It's an animation that's not Pixar. People are very weary of those, plus the "those are for kids" crowd that still exists. But really, it's a great movie. Probably the best animation I watched in recent times.

Holy poo poo, some of these reviews are golden. quote:Norman jokingly says he was watching sex and violence on the television, which raises two red flags. First, I do not condone my children lying to me. I am worried that this "joke" will encourage my children it is okay to lie to me. Secondly, my twelve year old son is at the age where teenage boys typically begin to "Explore" sex: (porn, masturbation, etc.) Now, I am fearful this movie will expedite that process. I don't want him going behind my back and purchasing porn movies on pay per view because this movie gave him the knowledge that one can watch sex on television. My 12 year old son tricked me into renting ParaNorman, now he's going to be masturbating all over the place! One Star!

Yeah I'm sure this movie clued him in to there being sex on the television. I hope nobody does a movie about porn on the internet!

I watched Fargo last night and it was definitely good, but I was a little disappointed. I've seen most of the Coens' movies and love most of them. No Country for Old Men is a perfect movie, and True Grit is close to it. Barton Fink is a great exploration of alienation. Fargo was just a regular good movie.

No, the best part is how brazenly unapologetic they are for doing it; the trailer for their next film shows gay and lesbian families.

Hellraiser 3 is fun, but I wouldn't call it good. Watch it if the idea of cenobytes arriving in a 90s industrial goth music club with a white-collar restaurant on the second floor sounds like a laugh to you.

The AV Club's TV Roundtable just did an extensive article on the Dr. Who episode "Blink" (which I made too big a deal of last page) as the first of a five-part series this month spotlighting the best and scariest standalone episodes of popular series. And I only bring it up again because it just so happens that their first three choices are available on Netflix Streaming right now: Doctor Who, "Blink" (Season 3, Episode 10) Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Hush" (Season 4, Episode 10) The X-Files, "Home" (Season 4, Episode 2) Having seen all three, that's the start of a drat fine list. Might be a good chance to try out a series you've never seen before or revisit an old favorite.

Hellraiser V has been sitting in my Netflix queue for a while, because someone on here recommended it, but I still haven't gotten around watching it. Hellraiser III turned Pinhead into a standard one-liner spewing horror dude. This is where they start getting really, really dumb Cenobite designs. It does have a pre-DS9 Terry Farrell. I like how it kinda-sorta-not-really keeps continuity with the second movie. The first five minutes might fool you into thinking it's going to be awesome, but... Hellraiser: Bloodlines is an interesting concept that is WAY too ambitious for the budget, actors, writers, and director involved. Hellraiser: Inferno is the first DTV release. It's not that great of a movie, but it's a relief to see a more subdued and coherent story compared to the increasingly grandiose last three movies. I haven't bothered with any of the other ones. I was somewhat surprised to see a 2011 entry that did not involve Doug Bradley, although I think I remember reading on here somewhere that it was an ashcan copy. The first four movies are required watching if you are a fan of 80s/90s industrial music - Frontline Assembly, Skinny Puppy, and Ministry sampled the hell out of them (also the NIN song Sanctified is based on the second movie). I always get a kick of recognizing samples in movies. In a completely unrelated note, the X-Files episode F. I'd be interested to find out what the general consensus is of Paranorman amongst kids. Whenever I talk to kids about cartoons, it never gets mentioned.

Maybe you all overhyped it, or maybe I'm just desensitized and not easily shocked. My girlfriend watched it with me and she hates anything "horror", but she wasn't very terrified either. Really the episode just felt gross. To me the incest fell flat and was very predictable. The episode opened strong with the infanticide. But it steadily went downhill from there. I enjoyed watching this and plan on starting the X-Files now, but this was not horrifying to me.

It did come out nearly 20 years ago. I think it's hard to have something carry the same impact after a pretty huge saturation of horror stuff since then. I wish the Lance Henrickson series Millennium was on streaming. It was a pretty good series with fun X-files crossovers.

I'm old enough to have watched X-files through when it was new, which was pretty awesome. For about a year after home aired I used to hum that "Wonderful, wonderful" song and my ex wife would get the creeps and go "Ugh, stop it" every time. And yeah Millennium was pretty good for at least one season. At least you can get it on disc, I'm gonna rent the first one and see how it holds up.
