I like the look of that Fix, that ODD is cool. I always thought the hacker effects didn't quite work but that works for me, somehow.

One thing though about your ALEPH scheme - are the steel phalanx warriors & characters intended to be different to the GiTS style lhosts like the Vanilla models (Asuras, Devas, Posthumans etc.)? I've been painting mine all my minis with very inhuman looking tones and was going to keep that style for any of the characters I did.

If you go by the Campaign Paradiso fluff, it says that the Assault Subsection troops were made to look human in order to fit in more easily with other soldiers, whereas the Operations models look more obviously artificial.

They're designed to represent the best of humanity to unite the human factions against the EI. Which is also why they're built as the Greek heroes.

Yeah, the fluff in the books is pretty good to be fair to it. It isn't what a lot of people expect as it's mostly politically driven and quite dense.

Also jesus gently caress my Corregidor box is flash-tastic and missing limbs all over the loving place. I think this is the worst box I've ever had from CB. My Hellcat has three assault rifle arms but no knife. My Alguacil has that thin sort of foil-flash all over her body and it's just a bit. :psyduck:

Converting metal models is sometimes easy and often very difficult.

On the other hand Heavy Gear models (1/144 giant robots) come with absolutely loads of "Autocannons" and "Bazookas" that work out about the same size as 28mm wielded weapons, but in all sorts of cool designs like not-AKs, boxy AUG-type guns and so on. I clipped a combi-rifle off one of my Devas and replaced it with one of them which ended up slightly bigger than a combi-rifle and looking completely different, so I figure I could use it as a counts-as Spitfire.

Does anyone have any tips for using Devabots well? I fielded some today in a couple of games and found to use them I had to run my Devas (which unlike most Aleph don't have any stealth at all) really close to the enemy (8" ZOC for the Devabot, and a HFT really needs to get closer than I'd like). ARM2 doesn't really cut it for a Lt, even with NWI (because my opponents learned to ignore the remotes and get around to shoot the operators).

Are they better as a counterpunch unit rather than an aggressive one? My best success was a boarding shotgun Myrmidon laying smoke for the Deva and Devabot to advance, then they managed to kill an Order Sergeant and a Magister Knight.

Flipswitch
Mar 30, 2010

My mate uses his Devabots/Devas as I use Auxilia, basically counter-attack units. It's very hard to position well when there is a Devabot/Auxbot floating around nearby because it doesn't take very long for it to be pumped and spray that HFT over the offending unit. They're also good last-resort for camo attacks.

Yeah that's usually a good sign to take a break buddy. :)

Why would you want a Devabot LT close to the enemy? Their bot is a defensive one. What you want on the offense is to either suicide strike the bot against valuable targets (ODD/TO Camo, HI, link teams) and make the enemy divide his fire against the Deva and the bot (remember that if it's a link team/total reaction/neurocinetics, each model may only ARO-shoot against 1 specific unit, no splitting burst in ARO).

Sephyr
Aug 28, 2012
What others said. Most times your Devabot will be a defense against people rounding corners, dropping via AD, or relying on ODDs to approach.

To use it offensively, you will usually need smoke covers or a really aggressive enemy that leaves worthwile units nearby. If you have a Chain or Command model you may try and sacrifice a wound on the Deva and his bot to flamer something really vital (a TO heavy infantry or TAG). But usually, he is there to add punch to your general advance, not to go forward and rambo things.

Thanks everyone for the advice; I did find the flamethrower was great when it worked.

I still need to learn to play more defensively, especially against pain in the rear end armies like Military Orders which have lots of nice armour and BS.

On the other hand, I discovered the joys of an Aleph mirror match today; a kind of ludicrous slapfight as everyone has mimetism, camo or ODD but not enough MSV to do anything about it.

I could use some advice in fleshing out a good starting list for two starter boxes for a 200pt stater game. I just want to have a good rounded selection of mans and I don't really know the rules well enough to make informed decisions.

I have:

- Haqqislam Starter (3 x Ghulam w/ Rifle & Light SG, Naffatun w/ Rifle % Light FT, Janissaire w/ AP Rifle, Hunzakut w/ Sniper) + Saladin

- PanOceania Military Orders (3 x Order Sargeant w/ Combi Rifle, Magister Knight w/ Panzerfaust, Specialist Sargeant w/ Multisniper, Teutonic Knight w/ Combi Rifle & Panzerfaust)

Ideally I just want to add a few models to make it a fair and balance match. I bought the boxes based on the look of the models so hopefully these aren't painfully bad decisions!

Flipswitch

For MO you can expand up with either Crusader Brethren to give you some AD options, a Magister box if you want to work towards that way, or some additional HI like a Knight of Santiago for rounding out the HI options. I'd ALWAYS recommend a Spec Sergeant Spitfire though, it's a VERY useful option for MSV2, or just taking an Order Sergeant for rounding out your link team options. For example:

For Haqq... I'm not as sure as I don't play them, only QK (and even then, very rarely!), but you can easily look into a Lasiq (either variant) another blister of Naffatun with HFTs. Possibly Ragiks for drop troops.

Holy gently caress what's people's deal with the new bases? CB makes an awesome new base that doesn't need extra holes filled, has magnet holders, and all I hear is waah waah cutting slots is too hard. I'd gladly trade my old-style slottabases for these new ones, they're that good (BTW, if anyone knows if they are sold separately somewhere, let me know).

And more to the point: these bases actually save a lot of time in greenstuffing/filling extra holes in standard ones, especially once you get to models with shorter tabs. You're looking for :effort: in the wrong place.

This is definitely true, cutting out space for the slot is the best, having to GS over three quarters of the open slot was awful.

Thirded and fourth'd. A big factor in me dragging my feet over giving my infinity custom bases was the hassle of filling/covering in all the giant slots. I've managed to get over it for my ALEPH and give them passable urban bases, but my nomads are still waiting, probably because they have even more of those tiny tabs.

OK people, I need some list advice. Or more like help in solving a puzzle.
I'm making a 300pt JSA ITS list (Supply Run/Frontline/Em. Transmission). I came up with this:

JAPANESE SECTORIAL ARMY
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

GROUP 1 10 0 7

HARAMAKI Missile Launcher / Pistol, DA CCW. (1.5 | 47)
HARAMAKI Blitzen, Combi Rifle / Pistol, DA CCW. (33)
HARAMAKI Blitzen, Contender / Pistol, DA CCW. (28)
HARAMAKI Blitzen, Contender / Pistol, DA CCW. (28)
HARAMAKI Blitzen, Contender / Pistol, DA CCW. (28)
ARAGOTO Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 29)
ARAGOTO Lieutenant Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 25)
KEMPEI (Chain of Command) Combi Rifle / Pistol, CCW, Electric Pulse. (24)
RUI SHI Spitfire / Electric Pulse. (1 | 25)
GUĬ FĒNG (BTS-9, Engineer, Hacking Device, Holoprojector L1) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (13 | 12XP)

GROUP 2 1 0 0

Yaókòng HÙSÒNG HMG, Antipersonnel Mines / Electric Pulse. (1 | 28)

5.5 SWC | 308 Points

Open with Army 4

I'm sure you see the problem. It's 8 points over the limit, and I can't really decide where to shave the points because:
- The Haramaki combo is a monolith
- Not taking spitfire on an Aragoto wastes SWC and gives little
- Kempei is essential for an Aragoto LT
- No way in hell I'm getting rid of the Gui Feng (besides, he's needed for the bots).

That leaves the remotes. I'm thinking of getting rid of the Husong (Rui Shi will come in handy as there's quite a bit of Aleph and general TO), but that leaves me with 28 points and a full combat group. No idea how to go around this and what to put in so that the list is still coherent and can haul rear end (requirement). Help? :ohdear:

ed: Also, I can't see the problem with Emauler Zero. Just pin one leg and epoxy-glue the separate one to the base?

Funny as hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.
I would just change the gui-feng (Unless you really enjoy your overkill CG hacker) and the combi rifle haramaki into a contender, you end up with a force that is effectively the same:

Yu Jing - Japanese Sectorial Army | 11 models
________________________________________________________

Combat Group #1
Guǐ Fēng Combi (+2 bts, Engineer, Hacker (Hacking Device), Holoprojector L1) (9|0|12xp)
Haramaki DA CCW (28|0)

Haramaki DA CCW (28|0)
Haramaki DA CCW (28|0)
Haramaki ML (47|1.5)
Aragoto Spitfire (29|1.5)
Aragoto Lieutenant (25|0.5)
Rui Shi (25|1)
Kempei CC (24|0)
Combat Group #2
Husong HMG (28|1)
________________________________________________________

299/300 points | 5.5/6 swc
open with Aleph Toolbox : http://goo.gl/VuJLp6

Edit: If you want to get rid of the Husong, maybe try something like this: Yu Jing - Japanese Sectorial Army | 10 models
________________________________________________________

Guǐ Fēng Combi (-0 bts, Engineer, Chain of Command, Doctor) (11|0|12xp)
Yaozao (3|0)
Haramaki DA CCW (28|0)
Haramaki DA CCW (28|0)
Haramaki DA CCW (28|0)
Haramaki ML (47|1.5)
Rui Shi (25|1)
Aragoto Spitfire (29|1.5)
Aragoto Lieutenant (25|0.5)
Aragoto Hacker (37|0.5)
Karakuri Combi (39|0)
________________________________________________________

300/300 points | 5/6 swc

It gives you a larger range of specialists for scenarios (4 compared to the original list of 3), a palbot for the gui-feng (or just straight upgrade him/her to a CG, or just get rid of the palbot and downgrade him to upgrade LT into kisaragi) and is all in one combat group. Although having a husong in its own group isn't a massive deal I guess! I just really like the karakuri for scenarios just because a HI forward observer isn't something that crops up too often in other lists.
