jesus christ, that's loving ridiculous, did you make YSIII like 200 feet to center? also cross-posting from the N/V, Mr. Bruiser found this BrooklynBruiser posted:Couple of fun little MLB thought experiments: so I had the idea that someone should run that through OOTP, which Harlock did Harlock posted:The 'This Took Too Long And Now I Must Follow Through' Simulation of Home Grown teams in OOTP14. Injuries are off, and the AI is not allowed to make any call-ups/send downs. Suspensions are still on, however. It's pretty interesting to look through, but in trying (and failing) to set it up, I remembered that I also wanted to run that expansion draft we did a few months ago through OOTP. I'm trying to set up the draft exactly the same as in the thread, but I can only seem to put more guys on the protected list. Anyone know how to take a guy off?

My favorite change is that your bullpen can be nuanced a lot more rather than just throwing guys into buckets (you can setup lefty/righty specialists, for example) and you can setup a priority list for pinch hitters/pinch runners. I've also noticed it successfully and logically handling defensive replacements more than I remember in the past but that might just be me.

Manager options gives you this: Which might be what you're looking for? The downside is that you're giving those powers to your manager and not someone else in the organization (as you are the GM) so they might make terrible decisions. I actually play the opposite way and let the AI handle lineups and stuff while I only do the GM stuff. Sometimes I have to step in an mandate that some guys are used a certain way but mostly I stay hands off.

To anyone who wants to join an online OOTP 14 league, we got spots! This league has been going on since 2010 and we are currently in our 13th season! It doesn't take much effort on your part, just own OOTP14 and do an export 3 times a week. Usually Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday. Put as much or as little effort in as you like! Inquire within: http://simcentral.net/forums/forumdisplay.php/245-SimCentral-MLB If you have any questions about the league, IcePhoenix, Tadashi, and I are all members in it. There may be more SA regulars, but the names escape me.

Inquire within: I'm actually leaving the league but the Orioles have been a pretty good team for several seasons now, has a farm system with good depth and they will have lots of money to spend on free agency (but don't spend it all). It's a very good league with some MLB players still hanging around and very easy to get into and keep up with. tadashi fucked around with this message at 14:06 on Oct 22, 2013 |

Harlock posted:Nobody will really attack you with wild trade offers for your best players, we all try to be fair. If you ever need help with something there's plenty of us to bounce ideas off of and stuff. Personally, I never touch any of the manager sliders like for close/late situations stuff like that. That's going too deep. I just set my rotations and lineups really. The big thing is learning FA markets and junk like that - which can get pretty crazy. Yeah, I agree with this. I tried messing with the sliders, it only worked poorly. I ended up setting them back to default and found myself having more success. I am not sure if the computer managers can't handle it right or what. I do Set individual player strategies though, such as Never Lift for Pinch Hitter and if I want a player to steal more often.

That's going too deep. I just set my rotations and lineups really. The big thing is learning FA markets and junk like that - which can get pretty crazy. Just to tack onto what Harlock posted, the biggest mistake new owners make is not shopping players in the Trade Block thread for their league. Even if you get interest on someone who's not posted, put them up there before you take an offer. Some managers will come in with slightly low-balled offers and the expectation is for you to meet them somewhere in the middle. Since SCMLB is going into the off-season, now is the time to post anybody you'd consider trading and get a feel for what people want and what they're willing to pay. The highest priorities will be talented players under team control. If you want to dump a really bad contract, it will usually cost you a little something but it might be worth it. For SCMLB, you want to build a team around players with some 8's in their main talents (contact, eye, avoid K's, power) because that's the level of players the competitive teams have. In general, starting pitchers need at least a 6 in movement or they'll usually get hit pretty hard. If you know your stats, you can create custom reports that have things like FIP for pitchers or .wOBA for hitters (maybe you have already). If a guy looks like he has good stats for a real life MLB player, his stats are probably good for SCMLB. It's not as cut-throat as some other online leagues and it's not that difficult to keep up with since you just need to have your exports in 3 times a week during the regular season.
