I think I may have actually figured out a way to cut a corner on this. If I make the outer blade out of Tin Brick, but the rest of the inside of the blade out of regular gray brick, then it should cause a two-tone effect, where the sharper part of the blade is 'shinier' than the rest, and cut down on my having to hunt down Tin significantly! Edit Green Brick would look nice, for the hilt. Would require strip-mining the Dungeon, though. And I'm not sure if it'd end up causing a Dungeon Biome there or not?

After finding out that penguins randomly spawn now in the snow biome, I decided to relocate our base there. Unfortunately, there are a lot of hills and weird geography on the way, and none of our NPCs (guide, merchant, painter and...demolitionist?) have been able to get there. Two are stuck in a tunnel, and one's stuck underwater and apparently will never suffocate. Do I have to go and make a path for these idiots, or do I just wait for something to kill them so they'll respawn?

Just go off about your business. If you spend a bit of time elsewhere on the map, they'll have teleported to their new homes by the time you get back.

I laid out a bunch of snow bricks but the mushroom biome was too close so it kind of overwrites it. However I do still occasionally get a penguin wandering over into my base

You should do some runes on the blade of that sword in lava, otherwise only the edges will be visible once it's filled in.

If it is prehardmode, there is no problem with the cap. In hardmode with a cap of 25 thing start to get interesting. Some tips: -What I did was make a big cave a farming area and used the clentminator to go from hallow/corruption and crimson, to farm the underground banners. - With tshock you can activate or desactivate hardmode. - You can also activate rain, blood moon, the goblin invasion and the eclipse.

Got the ankh shield So I usually play melee but after finding the frost hydra staff I'm trying out magic. Got a magnet sphere. This is pretty fun! It's a little weird having such low defense (it's half of what my melee defense is) but the spectre armor takes care of that. Made it much less lovely to grind for a bezoar. E: I can't loving wait for an eclipse. This hydra is awesome. Also I only need two more broken hero swords to make the terra blade.

People are always trying to come up with suitable living places for the npcs. Stuff like a pirate ship for the pirate or a jungle hut for the witch doctor. But I've been thinking lately it would be fun to make houses for them they would hate. I'm thinking stuff like putting the pirate in a desert biome in the middle of the map as far from the sea as he can get. Or putting the steampunker in a quaint little hobbit hole made only from natural materials in the middle of an idyllic forest. Maybe put the guide in a room above a lava pit with switches set to activate/deactive floor tiles never quite dropping him in but always threatening. And of course, no matter where they're at there'd always be a music box playing the boss theme

Bought this over a year ago, never got into it, saw the 1.2 update drop, made a medium world and have a fair bit of copper and lead and whatever replaces gold & silver. Got lead (=iron?) armour and sword, equivalent of a gold pick, a glow gem thing above my head and no loving clue what to do next. I'm not having much luck with finding updated to 1.2 walkthroughs and all the chat in here seems to be endgame/hardmode. Does anyone have any tips, resources or guides for a poor nubscrub? but I did make a grappling hook out of gems...however the gently caress that would work

Pound_Coin posted:Bought this over a year ago, never got into it, saw the 1.2 update drop, made a medium world and have a fair bit of copper and lead and whatever replaces gold & silver. First off you need to build yourself a "housing complex" to hold your stuff and your NPCs. I attach mine as it's pretty minimalist. I recently redid it but you can make it pretty much entirely out of wood or stone. I built from the left to the right adding more rooms as I attracted more NPCs. I originally had it up on "stilts" of about 8-10 blocks to help with Blood Moons and built the lava bunker on top afterwards to help with the more serious invasions. You could put yours up high where you can only access it via grappling hook. You will probably want to find a decent naturally formed cave that appears to go deep and then build a dedicated tunnel to it so you have a safe destination at night. This tunnel may end up being the basis for your map-spanning skybridge across the world. Your first "goal" should be to get into the corruption/crimson (depending on which you have) and break two of the shadow orbs/crimson hearts you find in the underground. Do not break 3 (yet) as it summons a boss monster you probably can't handle. To do this you will need to have bombs (buyable from an NPC, good idea to craft them into sticky bombs). After the first you will get the chance that a meteor comes and the second brings the chance of a second meteor later on. Once a meteor lands (there will be a message) you can use bombs to quickly "mine" the ore which attracts annoying floating monsters that go through barriers when meteorite is together in a significant quantity. With the meteor bars you should make meteor armor and a space gun. Wearing the armor gives infinite space gun ammo and this will probably be sufficient for you to take on everything shy of the last boss of normal mode (the Wall of Flesh). Fight the Dungeon guardian as well as the Eye of Cthulhu and eventually break the third Shadow Orb/heart to get that boss too. From the latter you will get the materials to make the demonite/crimtane pick which lets you mine hellstone at the bottom of the map. From there you mine hellstone (carefully) to get a full armor set and tools, then prepare to fight the Wall of Flesh and enter hardmode. For the last, I found the minishark with meteor shot with a long running arena was the best bet. To prepare it relatively easily (but laboriously) I suggest going to the ocean on either side of the map and tunneling under it on the far map edge (keeping the sand seal intact) and then making a shaft down to hell from there. Once the shaft is dug (and the far side of the map edge screen walled off down in hell) let the ocean drain which will dump water over a lot of lava and start your arena for you. As a plus you get to access the Ocean chests easily and probably find equipment that lets you dive into the other ocean on the other side of the map.

Meteor armor and a space gun is easily enough to beat the Wall of Flesh. I beat it last night with 390/400 health left on my first ever attempt to even fight it. I used Lava Waders (and Rocket Boots + Sandstorm in a Balloon for mobility) rather than build a bridge, and downed ironskin and regeneration potions right before starting the fight. I didn't even reach the hell buildings before I killed it, and only used one healing potion when it tongued me a few seconds before it died. Also, Pound_coin, for the earlier bosses I usually fight the Brain of Cthulhu (Crimson) or the Eater of Worlds (Corruption) first. They drop the materials for the next tier of pickaxe, which will allow you to mine hellstone, obsidian, and ebonstone/crimstone. 20 obsidian will craft into an Obsidian Skull, an accessory which negates the damage from touching hellstone bricks, hellstone, and meteorite ore, which makes collecting hellstone & meteorite ore much easier. You may want to summon, fight, and kill the Eye first, just to make sure that it doesn't randomly spawn while fighting the Brain or Eater. The Eye has something like a 1/3 chance of spawning each night if you have more than 200 health and haven't beaten it before in that world. Piercing ranged weapons such as shuriken or the Starfury's star are effective against all of the early bosses. You'll also want a strong knockback weapon for the Brain's second phase; piercing melee-range weapons like spears or Vilethorn (a magic weapon) work great against the Eater.

Hahaha, trying to get copies of the mechanichal boss trophies, I decided fighting them one at a time wasn't going to be fast enough. So I summoned all 3 at once. Spectral Armour, Nimbus Staff and Golden shower let me stand still and kill them all, twice over, summoning the Destroyer again halfway through each set. The Numbers man, the Numbers. The kicker was The second Prime and the fourth Destroyer dropped the trophies, so Now I just need to get the Twins trophies again.

Progress report! Finally finished hollowing out the land, then realized I hadn't made the blade wide enough to fit a minimum-width NPC room on each side, so I had to widen the whole thing. From here, it looks like I'm about 1000 tin away from finishing the edge of the blade, maybe closer to 800. Since I'm now rocking Crimson equipment and have killed the Queen Bee, I may pop over to a small world and get my strip-mining on. My personal quarters are at the very bottom, with every workbench-type item I've currently got available in the area above. From there, lots of empty space, then another, more casual work area, the World Spawn Hall, and then the NPCs. I'll likely need to put more NPC housing in a bit farther down, as 10 isn't going to cut it for long. girl dick energy fucked around with this message at 23:40 on Oct 18, 2013 |

I suggested Minishark because I know it'll do the job without too much fuss- the Wall eyes have pretty terrible defense. If you wall off the side of Hell as I mentioned, meteor shot will bounce off it back at the Wall for the first part of the fight. I would also amend my last post to say that while waiting for the meteors to fall you will probably experience a Goblin invasion which is easily fought off with grenades since you probably won't be in a position to harvest lava for a bunker yet. The harpoon you may get from the Goblins is really quite excellent in its own right as a fast short-range automatic weapon. It serves pretty well until you get your Space Gun, which by the by does more damage with the Meteor Armor as well.

I'd recommend exploring the underground Jungle and killing some Queen Bees. They drop cool stuff like the bee gun, honeycomb, clothes, and the ever useful BEENADES. Seriously, Beenades. Really try to find water walking boots and a lava charm. The Lava Waders are probably one of the most useful accessories for traversing anywhere that has water or lava. Also get yourself spectre boots. To prepare yourself for hardmode, build a place for the Truffle guy to move in so you can buy that spear from him as soon as he gets there. It's useful. The Night's Edge (muramasa, fiery sword, blade of grass, and light's bane at a demon/crimson altar) is also good until you fight bosses in hardmode.
