There is nothing wrong with anything Big Beef City has said unless you think it's shameful to receive government assistance, and it isn't. He's not making light of anyone's bad circumstances, he's saying if you're eligible for help then you should take advantage of it because you deserve to do so.

It is entirely possible to be sympathetic/empathetic and tell someone they are being loving ridiculous for not getting benefits they are entitled to because they are worried some ignorant dipshit might look down on them.

Yea unless I'm missing a post where he said 'get the benefits you are entitled to (you loving stupid pig)' everything Beef has said has been right here.

I got laid off on Wednesday. Turns out there is a distinct downside to working for a company that sells things to the government when it shuts down. I was a new hire who just spend his nest egg to move up here and now I have nothing. It isn't even clear if they are going to fully compensate for the expenses incurred getting here - even if they pay for the old lease I had to break, I really doubt they will pay for breaking the new one I signed. So I had to apply for benefits. Applying for help is one of the hardest things I have had to do. I fully understand what Walter is going through. And you are being a complete poo poo about it.

Actually if your company sold things to the government when it shuts down, it would be booming right now.

But seriously, grow the hell up. You honestly had a hard time taking something that you are entitled to, that you paid for, that you needed? There's a lot of reasons why the upper class is dominating the class warfare and one of them is because people on the bottom are afraid to take what belongs to them. Enjoy your food, you deserve it and there's no shame in it.

There's not really any reason not to take advantage of food stamps if you're in a bad situation, but there's also no real justification for being overly hostile and/or calling someone childish when they want to avoid doing something that society irrationally stigmatizes.

Rush Limbaugh posted:

...
The Democrats were crying wolf about the sequester: "Oh, my God, Medicare, Medicaid, defense, oh, no!" Nothing happened. The sky didn't fall. The world didn't come to an end, and it hasn't here with the so-called shutdown. By the way, the shutdown, only 17% of things are shut down. Now, they reinstituted the Amber Alert website. Did you know they shut that down? Did you get your alert over the weekend, your Amber Alert? I got my first one on my phone. I looked and said, "What the hell?" All three phones went off. And I said, "I could have sworn I had two of these things on 'do not disturb.'" And they were. They were on "do not disturb" and the stupid alert still permeated a "do not disturb."
...
The federal workers never lose their money! It's always reimbursed! In fact, the 1995 government shutdown, something I just remembered, Clinton went to the public employee union guys and struck a deal with them. The deal was that they would be reimbursed if they would simply raise hell about losing their jobs because of the shutdown. Now, this was before the shutdown went into effect because of the optics, everybody on the Democrat side, Clinton, wanted to embarrass Newt and the Republicans. And, of course, as far as the media's concerned, the government shut down, the Republicans got creamed. But in reality they didn't.

The media optics were bad for the Republicans, but reality wasn't. And what's missing in this shutdown, the optics are not hurting. You got Jay Carney out there saying, "Oh, the president will negotiate any day, every day. All year he's been willing to negotiate." That tells me that they are losing in the polling data. That tells me they are losing this shutdown business over Obamacare because they are seen as the ones who won't negotiate. I know it might seem like chump change and no big deal, but there are apparently a lot of voters to whom that is a big deal, the two parties sitting down and working together, getting along and trying to come to a compromise. And in this one the Democrats are the ones who appear mean, extreme, and uncompromising.
...
To the extent that you and I want our leaders to acquire power, it's to deemphasize Washington in everybody's life, not to grow it. We're not interested in getting control of the money in order to spend it so that we can buy love and buy support. That's not who we are. But the establishment of our party is just like the establishment of the Democrats and that's the attraction is all of that money, and the committee chairmanships.
...
But you see the Republican establishment is considering the House GOP "the stupid wing of the Republican Party," but it's not them who are drowning. I think it's interesting. People that are inside the Beltway think that's what's happening. People inside the Beltway who make the news of the Beltway, who consume it, who basically live the Washington narrative every day are just convinced the Republicans are just embarrassing themselves and losing humiliatingly bad -- when I don't think that that's really what's happening out there.
...
It seems like the Republican strategy has been, "Let's cave on this and we'll take it to them in three months. That's when the really big one's going to hit. That's when we're going to raise the debt limit." That comes along and we shelve that, we cave on that, we move on to the next one. Every time we get to the next one, we cave and move to the next one. Every time we get to the next one and we're really going to mount the fight, somebody comes up and says, "You know, this would be a bad time.

"This is the wrong time. Go ahead and cave on this. There's much bigger stuff ahead. We'll tackle it on the next one." So this is the quintessential, "Let's cave here. We're looking dumb. We're looking stupid. I'm embarrassed as a Republican! I want to focus on winning the Senate and then we'll take it to them." That's what's happening here.
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2...jaws_of_victory
Pretty funny how he goes on and on about how everyone is just out to embarrass the Republican party when they do a perfectly fine job of embarrassing themselves.

RUSH: Here's Bill Moyers, and this is from Moyers and Company on PBS on Friday night, and this one is typical. He said stuff like this before, but for some reason I live rent free in these people's heads.

MOYERS: The Tea Party minority armed with huge sums of secret money from rich donors sucked the last bit of soul from the grand old party of Abraham Lincoln. They became delusional, then rabid, like this from the multimillionaire fabulist Rush Limbaugh.

RUSH: (Archived) What we now have is the biggest tax increase in the history of the world. Obamacare is just a massive tax increase. That's all it is.

MOYERS: That's just a tiny sample of the lies and misinformation perpetrated by the right with the song and dance compliance of its richly paid mouthpieces.

RUSH: Now, Moyer's not exactly a freeloader, poor guy out there. Moyers has been given I don't know how many millions, multiple millions over the years by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to put out his propaganda. What is a fabulist, a multimillionaire fabulist? It is a huge tax increase. It's one of the largest tax increases we've ever had.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

When he retired in 2004, Bill Moyers told the Associated Press, "I'm going out telling the story..." Now, this is nine years ago and he's still there. He told the AP when he retired in 2004, "I'm going out telling the story that I think is the biggest story of our time." Bill Moyers says it's the "biggest story of our time and that is how the right wing media has become a Republican propaganda arm of the Republican National Committee.

"We have an ideological press that's interested in the election of Republicans and a mainstream press interested in the bottom line. Therefore we don't have a vigilant independent media whose interest is the American people." Could this guy be more wrong? I don't think he could be more wrong, and this guy's one of the deans of journalism by reputation. If there is any propaganda arm in media, it is the mainstream media, the Democrats.
They are not even news people anymore!

They're just activists and hacks, liberals and Democrats who are disguised as journalists, and they don't "care about the bottom line." They want to be independent of the bottom line. They don't want any of those pressures. No propaganda here.

I ve always worried that the reason Boehner is going on with this. When barry told him "no" is because he knows he will be eaten alive if the dems didnt fold and defund the ACA. Someone in the party has go do down for this.

What weird is that they want to call him a rino and accuses him of working with Obama...isnt it the speaker of the houses job to work the white house? well I assume that would be normal.

Bit of a derail, but the sales guys at my company use a galaxy s4 for everything. It has a sweet dock that can connect up to a monitor and keyboard all of which fits in a small bag. They just VPN in and connect on over to their citrix desktop and do whatever they need to do. drat things actually have enough video/cpu horsepower to do it pretty painlessly once you get used to the setup.

Using high powered tablets/phones for everything is the future, even if the Fox setup is incredibly stupid. It would suck working on those all day and looking down at the monitor is going to cause neck problems. There is a reason that you generally put monitors at around eye level. Also the distance that your hand has to move between typing and selecting something on the touch screen would be significant enough to make a mouse far more effective, rendering the large and rather expensive touch screens largely redundant.

Use the anger. Use it.

quote:

RUSH: Bill in Billings, Montana. You're next. Great to have you. Hi.

CALLER: How you doing?

RUSH: Good. Good. Great to have you with us.

CALLER: Hey, I wanted to call and get right to the point. I'm one of those nonessential furloughed federal workers who happens to be a budget analyst. I'm also a retired 20-year Navy veteran, and I wanted to clarify what (unintelligible) the Speaker of the House, Boehner doesn't even know what it means when you go past the debt ceiling. Default means you can't pay your interest on your debt. Our interest is about $220 billion a year.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: This year, we're gonna take in more money in revenue into the Treasury than ever before, about $2.5 trillion. And that's with a $700 billion tax increase in January. We're still gonna be short $700 billion.

RUSH: 2.25. So your point is we won't default. Even if we default, we still would collect enough tax revenue every month to pay the interest on the debt.

CALLER: You only have to pay about 20 or $30 billion a month and take in somewhere between $250 and 300 billion a month.

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: That's gonna force President Obama and his cabinet --

RUSH: Wait a minute. Did you say Boehner doesn't know this?

CALLER: He comes out and says we're gonna default, you know, if we go past the debt ceiling, we're gonna default to the country. We're not gonna default to the country. If you can pay the interest on your debt, you do not default. That means the money that comes into the Treasury, just like what comes into your pocket every month that you earn, you have to live on. And that's what President Obama and his cabinet are gonna have to do if we default. They're gonna have to live within their budget, they have to make cuts 'cause they don't have any borrowing authority.

RUSH: Well, now, Obama --

CALLER: Does that make sense?

RUSH: Well, yeah, that makes total sense except Obama said that raising the debt limit does not mean we go into more debt.

CALLER: It does. We do go into more debt. (crosstalk)

RUSH: No, no, I know that, I'm just telling you what the president says. The president says that raising the debt limit shouldn't bother anybody. It doesn't mean that we're gonna add to the debt. It just means we're gonna pay our bills.

CALLER: Well, he's inhaling again.

RUSH: What?

CALLER: He's inhaling again.

RUSH: Oh, inhaling. Inhaling.

CALLER: Yeah. He doesn't know what he's talking about. He's trying to fool the low-information voter.

RUSH: You're saying that Obama's out with the choom gang again, eh?

CALLER: He must be, because that is what a default is and if you borrow more money you go into more debt, just like me and you, except the greatest things the Republicans could do is stick to their guns, don't borrow any more money, don't approve the debt limit, and force them to live within a budget.

RUSH: Since you brought this up, I've got conflicting information. I read two things this morning, I don't know which one's accurate, and I hope one of them is. The thing I read was that Boehner was gonna do what I suggested yesterday -- and not because of me, don't misunderstand -- but he was gonna come up with a short-term debt limit thing of a couple of months so as not to lose momentum that they've got going on Obamacare. And then I read that he had pulled back from that and was gonna combine the two, which I think strategically is a mistake. I think they need to stay separated.

CALLER: I think they should combine the two and go play golf. The House of Representatives. And don't say another word --

RUSH: Well, okay, look. I appreciate that, too. Just get the hell out of Dodge and spare us all. I understand that. But one thing before we go 'cause time is short. He is exactly right, folks. We will not default. We have plenty of tax revenue coming in. Even without this new tax increase, we have tax revenue sufficient every month to pay the interest on the debt. We will not default. And that's the definition of it. We will not default. We will pay our bills. This is just panic, crisis creation by the regime.
