? I'm done with this loving garbage series". While I don't mind characters providing titillation (even if it's not my bag), I would prefer to avoid the kind of thing that would make me feel like a pedo while watching/reading it.

The VN is a... VN so it's not terribly taxing on a computer, to be honest, unless you have a real poo poo heap.

Wark Say posted:

The other type of show it's... well, since I mentioned Gurren Lagann, I read a bit about mecha series that aren't related to Sunrise or Gainax, so I found a franchise that goes by the name Muv-Luv. Since I read that the main chunk of the franchise is on a Visual novel format, and the current computer that I use for entertainment would get destroyed if I so much as look at it funny in regards to installing anything, I was wondering: Was the anime that got made based on Muv-Luv any good? All I've seen are some google images focusing on tacky fanservice (and two girls look pre-teen while wearing skin-tight jumpsuits :stonk:), so perhaps it would be wiser to ask you guys if it's worth a shot. If not, what kind of show do you think could scratch that mecha/robot itch?

Okay, as the resident 'likes haremy bullshit no one else in ADTRW likes' person I enjoyed Muv Luv:TE a lot. It's a side story so knowledge of the VN isn't necessary, and the first two episodes really set up the universe pretty well for a newcomer.

That said, there are many better mecha anime out there, and aside from sharing the same universe as the VNs there's nothing particularly compelling about it. I suppose if you like japans wacky 'lets get a bunch of different (vaguely steroetyped) nationalities together it's kinda fun (I do).

However, if you mind fanservice, while it not SUPER egregious like some shows its very prominent (code geass S2 levels). The biggest fault however, if you actually do happen to enjoy it, even at 20+ episodes it is not a complete story. The second (or last 2/3rd if I remember correctly) of the 'story' is supposed to take place in the VN that is coming to ps3. Probably exclusively japanese as well.

Just putting another opinion out there. Even as someone who liked it it has serious problems, at best.

I want to revisit it, especially with the 2nd Season coming sooner than later. Thanks for all the recommendations, goons! (And for the votes against the M-L anime)

Togainu no Chi was a series of gay romance novels in Japan that got turned into an extremely violent anime about scheming post-apoc drug dealing psychopaths and knife fighting.

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou is sort of like Bleach but with a more lovecraftian vibe to it. Also more Taoist wizardry and magic Buddhist monks. The main villain is a sort of a crazy dude bent on revenge who aspires to be a scheming psychopathic American Psycho style killer but isn't good at it.

Zetman is like the Tim Burton's Batman version of Megaman.

Skullman is a subversion of the classic Anime/Manga masked hero kind of deal and is about a man bent on revenge.

I do fine on planes and trains but I can't read on buses or cars, and the ride is about 30 mins so perfect for an episode. I used to save up like 3-4 months of stuff and then marathon watch series for a few days then start saving up again.

It doesn't look like you've seen Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which is a great show with an excellent English dub. Steins;Gate has both a great original VA cast in Japanese and a good dub.

If you're open to subbed anime, I'd suggest Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Madoka Magica. Madoka has a dub on the BD release but it really isn't any good, just watch the subbed version on crunchyroll or YouTube for free.

After reading Teppuu like five times, I'm looking for any other female sports manga that aren't just excuses for fanservice. Intergender with a female main character (like Chihayafuru) is fine, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a sport anyone cares about (Again, like Chihayafuru :v:).

Stuff I've already read/seen is Teppuu, Chihayafuru, and Bamboo Blade. I liked them all, so pretty much any mix of serious/comedy is cool by me, the only caveat is that it has to treat the sport seriously. Bamboo Blade was mostly a vehicle for dumb gags, but it still made Kendo seem really cool and interesting.

They're not the main characters, but Momoki and Maki get plenty of pages in All Rounder Meguru and would fit right in with the Teppu cast. It's a pretty realistic MMA manga, you might want to give it a shot if you haven't!

Yawara fits the bill. The manga is basically what put Urasawa Naoki on the map. It's got a bit of drama and lots of comedy though it doesn't go really deep into the Judo since the story is more about Yawara's life than the sport. The manga last I looked is partially translated and there's a 124 episode series that is fully subbed.

No, not at all.

The one good thing about Blood-C is that it takes the Blood formula of "Saya is an unstoppable killing machine, but everyone constantly trips over themselves to protect and coddle her despite being squishy humans themselves" and makes it ironic. (Because it's all an act so that Fumiko can manipulate her into being the perfect waifu or whatever the hell he's trying to do. Instead of being portrayed as a good thing, her klutzy, naive personality was artificially forced on her in an attempt to control her life.)

It should have been a really neat indictment of how she was characterized in the older series, and when she finally breaks free of it I was looking forward to seeing her live and act as a monster -- maybe not an evil one, but certainly an angry, betrayed, and self-possessed one.

The movie completely fails to deliver on that front. Don't watch it. In fact, to anyone reading this, don't watch Blood-C.

It's a kind of supernatural mystery show. The stories within it usually last 2-3 episodes, and they're very well told, though some can be very abstract and tough to follow sometimes. The show is also really beautifully rendered (IMO).

And is the prettiest thing, in a completely different way to how Mononoke is the prettiest thing. Ghost Hound I vaaaaaaaguely remember being good. Got a good OP, at least;

Then there's... Ghost Hunt...? :geno: I remember not being terribly impressed with it, but I think it's probably worth a look if you like the genre?

Jigoku Shoujo! Was great and I have no reservations about recommending it whatsoever.

Red Garden. Was that a mystery? Or horror, even? It was a tragedy, at least. And a musical! :haw:

More to the mystery side there's... Boogiepop Phantom? It's kinda vague and dreamlike in the same way that Serial Experiments Lain was vague and dreamlike. Might be fun to watch, if you haven't already seen it. I think it's the most Paranoia Agent-esque of all of these.
