Anything you can do I can do BETTER
Played a bit more of Alternative, not too much since yesterday when I posted.
The Brain Being Sumika, I kind of assumed at this point, but her being the 00 Unit took me by surprise.
Like Takeru I was assuming it was a Machine or a TSF or something.
The only thing I'm not 100% on, and it may just be me reading too fast. So, Sumika was the brain and was kept alive by the BETA poo poo, that's why the base is there. But, then Yuuko goes onto say when she completed the 00 Unit she killed the brain and put it's "Soul" into the Fake Sumika Body, so the Brain isn't actually in that body, there's a fake brain and spine and nervous system and stuff. Is that right, or did I get that all wrong and the Brain is totally in that body? If it's not, how the hell is she still Sumika then? Unless Kasumi was taking the Brain memories and projecting them into the Fake Sumika body?
Aside from that I've gotten back to being able to enjoy the game Marimo's death(s) hit me hard, when he was back in his World Branch and they are setting up death flags for 2nd Marimo I was actually getting mad at the game "Ohh you fuckers better not do it again." haha, but not Sumika's accident oddly enough. Once they got into the Causality stuff I figured something would happen to Sumika since it was obvious she's the Brain. I also like that they've thrown in some new (or returning) characters with the Squad they joined. Nice to see Kashiwagi and Suzumiya again.

I think Yuuko more or less transferred Sumika's consciousness from the brain into the 00 unit, but its been a while so I forget for sure. Regarding the new team, they're not the only people "returning". All those characters are from previous Age games. None of them are translated, but Hayase and the Suzumiyas are from Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, which has an anime adaption.

Yuuko copied the "contents" of the brain in the jar to the 00 Unit, but the process of doing so destroyed the original brain, killing Sumika. Maybe they had to slice it into thin strips or something, who knows. The 00 Unit is not Sumika, it's a robot housing a copy of her mind.

Also, fun fact: most of the new characters are heroines in AGE's previous works, and the ones that not were retroactively introduced in the remakes.

I finished Fate the other day. Overall I liked it, despite Saber being really boring. There were a few things that bugged me though, things such as Rider's identity, Assassin and Caster's master, Caster herself being kind of introduced and offed way too quickly, Lancer being underutilized(oh, and his original master), EVERYTHING about Archer(Rin's). Also Ilya was kinda backstaged despite being the Holy Grail's vessel, figured she'd be a lot more central on that fact alone. Whatever though her being basically the star of the Tiger Dojo is great by itself. Oh, and overall the route definitely felt like its purpose was character building, which isn't a bad thing mind you. I imagine some if not all of these are addressed and expanded upon with the other two routes. :v:

Not far into UBW. Basically The end of the 4th day where Taiga and Sakura stay with Shirou as well, but keeping Saber in their room. It's kind of funny how things changed so much by the simple fact that Archer didn't get chopped by Saber. I can only imagine things will only escalate from here~

I will say that every single one of those things are in the other two routes, except for Lancer's original master. You're gonna have to wait till Hollow Ataraxia for that one.

Apparently Reddit followed in Katawa Shoujo's footsteps. Another fan-made visual novel in English: The Human Reignition Project

quote:

Alienworks Games would like to present to you the official announcement of our first large-scale Original English Visual Novel, The Human Reignition Project! After almost a year of weekly meeting, outlining, and writing, we’re finally ready to step into the spotlight. It’s been a long ride, and we appreciate your support and patience as we slowly but surely make our way to our goal of a well-polished, finished project. Without further ado, we present The Human Reignition Project.

PLOT OVERVIEW

In the near future, mankind remains much the same as it is in the modern day. There are no flying cars. There are no robots, no incredible new world order. However, as is natural with the passage of time, society has changed. Technology and modern conveniences have become so widespread and accessible that just about anyone can easily fill their lives with luxurious simplicity. As a result, the general workings of modern life have changed. Many formerly hectic processes and occupations have become obsolete or entirely digital. In drastic contrast with the size and population of cities, birth rates have long ago plummeted to all-time lows and still continue to drop. The modern world is slowly dying. However, the spread of technology has not completely affected everyone. There are still those who would seek the ways of older days. In a small university in an immense city, one man seeks to change the future; not through violence, but through education and reason. Deep in this city, a small group of unsuspecting students will learn many things from this man; about the old world, the current world, and even about themselves.

GAME OVERVIEW

The Human Reignition Project is a branching, character-driven slice-of-life story focusing on the importance of human connections and selflessness, and the dangers of self-centeredness. It is a visual novel novel featuring six heroines and full, developed side characters. The game will be free, and has an estimated budget of $5,000, of which nearly all will be spent on art assets in the hopes of providing the best visuals possible to compliment our story. Our goal, aside from releasing a high-quality visual novel for free, is to learn about the development process of the English Visual Novel market, discover the best development and business methods for the medium, and apply those methods to our future games.

Near the end of Uminenko Chapter 5. probably. So we're having an answer ceremony now? Okay then. So it seems that no one else died in the game. Interesting. Natsuhi is pretty much the prime suspect I'd imagine. Not sure who else could have killed Eve's husband.

Edit: Welp, looks like I was right. I'm guessing she didn't do it though. Looks like this is more like an actual trail. I guess Battler can finally use his Phoenix Wright pose in the appropriate setting.

Edit2: This crossing off the list of possible objections is pretty neat.

Edit3: What? She put her ear to the wall and listen to his breathing? First of all how the hell can she distinguish Battler's breathing from the rest? That's quite the stretch.

Edit4: So wait, if Erika made sure to make it impossible for anyone to make it to the second floor without passing through the lobby where she would have seen anyone enter from 12:00 to 3:00 and it's established that the crime was committed before 3:00 then how the hell would Natsuhi commit the crime? She might have gone a tiny bit too far in providing alibis.

Edit5: Okay I see, I misremembered. She didn't watch the lobby all night. Just from 1:00 to 3:00

Edit6: Well if the crime took place between 12:00 and 1:00 then how do they explain Rosa's death? I believe her body was found right next to Maria's. She arrived back in the guesthouse at 1:00. This was witnessed by Erika.

Edit:7 "~ and murdered George, Jessica, Maria, Rosa and Genji during the one hour period before 1AM"
Um, no Rosa was still very much alive during the period, Erika can confirm that.

Edit8: "Living Kinzo cannot exist anywhere except in your bed" I don't like where they're going with this.

Yeah that was pretty rough.

Finished Chapter 5 Well I was right in that the time of death was off. Though I find it weird that they never brought up the Rosa thing. I mean the main theory Erika had at the point was that all 5 of them including Rosa were killed between 12:00 and 1:00 when it's was mentioned from multiple sources that 1:00 is the time Rosa returned from the mansion. Erika definitely saw her, hell in fact Rosa returning was a marker that signified the time being 1:00 and the beginning of her surveillance of the lobby. When your theory is that someone is suppose to be dead by a certain time and you witness them alive during that time then that is a massive hole in that theory.

Still not sure what Battler's theory was about. I'm guessing he woke up and screamed and Erika stopped listening to the sound coming from the cousin's room to check everyone's alibis and used that time to kill the cousins? But even then the scream would have woken up the cousins. Nanjo would have been on the scene before he could have killed them. Unless I'm interpreting it wrong. Where they alive at that time? I'm not sure. And nothing in that theory could explain how he could have killed Genji. The entire thing with Genji was he was in the waiting room from at least 1am and never left as Eva had put the seal on his door. Battler did not leave the meeting until 3am. And it was made clear that the seal to the door was not broken until Kanon did it the next morning which by then Genji was already dead. I'm not sure how any theory could have had Battler killing him.

I'm quite curious how Battler will be as a game master. Looking forward to chapter 6.

Battler's theory is pretty straightforward; nobody died at that time in EP5 (well, excluding Krauss, since we do have red for his death). Rosa and the cousins were never dead, Battler's scream was just a ruse. Even when everyone gathered in the cousins' room, even then they still weren't dead. Erika never checked the corpses, so she wouldn't have any way of knowing, even with her detective's authority. And everyone except Erika and Natsuhi were helping to move things along. Then the 'corpses' simply walked out of the room, which is how the bodies disappeared. Then at some point later in the game, they were killed. Battler hypothesized that he was the one orchestrating things, but really just about anyone could have.

Probably because, lacking existing channels to connect with decent artists, they mostly have to beg for volunteers on message boards/chatrooms/DeviantArt/tumblr, and having a smaller expected audience (who are used to getting this sort of thing through less-than-legal means) they can't afford to throw as much money into the development process.

VNs in Japan, or at least the VNs we see over here, are big business, created by people with established experience and lots of money. VNs in English, apart from notable exceptions like Christine Love and also the Magical Diary people, are generally amateur efforts, often made without much of an artistic vision except to imitate an art form they like from afar. In addition, there a lot more Japanese VNs, and the process of translation and discovery basically means we only see the very very best.

The difference in apparent quality is inevitable. Still, remember, however bad this reddit game turns out being, it will still probably be better than the crappy child rape eroges that proliferate in Japan, that we simply don't see talked about over here.

Battler's "theory" can't be true and he knows it. It's been said in Red that Battler is not the culprit, so any theory that relies on Battler being the culprit is instantly denied. Of course, Erika had also conveniently ignored the Red that Natsuhi is not the culprit either. Both theories are false! :v:

I had forgotten that. Lets see not sure what Battler perspective would have to do with anything. I'm going to continue on my theory that at the time they heard the gong from the clock it was NOT 12:00. It was said in red text that Genji, Krauss and Natsuhi had nothing to do with the knock and the letter. And those in the parlor had nothing to do with the letter.

That leaves those in the guesthouse. Kumasawa & Gohda have alibis with the seals. I recall that Erika put seals on both of their doors and Kumasawa had hers sealed all night and Erika only redid Gohda when Rosa entered the guesthouse at 1:00.

So with those out of the ways not including Erika that would leave George, Jessica, Maria and Nanjo. Erika left the cousins at 12:00 and was with Nanjo for one hour until Rosa returned at 1:00.

That would leave the 3 cousins. Now there is no way to establish any one of their alibis so I guess an educated would be required. Logically since Maria was always the one to have a letters in all the previous chapters, I'm going to point the finger at her.

So that would be my guess.

Edit: Actually thinking about this a little more Maria being the one to deliver the letter could explain the gong. Perhaps if it is big enough Maria could have hidden in the clock and caused it to make the noise.

Higurashi question: I'm vaguely aware the localization had some licensing problems with music or sound effects or something, and that there are patches to undo that, but there's a difference for patching between the localized version sold in two parts and some other version sold as individual chapters or something. The first half (Higurashi) is simple enough, because it was only ever released as a bundle of the first four chapters. The second half (Higurashi Kai) however was released one chapter at a time, and the patches/hacks were put together as they came out. So they only work with the individual chapter releases; no one bothered to make a new one for the Kai bundle that later came out.
