/\/\/\/\/\ gently caress that noise, there's only one specific part they'd be missing and it's pretty much a slog if you've already seen the anime. That was my experience, at least; I didn't enjoy the manga until I got caught up to where the anime was at the time.

Here's a link to Attack on Titan manga starting at Annie, Eren, and Armin in the tunnel having a friendly chat about female titans. http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/32 If you start here it'll only take a couple hours to finish the rest of them.

Also, if it has been a while since you read manga, remember that it's right-to-left instead of left to right. Speech bubbles in a panel on the right come before speech bubbles on the left, same with panel structure.

This may be a stupid question but, as I was looking for a translation of the Vogel im Käfig lyrics it came to me... why are these lyrics in German?! In fact why are so many of the lyrics, not only of this particular anime, in German? More generally speaking why are most characters names, their look, the architecture, etc European inspired?

Seems to me that the creators of these things would want their (generally young) audience to easily identify with the characters, in that light it makes no sense for everything to be seemingly eurocentric given that msot of their audience is asian.
What gives? Is it just that I haven't seen much anime? While that is true when I think about it it looks like most anime is eurocentric in names/looks at least. Does it have something to do with post war laws like the pixels in porn?

Sorry for the derail but once I started to think about it it's been eating me up. Can it be a coincidence and the artists just do it for "aesthetic reasons"? I could buy that for some, but for most? Is there even an equivalent in the west of a certain type of media portraying it's characters as being from another race? I can't come up with anything.

I always figured that Isayama had either visited or heard about Rothenburg (medieval walled town in Germany that is extremely popular with Japanese tourists specifically) and then decided to write a manga inspired by that. The town certainly looks very similar to his setting.

Wow, that last bit after the credits was kinda poorly conveyed. I didn't know what it meant until you guys discussed it and linked it up to where it happened in the manga. Really odd the way they handled that; I think they could have done better. Kind of a sour way to end the season, but hey, season 2 to look forward to.

Huh, the arc sure ended in a shonen as heck way.

With all the arguments about how this is a show where guts and willpower isn't enough, Eren won by.....willpower. Okay. At least the fight looked rather nice! I was really underwhelmed by it all though. Not really a fan of how all their plans for capturing the female titan kept going wrong because Annie kept pulling out new powers, even at the very end.

I don't think it was willpower so much as it was Eren's psychopathy. Eren being a psychopath is my favourite thing about this show.

It's really because it was just thrown there at the end. It was infinitely better handled in the manga.

Yup. The top brass absolutely know the deep dark secret of the titans, considering they built the in the first place. So they have some technique to manufacture titans, and used them as the building blocks of the walls.

I think it ties into the Armin and Jean's becoming monsters speech. I think the feral titans are some kind of biological superweapon gone horribly wrong, and it was the rampant abuse of their powers some hundred years back that led to the current situation. That must be the reason why the King doesn't utilise more of them.

Well, time to see you guys in the manga thread later!

No kidding. Please heed the warning. Also please don't act smug about only watching the anime you look like an idiot. Nobody does that.

I don't get peoples surprise about Eren at the end of the episode. The anime has been focusing heavy on how his Titan form is taking more and more control over him. Even the poo poo he says gets more and more creepy. Has anybody paid attention to it? The manga hasn't done as good of a job as the anime in that area. Even his face looks like its starting to become a skinless titan.

The ending is pretty loving stupid finally seeing it. Ruins the entire punch of it without anybody around being shocked.
